The first time I have seen or heard anyone produce anything pleasant or melodic to listen to and creative on the Subharmonicon. This has renewed my interest in this synth

Haha thanks! I know it can be a crazy weird synth, I feel like really pleasant melodic sounds are like tiny knob turns away from the unpleasant sounds. Thanks for watching!

Yeah you have to interact with the instrument yourself. Your personality will come out of the machine. I was not interested in the subharmonicon at all until I got to play with it.

great video and really like that first patch you did, lovely sound. I just got a 3 set moog sound studio so really looking forward to learning this and getting some jams going with it. I'm being pulled towards semi modular so don't mind the challenge. I just tamed the Solar 42, my first synth, people said I'm crazy getting that as a first synth.

The Subharmonicon is one of the most focused and well-thought-out synthesis _instruments_ I've ever seen. Most synthesizers are basically an assortment of the same basic building blocks that we settled on in the 1970s - which isn't really a complaint, I built my own modular synth by doing just that - but the Subharmonicon is really doing its own, very tightly focused thing, and it does it beautifully. I had a chance to play with one of these briefly - it was for some unfathomable reason for sale in my local Guitar Center - and it was a ton of fun. Someday I'll be able to afford one, perhaps. Thanks for doing this look at it!

I have the Moog DFAM, Mother32, and Subharmonicon, and the Subh is the one I use the most. If it were between any of those three, I would definitely choose that one. Glad you had the patience and dedication to stick with it and share your experience. Because of its unique sequencer, it's a great "brain" for other modules you'll pick up!

Oh boy, I'd love one of these. Got into modular right about the time this was first released and focused on building a rack with lots of individual modules rather than going down the semi-modular route. But every time I see someone demo a SH they make amazing sounds. Patch #1 here is especially beautiful! Great work.

The Subharmonicon is one of my favs too. I have all the Moog semi-modular and it definitely stands out from the rest of them. At times it can can feel a bit hard to tame but then just a couple of knob tweaks and it's an instant inspiration machine. Another great vid BTW. Keep it up!

I ordered mine before they even announced it --told my Sweetwater guy that once it was announced to process my payment ;-) I like it a lot. I think it would actually be pretty good for a newbie because the controls are pretty simple, and it's got music theory baked in. You don't need to understand the harmonic series or polyrhythms to make music using them.
@amberelmmusic
@amberelmmusic 10 ай бұрын
That’s all true. I think the hardest part is being patient with it. It can sound terrible, and then like a tiny little knob turn has it making the most beautiful sounds.

Patch #1 was very nice and not so Subharm-ish. I love the synth too, but its sound is almost too recognizable sometimes (not really a bad thing). Get that patch section connected for movement. Not sure if you're into modular (yet lol), but if you are it will make the Subharm come to life bigtime. Patching within itself I found not too exciting but with a handful of external modules it makes this synth even more incredible.

I have two m32's since their release, then I grabbed the dfam, then the sub, the sub without a doubt was the weirdest out of the set, i just didn't get alot of really cool stuff from it, especially the poly rhythm area, it would often seem like an unstable clock source was driving the sequence, i even contacted moog to double check it wasn't broken. I kept it and it's in the rack, but I just dont know how to get it to sound very appealing musically. I just got spectravox too, which is another kind of different type of device, but even spectravox is useful and easier to put to use. The sub's subhamonics are handy, but the poly rhythm can get really messy quick, especially if you use more than 2 rhythm dials. Now, i feel like playing with it but in my opinion the subharmonicon is definitely a strange instrument.

I was really enjoying the first 2 and a half minutes... and then you had to start whining about subscribers. I hate this YT "trend" - it reminds me of a server in a restaurant 'reminding' you to tip every time they come to the table. That server is getting a 1 penny tip & the video is getting an automatic thumbs down from me. The stupid subscribe/bell graphic makes me wish I could give it another thumbs down. Since the video might still be interesting, I'll give you another chance instead of just blocking the channel like I usually do, but please stop this bullshit. If someone wants to subscribe, they will. They don't need to be "reminded" to do it.
