My new favourite toy | Fw 190 A-5 | IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad/Kuban

So the new Focke Wulf 190. I guess from the viewers perspective you don't see that much difference to the A-3, but if you fly it u feel quite some differences. First of the aircraft is faster. Quite a bit and leaves even the mighty yak-1b in the dust.
Secondly you can feel that the Aircraft dimensions are slightly different as u have to trim now way more than before to keep a certain attitude. Another thing is that the elevator locks slightly more up at higher speeds which almost kills me in one moment in the video.
New as well is that you as a pilot now has to control the cowling flaps to optimize between drag and cooling. I guess that is the main reason for the speed advantage over the A-3

The main speed advantage is because the nose is longer. The shockwave fromt he nose into the wings hit at a thinner part of the wing now.

The nose was lenghtened because of the cooling, but the side effect was reduced drag.

Wow, looks like 777 did it again in terms of flight performance of certain aircraft. In this game, just like IL-2: 1946, it seems like planes such as the Fw 190's radial (and inline in 1946) engined models perform exactly like the descriptions of it in WW2 by their pilots and opponents, as well as restored ones flying to this day, unlike the performance of them in War Thunder, where they are literally flying bricks. Even though the 190 wasn't as aerodynamic as the 109 due to the bigger front cross section, it was still light and extremely nimble.

Really good flying. I've only recently got into this, and I'm wondering how you steer so smoothly...the controls are pretty sensitive and even when turned down are pretty jerky. And how do you never oversteer?

Also trim (pitch) setting set correct for speed you are at and your speed will impact how wobbly you are when aiming (which varies with plane) and yes lots of practice. Ideally you want to be flying @ speed where your plane best operates. (again varies with plane but normally around 350-600kms/hr usually for fighters). Planes get more stiffening of controls with speed (know your planes characteristics) amount and what controls again varies with the planes. Fw 190 for eg has poor rudder authority but good ailerons (roll rate) and decent pitch authority than a bf109 at speed, AND set you joystick axis curves correctly.

To my knowledge you have Moscow and Stalingrad maps as well.

You don't have to get all in order to join multiplayer servers. You could still join any server despite not owning that map. However, you won't able to play SP campaign of the maps you don't own.

Thank you for your replies, I am trying to decide if I should get more DCS content 1944 map or IL2 BOS/BOK. Leaning towards IL2.

I purchased 1944 + assets pack plus spitfire a few days ago($90 USD). But I bought it simply because I'd like to support ED, since I've been playing DCS for years. DCS is a great sim for modern stuff, but If you're going for WWII, IL-2s all the way 200%, at least for now. Everything is just so much better over there for WWII combat(player base, physics& dmg model, eye candy etc...) I'd suggest getting BoS over BoK If you're unsure and financially concerned. You'll be somewhat limited by planes you can fly in BoK since they haven't released everything yet. In BoS, you get to fly 109G2(The best 109 in IL2), stuka and He-111, and that's more than what I needed(Sorry only fly for the german :P). Plus, Easter is coming soon, so I bet there'll be sale for BoS.
