Happy for you! I'm getting laid off from Lockheed 2/6/2025, just turned 64 last Monday, have a couple engineering job prospects but spending at least next two months in my 2022 Arctic Fox 811 truck camper (very nice!) leaving Castle Rock, CO for New Mexico and see my oldest son/wife and my four grandkids outside Phx. Hit the NASCAR race, spring baseball. who knows Maybe I'll just retire. A little nervous about that! LOL

@@carljohnson9321 same here I was laid off from Texas Instruments in Colorado Springs decades ago lived in larkspur, I was older and after traveling the country and New Mexico and Arizona….I ended up in north central nevada. Here socialism is at a minimum and it’s really a much nicer state then Colorado no income taxes, very cheap property taxes, and yes there is employment opportunities. Try it most people think Idaho or montana but there abundant opportunities here in nevada.

@@johnmeyer5496 I'm doing the Billy the Kid tour of New Mexico. Bought the annual State Park pass for $225 and hitting Las Vegas, Ft Sumner, Silver City and Tombstone before heading up to Phx to see my oldest son and his family. NASCAR race in Phx and Cactus League Spring Baseball, former neighbors in Mesa. Head back to CO in April sometime and boondock all summer out near Buena Vista. See what materialized jobwise over next six months or just call it a career.

I ran over highway paint once and I filed a claim with my car insurance company. It was covered and I took it to a dealership nearby and they removed all the paint and detailed my vehicle just like new. I tried everything to remove that paint and it was too much work. I’m glad my insurance paid to have it taken care of.

I have removed rear seats in several of my pickups over the years, the increased storage space is one benefit, you can tailor it to almost anything, and the weight saving is tremendous. In mine I made a lower platform of plywood and it was a very large sleeping area with lots of secured storage underneath. Save the seats or sell them. 99% of the time nobody ever used the rear seats before I started doing this.

I am so excited to see this new chapter of your adventures unfold. As a camper shell sleeper for weeks at a time I have a few tips for ya if I may. - get a really good sleeping bag, you can go big and heavy with the space. - If possible leave your air mattress inflated. It will warm up as you drive during the day. Better than blowing it up in the cool night air. - The 3M tape on your tailgate skirt, use a heat gun or a blow dryer to speed up the curing process. - If you have a rear sliding window on both your truck and camper you can place a pool noodle, foam I have even used a box to plug the gap. When you drive around on cold days with the heater on some of the heat will disperse to your truck bed. - Get(or make) a paracord handle for the inside or you tailgate. Makes it easier to close from the inside. - Use bolt anchors that climbers use on the roof of your camper(use the bolts of your roof rails). You can hand lights or whatever from them and they are low profile. - And most importantly….you heard something scurrying around! Get used to it. Little critters love the warmth of your vehicle, it’s like a giant playground for them. I have had many visitors make a lot of noise at night as well as come into my bed and keep me up(mice, lizards). I now have a squirt bottle of peppermint extract (desert use) or eucalyptus extract (bear country) that I spray the wheels and undercarriage of my truck with before I go to sleep. Don’t worry it goes away while driving. Good luck with your future adventures!

Removing the back seats will add a lot of storage space. A simple platform and some tie downs can really keep things organized and secure. Installing a roof vent will dissipate the condensation a lot faster the the slide windows.

I thought you might appreciate a suggestion I used on my truck camping setup. Hi Catherine, when you have an electric outlet, try a small electric heater, you'll be surprised how warm it keeps your camper. You can also cut a pool noodle to fit on your step ladder to fit onto the back rail so it won't scratch your truck.

Catherine, Lacquer thinner and a rag would work great to remove the paint on the black wheel wells and other black plastic parts; as far as the paint spatters on your pickup, it would probably be safer to use car wash soap for that. The sooner you remove it the better.

As a former painter I would try soap and warm water soaking it first a few times over a 20 or 30 minute timeframe and use a dish scrubby. Not on the body. If no luck there I would try denatured alcohol. If no luck there (i would be hesitant to move to a solvent without extreme caution and testing of small incospicuous area)consult a car detailer about whatever they can offer. That sux , best wishes from a new Ford F150 owner with a new cap

if you don't have denatured alcohol lying around, maybe try fingernail polish remover? It's good to have a can of denatured alcohol around especially if you end up parking/camping under a pine tree and end up with sap all over the vehicle next morning.

