If you have the space I'd recommend getting them a bigger, wired enclosure, not so much bigger as in horizontal space but vertical. Also, a wired cage is better recommended for ventilation as rats are more prone to respiratory issues compared to mice. Other than that Judas and Judy are precious! And how lucky that you got them an apple branch and Judy loves apples!

a glass tank isnt the best way to keep smaller animals. ive only ever kept guinea pigs, but ive seen it said a thousand times not to use solid walled enclosures because it blocks proper airflow for the animal. id look into a wire/mesh walled enclosure of some kind. obviously not one made for GPs though, the rats will jump right through it lol regardless, your channel and all your videos are awesome. congrats on the recent positive exposure!

It's amazing how well you take care of them but honestly when having pet rats they NEED to be in a cage for proper ventilation. Rats get really bad respiratory issues if they don't have proper ventilation to breathe. Ammonia from their pee sinks in the tank and cant escape so they need to be in cages, otherwise have ventilation through the bottom as well as the top. Other than that, awesome video!

Years ago, a neighbor gave me a young pet rat she bought to feed to her 5-foot ball python, but the rat was having none of it and savagely attacked the snake. I bought the little bold rat a girl rat to keep her company and a big cage to house them. I named these girls Felix Dzerzhinsky, head of the Soviet secret police (aka the Cheka) under Lenin, and Lavrenti Beria, chief of the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD that later became the KGB) under Joseph Stalin. Naming pet rats after KGB chiefs seem appropriate.

We have a gopher and ground squirrel/ gray digger population where we live so bad it is almost impossible to mow the grass for all of the dirt piles and holes everywhere.. Can't keep up. Cinch traps for gophers and Conibear 110 traps for the gray diggers are the only traps that have worked so far.

we had rats as pets, the most kind rat we had wasn’t the fancy rats or the dumbo rats, or the albino rats. He was a norway rat. he was huge, 2lbs. i found that if the rats had someplace enclosed like the house you built, it tended to make them more skittish and over protective. Which led to shy rats who were afraid and would bite in fear. so I went with hammocks. fleece hammocks. they’d destroy them, but they were much friendlier. Also we used a huge 4 story ferret metal cage on wheels. I bought fleece sleeves for the ramps, as the felled was very easy to clean. I then used old fleece blankets for the bedding. I saved a ton of money, and had soft bedding for the rats. Also way less respiratory issues. I had an older top loader washer and after sweeping the solids off of the fleece i would put them through the wash. it became very simple. and the rats could always see me, and hear me, they never became shy or afraid or overprotective. I had babies this way also. Rest in peace to my big fat fred rat. he was awesome.

You’d be better off with two same-sex rats that got along living together in the pet store, and buying new ones in the future as the need arises. (Having raised hamsters as a kid, I know from experience!) Anyway, nice job.

wood. Tanks are not good for fancy rats. Yes they like to sleep and hide in tight places but those places breath. I have had rats for over 20 years and glass tanks lead to health issue and bugs. They are also harder to keep clean and dry. Wire cages are better with outer wood draft guards. I have had rats live over 3 years where glass tank rats live far shorter. Also pet rats are happier in wire cages. Also fancy rats are less likely to try escaping viva trying to push up the cage lid when in wire cages. Side doors are easier to lock. Rats are very strong viva head butting top openings. While glass is easier to view through wire is healther. Still make sure to not have their cage under ac and ceiling fans or air vents. Fancy rats are fun and wonderful pets. Taking them out and playing with them is a must. They love their owners and even sit and watch TV. Well, at least listen and snuggle. Just make sure their cage is always clean and train them to be out often to play.
