I recently made the newest Allie Olson Pattern, The Hive Pullover, after seeing so many amazing versions pop up online. I'm so glad I did. Not only did I make one for myself, but I also made one as a Christmas gift for my daughter. The collar can be a bit tricky, so I've done a complete tutorial on how I sewed that collar!
Collar tutorial starts at 16:27

I am totally in love with this pattern and, like you, I first saw it featured on Anita By Design’s site (a very upscale, dressy version of the Hive.) Now, I’m seeing your two versions and absolutely LOVE them both done up in different substrates of knits. I will be adjusting for my “larger than 2” difference cup size” so that the bottom hits me at a conservative spot, however, I believe it can be accomplished without too much thought. I can see a few of these in my future, both casual and a more dressy version! Thanks for bringing this pattern to us, Whitney! You look amazing in your version and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate the collar tutorial on this one, too! This is the type of content I really hope to see - not so much an entire sew-along, but short tutorials on a more challenging area, or a tips & tricks tutorial. It is always fun to learn new things! As you took a brief look back at your personal and business life in 2023, I thought, “Wow…how does she hold it all together?” And then I remembered…”…she sews!” ❤

I love to watch your tutorials, Whitney. And your voice are so much more pleasant when you are showing us what you do. When standing, presenting items, your voice sometimes is quite load. I do not want to be mean, but sometimes I skip your videos due to if I can handle it, or not. Just watch it yourself, I hope you can see what I say. Today I really wanted to be watching you, and because of the difference in tones here, I wanted to let you know. I do not want to be rude, so I hope you are not get upset over this. But maybe here are others thinking the same as me? Good luck on your new tasks❤️👏👏

How ironic, that’s exactly the style I’ve been looking for for my mom. I was debating between a Sinclair pattern with raglan sleeves or the LN Constellation, but I think I like this one. Neither of us like high hip stuff though, so I’ll have to lengthen it.

I, too, need to sew for my mental health. It’s interesting to me how working with fabric is so calming. If I’m really pressed for time, sometimes I just go rearrange fabric or refold it-anything to touch and feel the fabric.

Thank you sew much! I have sewn most of my life, but gave up on sewing for myself when I had kids Fast fashion was easier. . I continued to quilt, but how many blankets does one need? Now I want a "me made" wardrobe. Sewing for myself has become a challenge, which surprised me, because I sewed for myself in high school. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I am going to try out your process. So many patterns out there have little to bad instructions, and I'm hesitant to spend so much on a pattern. With your tutorial, I have the confidence to make a similar garment.

Did you serge finish over the end of the zipper at the bottom of the front collar? Wondering if that might ruin my serger.

I did serge over the bottom of the zipper, but I only did this because I was using nylon (or plastic) teeth and I didn't use the cutting blade.

What color of serger thread do you use on both of the sweatshirts. Are you matching or do you use same color. Both very nice top and very inspirational.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 10 ай бұрын
I used gray serger thread on both, but on the furtherest left needle, I use a color of thread that matches. This thread is the one that can become visible if there is a lot of strain on the seam.

I need your help. I made a shirt. The sleeves are too long, my hands disappear. How would you shorten the sleeves now that the shirt is made, or would you just leave it as is and wear the cuffs rolled up and unbuttoned?
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 10 ай бұрын
The best way would be to take off the cuffs and shorten from the bottom of the sleeve. Depending on how much you need to shorten the sleeve you might need to take out the placket and move that up as well, but that would only be necessary if you were shortening it over 1". You could also just wear it rolled.

I really like those sweatshirts! I have a roll of wonder tape that I can't get to unroll. Is that common? Is it still good? Does anyone have any tips for getting it started?
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 10 ай бұрын
It can definitely be like trying to start a new roll of tape when you start a new one. I would just keep picking at the cut end. It does dry out if not kept in a plastic bag, though, so it could be that you need a new roll as well.
