my favorite part of ant keeping is to observe what an ant is doing. Like foraging looking after brood or tending the queen. and most ant species behave soo different, I love these little critters.

Beautifull colony, and beautifull growth! Best thing about antkeeping? Spectating overtime how a colony is progressing which is coming from a different climate.. Feels very rewarding.

the most beutiful thing about antkeeping is to raise a queen from just her and a testube! I did it with a lasius niger queen that now has over 1000 workers! Just the thing from seeing a queen lay her first eggs to have over 1000 workers is truly amazing!

I'm really excited for you! I have 2 colonies of this species, as they are my favorite. After their first year these gals really take off. My oldest colony is about 18 months and has about 400 workers now. They are a really interesting species! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Great looking setup, they seem to be well at home in it, 👍👍👍 Top tip, if you need to close off part of a nest, connect a strong cotton thread to the cotton bung, and feed it out of the end of the nest. Then in the future if you need to give them more space, just pull the cotton into the next hole! No need for unscrewing.... 😉

I love carpenter ants!, they are so big and cute!, and I love the majors! The thing I love about antkeeping the most is just relaxing and watching the little critters do their thing, I also love feeding them and watch them drag fly pieces into the nest (I feed my ants swatted flies most of the time)

I just caught a Formica Podzolica queen during her nuptial flight. I've never had one before, the closest to it being a Camponotus ant. However I am VERY excited as I have heard that they are marvelous ants. Any care tips? She is currently in a testtube setup. And, Should I give here some pupae from a neighboring colony to boost her? Edit: The neighboring colony is also Formica Podzolica, most likely the neighboring colony. They are under a rock, so I can just lift it and grab some pupae.
