My New Flat Bottom, Alcantara E55 AMG Steering Wheel!

Mercedes-Benz didn't exactly go crazy with steering wheels in the older AMG cars. For the most part, they were off the shelf steering wheels from base models cars and they really don't belong any near a performance car. In this video I replace the steering wheel in my 2003 E55 AMG with a much nicer flat bottom, Alcantara wrapped, aluminum paddle shifter equipped steering wheel. This wheel looks absolutely perfect and is what Mercedes should have used back in the day.

You should get the E63 shifter as well, it has alcantara on the front that will match well with the alcantara on the steering wheel

I absolutely love the steering wheel....I don't think it looks tacky at all, it looks like it's really well made with nice materials. I agree, it was smart to NOT go with carbon on it. I think once you get the rest of the interior a bit of an update, it will look even better. Perhaps that's why some don't love it as much, because it's so upgraded compared to the rest of the interior which stock is a bit out of date. Some minor tweaks and it will match perfectly, and really bring everything together. Get the new head unit, can't go wrong with a big touchscreen, new shift knob, and some new trim pieces or something along those lines. Wood grain actually Is a nice change, but that silver around the shifter looks cheap.... For the record I love what you've done with the E55 so far, and it brings me closer and closer to actually getting one (or an E63 or another AMG in that range). Keep up the great work and more vids!

Noticed you asked about opinions. I love the wood grain a lot! But I'd say all the gray/silver pieces need to go black, not cf. Mainly at the shifter. Dope video though man.

Those wood trims would look superb wrapped in alcantara to match the wheel! Easy to do too. Much classier than fake carbon wrap. But I know what you mean about liking the wood trim in that shade. I have the same but darker in my old E46 BMW wagon. I swapped it all out for alu silver but then swapped it back! The subdued dark colours are much cooler.

Replace the shift knob - with fresh unmolested black leather. And brand new fresh black AMG floor mats and finally degrease the seats 💺 so they don’t look so shiny. Bam 💥 - lookin’ like a million bucks! Or 90k - whichever is clever 😉

Looks great! I also think the wood grain is very beautiful and should be kept as it is! Not so much sold on that new center console you're talking about, because I think cup holders (at least visible ones) will take away the elegance and cleanliness out of the saloon. Perhaps you could get another small detail wrapped up in alcantara to tie together with the steering wheel, but be subtle.

Good afternoon. Can you please tell me where the wire from the steering column buttons is connected? I bought myself a steering wheel from mb w211 E55 AMG without an airbag. In my airbag, I probably cannot connect them? As I understand it, it should be connected from the right side to the button block.
