6:49 I think you have to take into account that Riot had been doing this kind of thing for a bit when K/DA originally came out. Multiple champions had had music videos to promote their release. Their first virtual band was the metal band Pentakill in 2014, where they had a full album to promote the skin line, and they have put out two more albums for that group in 2017 and 2021. They also put out an EDM album, so I think that shows how willing they were to explore different genres. Kpop really grew a lot around 2016-2017 I believe. So I think it makes a lot of sense for them to pick up on that trend and try what they had been doing with Pentakill but with a Kpop group instead.

I love K/DA and True Damage. Those groups and Arcane are the best things to come out of Riot by a big margin.

Yeah, K/DA stuff is MINDBLOWINGly cool. Definitely check out the artists involved, they all have great music I've been listening to for years. I believe they went out of their way to adjust the animated movements of each character to make them look realistic which is so neat. You'll have to check out Mave if you haven't yet, they are an AI generated virtual girl group. There's a lot of controversy around it, but their track Pandora is so good. I don't have a huge problem with AI generated kpop groups as long as we keep them in a separate category because i still want my kpop with the human element that helps me feel more connected to them.

So how did this happen? Well, Riot had to pause Arcane because Christian Linke wanted to rewrite the whole season. That's why the animation studio had close to nothing to do in the meanttime and in order to not loose the good animators, they went in with a random project idea of their music department which the idea of K/DA. That is why their first song "popstars" is animated by Fortiche - the animation studio behind Arcane. Riot did not expect this "out of the blue RESCUE project" to blow up like it did and so they continued the kpop journey with K/DA and did more songs like this one "MORE". Today, we arrived at the boy group Heartsteel. And they make a shit ton of money with the skins and it made League really popular among non-players ;) I think a collab song of these 2 virtual groups would be an awesome project! Also: They already did a VR concert with their metal band pentakill where they used full body tracking. ;D

KDA was around long before Arcane. Pentakill was actually Riot's first "band" and music related skin line. I belive making the music videos for Riot is what got them to use that same studio for Arcane

@@ShadeThought No, KD/A was not around before Arcane. It was released earlier (2018) as I described but Arcane started back in 2015. There was no KD/A whatsoever on the horizon at that time. However, it is true they have worked with Fortiche (animation studio of Arcane) before which , is in fact, the very first animated music video they did. And this was "Get Jinxed". It is the theme music video of Jinx and was a test at that time if that kind of media will pop off in the community. And because they have a unique approach on camera perspective, they decided to start Arcane with Fortiche as well. And as a time stalling project, KD/A came in, in order to keep the animators working while Arcane S1 was rewritten. These are all facts you get to know when you watch "Arcane- Bridging the Rift". It is true, that Pentakill was in fact the very first 'virtual band' they made. They have 3 albums released so far.

@redroseibarahime8755 not sure what you're referring to as "Arcane" if you're not referring to the show that came out in 2021. Arcane was based off of the Runeterra universe, which yes technically the lore that Arcane comes from existed before KDA, but Arcane itself did not exist until after KDA

@@ShadeThought I am indeed referring to the show and I recommend watching the "making of" documentary which is called "Arcane: Bridging the Rift". Arcane is the name of the show and within the show defined as the ability to wield magic naturally as a talent. In the League unviverse we had no such definition as "Arcane" so far [even though we knew about hextech and chemtech] until the release of the show - same with shimmer. The show is based of the League of Legends universe which has nowadays the card game Legends of Runeterra as the main lore driving source. But Riot expands the lore through other games and media as well. So did the show Arcane as well [and retcons some parts]. Most of what is told in Arcane was revealed for the first time and it was explicitly told recently that Arcane is canon now. Riot is working towards a unified lore approach through all releases they do from now on. The production of the show Arcane took 6 years - from 2015-2021. So definetly, this was earlier than KD/A. Even though the release of KD/A was in fact earlier due to the fact, that they needed some stalling time for Arcane production as I explained in my first comment.

9:41 They already kind of did this actually! Riot made a 40minute long Live interactive concert for their metal band Pentakill, with the artist rigged to their character so it would move with them!! One of the best experiences with riot music imo! You should totally check it out^^

While I'm spamming your comments, I wanted to mention that Le Sserafim just did a collaboration track with Overwatch, the video game. The track is pretty soothing and low key with pretty visuals. From what I've heard about League of Legends songs, i believe they have their own production team or work with a specific one and then bring in various artists. New Jeans just did their anthem for this year's world championship. It's pretty cool if you haven't checked it out yet. Also, San from Ateez just released a special dance project video to Warriors, a previous League of Legends promotion song. San's performance is absolutely stunning

Love this!! The animation in the riot music videos is always amazing, they're really good at picking the right studios to animate for them! Like someone else also said, they even tweaked the animation on each character during the dance scenes to match their personality more, stuff like that makes it feel/look so much more real! If you're interested in animation T B Skyen has videos on a lot of the animated content that riot publishes! For this music video specifically he has a video explaining how the animation works! 😌

So they directed this just like a real music video. They wrote the music and got that all produced. They they sat down with a video production team, storyboarded this out, created all the shots and camera moves just like a real video would. Then the 3d team went and created the sets. I know for a lot of it they actually had the girls come in and do motion capture to drive the dances. The more static poses were likely just done by the animation team. Then the video shots went to post production where they add in flares, color grading, and in a lot of shots there's a really subtle crystalline overlay causes refraction of the shot. LOTS of stuff happening here, but treating it like a legitimate video shoot made it look this good.

KDA got me down the GIDLE rabbit hole if you haven't heard any of their music! Soyeon (Akali) is the leader and main rapper, and Miyeon (Ahri) is one of the main vocalists. Their group have also done performances of POPSTARS and it's really good!! I'm hoping one day they do a MORE cover.

You're just stating facts here. They knocked this out of the park. Personally, Akali gets my pulse up, but Ahri loks amazing. They all do. A cinematographer broke this down and there are some seriously professional grade things going on in this video. Things you don't notice but he did. It's pretty crazy the level of detail in terms of camera movies and set design that they went too.
