The absolute quality that the Stones deliver is unbelievable. That little Billy Preston fill after "needle in her arm". It's all those small things that make the story come alive.

The genius of the Stone's music is they dive right into the darkest of life situations and fearlessly put it to a funky beat, some super cool guitar riffs, while Mick Jagger confidently assumes the roll of the Pied Piper, putting his audience in a trance as they allow this incredible music to touch their souls..... It's a formula they've been using for more than 60 years‼️

Thank you. Bought this as a fresh release as one of my "First 25" way back when I first started a record collection so it has sentimental value for me as well. I love how they came off a great run of records with this little coda to that period. Typical Stones rockers like Star Star and Heartbreaker mixed with introspective songs like Coming Down Again and Winter. The Stones at the top of their game. Thanks again.

I concur with the 'S'. I also love where the guitar solos briefly, that adds more emotional song connection for me. It's just the right notes/tones at those precise moments necessary. Of course the Stones have been my #2 band for most of life anyway. Man I tell u, thank goodness they have such a huge catalog. The discovery period for the Stones will take a long while u learn to appreciate & love them even more. Say hi to Andy, hugs ❣️ Hope he's getting things sorted out. The Mick Taylor period (1969-1974) was definitely the Rolling Stones best.
@fuchsiaswing8545Ай бұрын
Is it, though? As a recording band, Beggars Banquet was still in the Brian era, and Let It Bleed was more or less complete before Taylor’s membership. Those two albums are leaps and bounds better than Goats Head Soup and It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll. What he did do was add dynamism to their live shows and enhance their prowess as a touring act.
@SteveMenardDesignDXMАй бұрын
@@fuchsiaswing8545 Valid points, but I still think that Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main Street, Goat's Head Soup, and It's Only Rock'n Roll are their strongest string of consecutive albums. Let It Bleed is in their top three overall, though I'm not quite as enamoured with Beggars' Banquet. I admit that ranking periods or albums is very subjective, and I do tend to lean towards the Mick Taylor period because I really like "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'", "Time Waits For No One", "Heartbreaker", and It's Only Rock'n Roll".

Next Stones: "Honky Tonk Women". Iconic non-album single from the Let It Bleed sessions. Beats out "Don't Fear The Reaper" for use of cowbell by a mile. Over the years, the song has become a staple of their live shows. Original single version can be found on several greatest hits collections, the first one being Through The Past Darkly and later on the double-LP release Hot Rocks. There's an alternate "countryfied" version called "Country Honk" that was included on Let It Bleed, but with different lyrics and musical approach. "Honky Tonk Women" was also one of the first tracks to feature their new lead/slide guitarist Mick Taylor.

"You Can't Always Get What You Want" is probably my favorite 'Stones song, but this song is from my favorite 'Stones album (Goats Head Soup) and I don't think it's necessarily one of their more popular records. This is my favorite era for the 'Stones. Mick Taylor is the best guitar player they ever had (in my opinion). Keith is more famous and he's great, too, but Mick Taylor rocked. "Dead Flowers" is one of my favorites as well, I agree with you, Alex, and that's the same era.

From the first time I heard it this was The Rolling Stones song for me Being a African American 12yr old living in the inner city when this came out I felt like the Stones were telling our story to their fans And I felt they were on our side Because we we’re trying to tell the country our Civil rights were being violated by cops since the end of Reconstruction But as the Comedian Richard Pryor said back then “ you tell white folks the Cops are beating our @&$ and they go Oh those beatings those people were resisting arrest” In other words we were never believed that police in every major city around the country Police brutality was a constant thing they got away with because no one would take our words over theirs And crazy enough I had almost had forgotten about the song and then the George Floyd Murder happened and a local college radio station I listened to put it on the day after the George Floyd video went viral and I was elated and heartbroken at the same time Because what was true back then as a 12yr old was still true all those years later!!!

Insight on this tune is spot on! Not warm and fuzzy at all! Always thought it was a great, underrated track! (Possibly due to that heavy subject matter) I’ll give you another great, quirky, Stones track hiding in the bushes: “Dear Doctor” . Fun, quirky romp with a dark side as well. Think about what was popular in 68 at the time of its release…it sure wasn’t pure country honk, which is another reason I’ve loved it since 68!! The Stones were fearless!
