Hello, want to get back into bowling league. Use to be around 180 average 15 mph speed. It has been 8 years. Looking for a very versatile ball for for most conditions. I like to start more up the middle/right and work my way left as the lanes change. Looking into the Phase 2, Phase 3, Zen Master, Zen soul, Reality, polaris (love the looks), parallax, Jakal Flash. Any insight or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I could never get my zen to move consistently off the pattern. But I put 2000 on it and bowled with it until it lane shined again. I shot 300 after that.

When I bowled in that house in January the house shot was flooded, I had a 2000 grit that wouldn't move and the PSO thought I was coming into his shop because I couldn't get the ball to move, when I just needed him to open my thumb more. Lol

Ok now I'm definitely confused. After the Brunswick Quantum Helices came out, any more balls with different coverstocks on different areas of the surface were banned, so how could a hybrid ball have some areas of its surface solid and other areas pearl, rather than an even blend throughout?

The pattern at Sunset Station is actually around 38 feet. shorter than most THS's.

I love Darren's throws they're so perfect, even though I'm an unconventional bowler hid approach is my favorite. My arsenal is a Phaze 2, Hyroad Pearl and an old school Rapid Fire Pearl. Any advice for someone who throws with no thumb to get more speed and since I have a natural hook can I get better or do you recommend using thr thumb?

Well I'm a two handed bowler but also don't use my thumb what helps me is making my arms loose and using momentum sliding on the last step and starting the ball low not high up to my chest

I hope you are right about how Hybrids are made. I always thought it was a blend of pearl and solid throughout the coverstock. If it is just in certain areas of the ball, this is groundbreaking news. 💯

Don't get too discouraged if you aren't rolling it as well as you used to at first. Go practice once or twice a week and you'll be back to form in no time. I know this from experience as I just got back into bowling myself a month or so ago and I just now started hitting my average from before. My first game back after almost two years was an 87, which was about 110 below my average lol.

I'm assuming whenever you say a ball is "MORE SMOOTH" than some other ball you're saying the hook is more controllable and the ball doesn't hook as crazy? I'm thinking if I said the Tropical Surge is more smooth than the Axiom Pearl that would be a correct statement? Just making sure I don't keep assuming all to realize I've been wrong for years and years the way I was when it came to surfacing bowling balls. I always assumed sanding a ball to a lower grit meant the ball would hook in a more aggressive shape down lane than if a ball was surfaced with a 3000 or 4000 grit pad. Found out after YEARS that it was completely opposite of what I assumed all those years. 😆

Smooth is the opposite of angular. Urethane balls tend to have vey smooth reactions; they never jump or make a hockey stick or fish hook shape.

The Zen is a pearl. But in my opinion it rolls like a solid. Its even smoother then a Zen Soul for me. And based on what I’ve seen from other people.

My Hammer 3D Offset is a Pearl Hybrid...but it's only one color. That doesn't connect with your description with the three-color hybrid - 2 to 1, or 1 to 2 - so how does that work?

Fairly positive that one is just a pearl. But it’s a single color, it’s probably a pour of pearl and solid, just the same color.

No, cover and core are significantly different. S70 hybrid is way earlier on Zen soul than rs3 hybrid on P3. R3S hybrid on phaze 3 is much cleaner and WAY quicker off friction. Velicity Core also revs up way later and faster on the phaze 3. You get about the same amount of boards left to right but that doesn't really matter . Where and when the ball hooks front to back is much more important. The soul is More comparable to a phaze 2 for sure. Zen is closer to phaze 3 even though ones a pearl and ones a hybrid. Why he mentioned those designators not being important. Only ball like the OG Zen is the OG phaze.(not the r2s version) P3 is kinda in its own class since wolverine and Spectre aren't around. R.I.P. R3S is soooooo good. Hopefully we get another R3S ball soon. 🙏
