Have you ever listened to a 12:1 roller Chevy 350 on high octane fuel, they are extremely noisy. Its to the point that you wouldn't want to drive it, only for a few seconds at a time on the track. This coyote being 12:1, able to run on pump gas, rev to 7500, make 400 hp on 5 liters and tolerable to drive all day is just amazing to me.

Hey I have all these issues + more on my 2020 5.0 F150, I put some videos on KZbin showing some of the sounds. Over-all pretty disappointed, I got mine brand new and these noises started almost immediately. I brought mine in; 1 and 7 they said they couldn't reproduce, 2/3/4 they said was normal behavior based on the TSB, 5/6 I don't think I even brought up because I had low confidence they could be able to handle such a list. I've decided to just not bring it into service anymore because I don't want the records on Carfax when I decide to offload it. 1. Flutter noise on deceleration 2. Diesel-like noise at idle 3. Engine tick 4. Constant whining under the hood 5. High pitch squeal when accelerating (Like a Mack truck) 6. Grinding when switching low gears, like 2/3 to 4/5th 7. Knocking/whooshing noise when breaking, exacerbated by wet roads?

I had the same problem. Ford did not know what it was, so I fixed it myself. I ended up eventually replacing all 4 VCT solenoids, 2 on each side. After cold starting the engine let it sit till the RPM’s go down to 1,000 then drive it to allow oil to get to the cam phasers. You can also try pushing the traction control button twice fast to put it in advance trac sport mode.

Never have. The dealer told me to bring it in for the first oil change between 1,500 & 2,000 miles. & I change it every 2,500-3,000 miles. I have never used any oil. I also did a road trip when it was new to break it in to seat the piston rings. Never got on the throttle hard till it had 1,000 miles on it. If you do a lot of stop & go traffic driving change the oil every 3,000 miles. The only thing I have had my pickup in for was a recall on the engine block heater & oil changes. I had a 2018 5.0 f150 and had to get rid of it. I went to the shop multiple times for unnecessary warranty work. Ambient temperature reading was off. It wouldn't refresh until you hit speeds of like 50mph or over. My friends would laugh when they saw a reading of 50 when it was like 80 outside. Replaced that twice. I had the deceleration rattle, tick, and engine pinging when under load at low rpm and at a higher gear. I used higher octane and helped a little but still able to be heard. Brought to dealership 2x for deceleration rattle and they said it was normal. Lol. Fords a joke. Ended up getting a Nissan Titan. My life has been headache free. The 5.4 3v is your buddy’s 04. The tick in that is a cam phaser issue. The 5.0, it’s not the same reason for the sound. One of the reasons some are saying the 5.0s have the tick are because of the high pressure fuel system for the dual fuel injection system. Idk how true it is. However, I wouldn’t bat an eye on the tick in with the 5.0. Ive owned mine since new and it’s been flawless. Timing chain rattle is very bad in the long run. The ticking is most likely piston slap, which will get worse and causes wear to the pistons and cylinder bore if unaddressed.
@jonathanhaney56732 жыл бұрын
@@karlschauff7989 how do you address it?
@karlschauff79892 жыл бұрын
@@jonathanhaney5673 Piston slap? A new short-block or pay a company that specializes in 5.0 Coyotes to sleeve it. The 3rd gen blocks don't have steel liners like the 1st and 2nd gen blocks. Ford used a metal arc spraying method that deposits a super thin layer of metal onto the aluminum bores but a lot of engines coming off the assembly line have very excessive piston-cylinder bore clearances that lead to loud tapping and knocking noises. The timing chain issue is something totally different. Ford has revised and revised cam phasers and timing chains on their newer engines for years and I don't think they'll ever eliminate all the ways the timing chains develop rattles. They keep trying to bandaid it with software updates but it just seems to eliminate one situation where they would rattle but create new situations where the phasers would rattle. They tried making the oil passages bigger in the 3.5 EB that feed the phasers but that hasn't eliminated it entirely. Not sure what is going on with Ford that's caused the problem to persist for so many years across different engines. It's really frustrating tbh.