✨Dear Cat, if you haven't put your Bedrug in yet have someone help you shine a light at night through every area of the truck bed so you can fill in all the holes. You can use spray foam, (It is possible for this to collect moisture and rust the metal eventually but it may not be much of an issue because you are typically in the southwest dryer climates.) This will help so much with dirt and mice. There are also holes under the bed rail, if you lay down and look or use your hands to find them, those cute lil mice come in there too. AND I always travel with mouse traps now, one night in a truck cap with mice is one to many!! 🐭I wouldn't get rid of the reflectix either you can just use it under the curtains before you go to bed, the cap turns into an inferno the second the Sierra sun hits the windows. You can store it under your mattress. So happy for you i love my truck home, the freedom is worth some discomfort. Have Fun!!

Love the channel, been watching from the beginning. In regards to heating your truck and bed area while camping, there is a company called Propex that makes a heater that can be mounted under the truck bed. In function it is similar to an RV furnace, and is thermostat controlled. The heat can be ducted to both the cab and the truck bed area. Safe travels.

You might want to research diesel heaters. I watch another truck camper living channel, Nikki Delventhal, and in her last episode she said that propane heaters create a wet heat (that's why teh condensation) but a diesel heater creates a dry heat. Take a look at her latest posting or research. (BTW, I enjoy your channel much more!)

What a beautiful truck it’s so awesome to have the freedom to not tow anything. I’ve used my truck as a camper often. I did something different than what you’re doing and that is, I push the back seats up against the back of the truck. And I put in a trifold memory foam mattress which fits perfectly. It’s the most comfortable bed ever in the cab of the truck. Then I store away all my stuff in the truck bed. I have Small electric heaters and I do have the Cupid butane heater which I don’t think is very safe inside the cab of the truck. But if I am ever way too cold I can start the truck. Good luck with everything I think it’s awesome lots of love-❤👍🙏

I honestly think making your bed in the comfort of the cab is a very sensible way to go ! If the occasion arises to where you need to start up and go you're well positioned to do so.. Have the option of starting the truck to use the heater and other accessories. I would truthfully like to see Catherine entertain Catherine Entertainer idea😮

Congratulations on the camper shell cat the truck is looking very nice. Try to get those back wheel wells rhino lined. It sure will save the underneath your truck from salt. I wish I would’ve did mine when I bought it brand new and underneath, especially the back bumper underneath and good luck on the next adventure ok 👌🏼🔥🤠🔥Camping Russ out

I did similar to you. I had a truck with a shell and a trailer. I decided pulling the trailer was not what I wanted to do to travel around the country. I set up my low shell as a camper. It worked well and I enjoyed it so much but I wanted to be able to sit up in bed. I got the taller shell from Bel-air. Loved traveling in that. I couldn’t stand all the way up. I want to be able to comfortably be inside when the weather is bad. I now have an old Roadtrek. Love the flexibility and the comfort. I don’t do this full time.

I work for a striping company and to get that paint off really easy. Mix ammonia and water 50/50. Spray it on the paint and it will soften up so yoy can wipe it off!!

Definitely need more warmth underneath. I'd build a bunk only tall enough to sit up with a foam mattress. Then you can have sliding storage underneath and a cabinet table to cook on in a pinch. Bucket toilet against the cab for sure. I got a pop up shower house I can heat 2 gallons of water in about 7 minutes and drop a Flextail shower pump in it. It's head is adjustable to save all the water for rinsing. Face and hair can always be washed separate with cold water but the hot body wash shower makes me sleep way better.

Great set up and done really comfy. So convenient 😌 I have a 2021 mountain graphic 650 lance camper to get out but bad neck is preventing me from doing so right now I really like my camper so much easier to use. But that's super nice and easy especially with a extra outdoor room I have a pop up screened room I get it 🙏🏻awesome adventures🌻

Paint: You can scrub it off the best you can. Cleaner wax for the door. Black spray paint for the liner. Hey, you can order rear wheel liners too.😊

As always really enjoyed this video Katherine. If I can give you one tip as of why you were probably cold is because you’re losing your heat out of or through that air mattress. As you know with backpacking all air mattresses have an R-value. When we buy cheap air mattresses just to be comfortable they generally don’t have much or any R-value which is the warmth rating of the mattress. I know you’re switching to a different one but if you keep using that one maybe consider putting something underneath or underneath you to not lose your heat. I hope this helps, Take care Mike

It never fails. Something always has to happen when you get a new ride. I love the new build!!! I’m a camper top nut!!! I’ve had four different trucks over the years with caps. I would have camper top windows and back truck windows blacked out with limo tent so wondering eyes can wonder somewhere else. Curtains will be nice too though. You will love the bed rug. They are a great product. A 270 awning would be nice as well. I’m excited to see what all mods you do to it. Congrats
