English author Douglas Adams once wrote, "Mark Knopfler has an extraordinary ability to make a Schecter Custom Stratocaster hoot and sing like angels on a Saturday night, exhausted from being good all week and needing a stiff drink". I heard that a long time ago and it always stuck with me.

This concert is from 1983, that's 41 years ago! What happened to music between then and now? I can't answer that question, but I know without a doubt that we will not see such musicianship and talent as this for a very long time to come. Love your channel Dreeezy - keep on diggin' real music - there's a ton of it out there.

I'd actually say that this live version is better than the studio original which seems slower, and almost lifeless by comparison.

Allthough I generally agree with you... There's still some amazing talented people out in the world making music now. Check out Billy Strings doing Away From the Mire at Lollapalooza 2022... Almost reached Alchemy Live levels imo :D

That is how a great band does it, all that hard work is done, the writing, rehearsing, the fighting and then it's time to perform and shine .

When you think that this comes at the end of two hours of playing and singing that includes the awesome performance of Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, Private investigations, Tunnel of Love and others, and these guys are just absolutely loving what they’re doing, giving it their all. Every one of them playing their hearts out and fitting in so perfectly together. It’s a very rare and special thing to see and hear, such talented musicians, none of them hogging the limelight, giving each other room to express themselves and producing such a seamless performance. Spectacular!

Great reaction, great taste you have! I bought this album in 1984, and have bought it on every medium since - must have listened to it 10.000 times and it never gets old. Mark Knopfler doesn’t play guitar, he plays directly on my spine. Incredible and so great to see young people today appreciate and enjoy this too.

Always enjoy your reactions. Tunnel of Love from Wembley 1985 is one I think you'd enjoy. It's recalling his own youth visiting a fairground called The Spanish City. For many years the song opened the place every night and today the lyrics are in the paving around it.

No other word but MASTERPIECE. The only other song that I can compare to this is Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond with regards to the complexity, the amount of layers with the various emotions throughout the piece taking you on a rollercoaster ride. No matter how many times I hear this song I'm still blown away each and every time...simply amazing.

You've got to remember Mr Knopfler wrote the words, music, arranged it, sang and played his guitar as only he can. This masterpiece is solely the work of ONE man, the genius that is Mark Knopfler. It amazes me how he did it. This will never be beaten, and we will never see the like of it again ❤ Well done ❤

Well, you have certainly seen their best performances, and I've enjoyed your insightful reactions. 😃If you are looking for something else to check out by them, perhaps a concert/live performance of "Lady Writer"? It's not quite the masterpiece that this is, or 'Sultans' was, but, it's a fun upbeat performance, and as usual there's some striking guitar playing by Mark.

Hey there, the drummer in this concert is Terry Williams who replaced Pick Withers, John Illsley on Bass, Hal Lindes on rhythm guitar, Alan Clark on piano and Tommy Mandel on keyboards. I think you'll really love the performances of Brothers In Arms and Private Investigations from DIRE STRAITS- Live "On The Night" 1992. They are my favorites. Anyway Cheers All the best from Australia 👍🎸🎸🎸

Tunnel Of Love is another musical transition journey. However, let Private Investigation surprise you, something completely different with fantastic guitar and effects: amazing, was UK no.2 and top ten throughout Central Europe, although quite exceptional and demanding. Keep having fun with all kinds of good music!!! P.S. If you want a very RELAXED guitar song from the beginning of the DS, then choose Down To The Waterline; DS started out as a pure guitar band on their first two albums.

Alongside all of the music, the lyrics describe the growth, and then decline of industrialized America. While Mark is the epitome of laid back cool onstage, John Ilsley on the bass [ the only other constant feature from the original four piece ] has his own stage presence, because he just can't stop dancing and bouncing around. Truly wonderful. The version of 'Sultans....' from this album /video is worth checking, as is 'Tunnel of Love'.

I was a teen when they were big. All I knew were the few MTV videos from the Brothers in Arms album. I KY the last year have I rediscovered not only Dire Straights, but Mark Knopfler. I let my initial opinions of my 15 year old self keep me away from this amazing use for nearly 40 years.

Dire Straits is kind of an acquired taste. You have to give it a few tries, paying attention to the lyrics. The music will then fill in the blanks with even more emotions. There are lots of songs to choose from, so don't stick with just the same one.
