I have an ANbernic Arc S , the linux one. And the system no longer boots, a couple months into owning it it would just boot forever. I contacted Anbernic about it and they suggested unhooking the battery for a while to like "reset it". Didn't solve the problem, and they have no other ideas. That was last fall, and I never got it working again. So I just don't want another Anbernic. It's unfortunate because it ran Saturn games well enough (atleast the 2D and easier 3D games) and had all the keys mapped for me correctly. It was one of the smoother user experiences. That's like the fifth emulator handheld I've tried over the last few years. And they all end poorly, except the Miyoo Mini. So I've just given up on the whole market. Next handheld I'm gonna buy is a Steamdeck, and I won't bother with anything arm anymore. For the curious, the handhelds I had were the: - GKD CLassic Plus (stopped booting completely) - Retroid Pocket 2 (ran really poorly, UI was terrible. I just didn't enjoy using it) - Anbernic Arc S (boot loop, but was nice to use sometimes). - Miyoo Mini (kinda perfect, but limited and made a little too uncomfortable. Despite liking it so much I don't use it because I don't want to play many games with the cramped grip). - Retroid Pocket 2S (works great, just a clunky UI. I actually still use this a bit). I really just want a very portable x86 computer that can handle emulators and light indie games. But the Steamdeck is the next best thing.

I've never experienced that but I can imagine that being incredibly annoying especially with their customer service not being helpful. The Steam deck is an amazing choice tho since it can emulate every retro console and play newer PC games, can't really go wrong with getting one!

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It might be worth buying a new micro-sd card for the ARC and make a fresh installation of the OS? The cards most of these devices come with are not reliable from what I've heard.

Yes, I bought it without the SD card so I didn’t have any pre installed games but if you buy it with an SD card included you’ll get games with it

I always wanted an ARC with this square display, to be fair they did it here but it's overpowered for gameboy/gamegear and that's what I mostly play. Hope you enjoy it.

5:01 I just wanna clarify, here you say the 3DS and Gamecube/Wii games you tried played well. But in the footage before, Mario 3D land was hitching every few seconds. Did they start running better after that or is that just decent for this handheld price bracket?

It started running better after that, in the beginning it had to build shaders since it was the first time the device had ever played that game but once you get through a level or two it starts running well with very minimal hiccups.

3DS is going to have shader compilation stutters on most devices.
