Thank you for the great content! Recently found your channel because I'm in the process of putting together my own home bio lab. Could you tell me the brand/model # of the backup battery you have for your ULT? I have seen many scientists loose years of work due to freezer issues so I am planning to keep mine as well taken care of as possible. Thanks again!

Hey Thought Emporium. Ever looked into Protoplast fusion? You can use pulsed electric currents to cause protoplasts (plant cell with cell wall removed) of dissimilar plant species and cause them to fuse (including the nucleus). Weird things happen with single chromosomes getting ejected somewhat randomly. You can make a tomaco (tobacco tomato) or a potato tomato or even weirder combinations. Might be right up your alley!

Be aware of the water level/quality in your autoclave, and be gentle cleaning. I have that exact model sitting in my attic right now because the heating element is unobtanium. Second note, be sure it is a grounded and fault protected outlet. When the element shorts, it shorts to the pressure vessel. Sucks too. It was a very quick clave to heat and cycle. Much zippier than the tuttenours.

@mattfleming86
@mattfleming86 2 жыл бұрын
@@user-rc4zk8ge1g Nothing special, just extremely difficult to acquire in my experience. It is a submersible element similar to an electric water heater element with two (pressure bearing) threaded bushings that go through the tank wall. The element makes a rapid 90* bend and loops under the rack. Someone with the manufacturing knowledge/tools could likely duplicate it, but I have not (yet) been able to source a drop in replacement.

Minor thing is that however fun and nice those fake warning signs are, they unfortunately desensitizes you to the real ones. For example the door into the workshop says "Please keep closed at all times". I didn't realize that until I had this thought and went back to check them all... Same with the laser printer "Laser radiation" warning. It just blends in with the rest.

I ended up stopping as school got harder, parts were difficult to find and ADHD fucked me but It is AMAZING to see an awesome channel to grow from the same project I pursued, and for the same reasons. I also love that you included the Conquest of Bread at 4:20 on your desk, nice to know that there are some science KZbinrs who may have similar political views. You are single handedly better equipped than my entire university was. I fear that that cryogenic storage you've got there is going to need to go inside a chest freezer to work properly. You literally have every single toy that I could possibly dream of. At university I bought a second hand laminar flow hood, a mini fridge which I filled with aquarium and grow lights and a bunch of glassware and a really really really bad old fashioned pressure cooker autoclave. I used it to isolate cultures of Aphanizomenon flos Aqua. Then I was forced to have to leave my home for another continent due to it all having been done in South Africa. You are literally 5 years ahead of where I started in 2010. I am jealous beyond imagining and watching this feels like my guts are being ripped out because everything I worked so hard to built was destroyed for no reason other than being born in the wrong place. I don't know if I'm going to be able to watch past 9:25, but I'll try because maybe one day I'll be able to get back to this level. I literally taught someone over the internet to drive to a lake to collect the algae for me and make a makeshift cryo-storage container and paid him to ship it back to me so I didn't have to pay for refrigerated shipping. It didn't exactly work out so I had to get hold of the algae a different way, but It also taught me a hell of a lot about the world. I just really wish I hadn't lost all of it. I'm literally looking at buying an ultrasonic bath and centrifuge out of sheer FOMO seeing this. And that lyophilizor is literally my dream piece of equipment. I had to get my roommate to help me carry the laminar up 3 flights of stairs. It probably weighed 150kg. I literally think I'm going to fucking cry right now. (for anyone who is reading this, it wasn't the unrest that destroyed all my stuff, but the cause of the unrest resulted in a similar outcome) I also had a reverse osmosis filter. Just make sure you shut it off because it wastes a lot of water to produce a small amount of clean water, and if you don't pressurise the tank correctly it'll decrease the fill-rate and waste even more. don't sell yourself short. The fuzor video was good.

Funny or real? In any shop a sign has a purpose and experience tells me there is nothing funny about radiation or a tool that will suck you in and will spit you out as if you're a Burger King milkshake.

I’ve been wondering ever since I started watching this channel, How do you get the funding for the new lab and your various projects?? I don’t want to sound rude, but I know that equipment and real estate must cost a small fortune. (P.S: When are you bringing back taste emporium?)
