I wanna know what the story is behind the carbon fiber talon was? I was excited to see the video uploads of that but it disappeared off the channel!

Sorry for your luck. My thoughts are you put the amg part on the mitsubishi.... Adam trick to doing them to belt, put a razor knife through the middle of the belt. Crank the engine over then cut the outter 1/2 and release the tensioner. Slip the new belt on cut the back half off slip your belt on replace your tensioner. And fire it up. 2 1/2 hrs tops.

Yes sir. I have a eclipse build also. This is why they have their reputation. Stuff like this.. it’s always something.. start pricing transmissions.. they’re nearly impossible to find parts for now.. even if money is no issue which is ultimately why I sold mine.

Bad luck with the leak
@joelwachter7845Сағат бұрын
Well my first theory is What if the seals were leaking due to crankcase pressure? And if thats true, by replacing them did that increase the pressure? And if it did increase the pressure, would that cause the next weak seal to show up after all the other new seals, that seal properly now? Or did it lift the head or warp the head from the pressure if thats the cause? Also what would cause the crankcase pressure to increase?

Changing a timing belt that didn’t need to be replaced, amongst other things that did not need replacing. 🤦♂️

I’m wondering if because you put the oil pump back in time it created even more pressure than the graphite Head I guess was used to and that’s what caused the head gasket to blow. Strange failure, though.

Removing and installing the cam gears is my guess for the head gasket leak. Appeared to be a lot of torque in both directions on the head. Just a guess keep up the good vids.
@2hipsis132 сағат бұрын
It's likely the head gasket had been leaking before, but with all the other leaks it wasnt ad apparent. Fixing everything upped the oil pressure, and then that took the path of least resistance. Stinks that happened. :/

if it was recessed why not use a transfer punch to be more sure you punch in the center?

Welcome to the life of DSMs. They break for no reason then they’ll fix themselves. But you fixed a lot of seals so definitely more psi was held in and so long HG

I think that’s Princeton, IL. I used to cruise that town back in the 90s.
@legros7313 сағат бұрын
You got a blowby/crankcase pressure problem It was leaking by the cam gear with the new one the pressure inside the engine found the next weakest link the head gasket at the corner where a big oil return hole to the pan is located
@jacobscutzlas87124 сағат бұрын
my guess is the heat from the torch weakened the gasket seeing as how close the stud is to the leak

This is, as far as I remember, DSM life.. and why after crushing on them all through the 90's, why I never got one :(. I cant believe youre doing all this past 200k miles

Wait im confused, i always thought arent you like supposed to replace the gasket every time you pull the head? Because once it becomes tightened down with the head bolts as well as getting hot with the temp/fluids it basically becomes useless after that, meaning you *cant* reuse it a 2nd time. Im sure using the torch too right in that area wasnt any help either. I mean either way why didnt he consider replacing regardless, since the car has close to 250k miles to begin with?
@MowersNBlowersСағат бұрын
Yeah! He replaced everything else that didn’t need replacing

Great Video! I have a stock 1999 Chevy Silverado extended cab 5.3 step side. I have 316,000 miles on it and was thinking about making it a street truck to play around with. What could I expect to pay to do these upgrades to my truck. I do not plan to add boost or spray, I just want more power on motor.

DSM’s are so unreliable, I’ve owned 3. Also, double check the position of the oil pump sprocket. It could be 180degrees out of phase and still line up to the timing marks and you won’t know until it’s back together.

I'm somewhere between novice and dumb luck DIY'er, with my main flaw being diagnostic abilities. Love watching you go audible on diagnosis in sort of pachinko ball (process of elimination) fashion. Lets us half wits stay right there with you as you solve your situations. Very enjoyable, and (fingers crossed) maybe some things to be learned along the way. Great videos.

If the OE water pump wasn't available, defiantly save the old factory one. Gates product typically fail quickly, have done three Subaru 2.5l valve jobs in the last 6 months because gates timing belts failed in less than 60k miles, the factory belts can last to 200k miles but the interval is 105k. sad to think those customers would be better off if the other shops just reused the old belt.
@davidparise45177 сағат бұрын
It is simplly coincidence that you did what you did, and that leak started! Alex, if you didn't the other work, that gasket would have failed anyway at that exact moment! You would have not been that perplexed over it. The work you did was your usual brilliant work for your channel, and us to enjoy! So don't get so upset!
@mattdibble19507 сағат бұрын
Your pcv system might be clogged thats why your gaskets failed after replacing the cam and crank seals, and the balance was off before that you corrected could also have contributed, but I love the detail oriented job very good and informative.
