First time I saw this watch, I was eating dinner at "Patsy's" in NYC, and a gentleman was wearing this at a table next to mine... the lighting in the restaurant was low, but it was enough to make this watch almost glow. The blue hands and numerals just gives it that extra touch. I love this dial and the regular glacier motif stick dial. I also agree that platinum Day-Date 40s/IIs are in a league of their own. Platinum has such a beautiful hue and brilliant shine unlike any other metal. I also love the heft.

Just picked up a Platinum DD with 2021 new dial. Love how subtle it is with silver hour markers, hour and minute hands. Then it has popping blue second hand. I love the weight of it too. It checks all the boxes for me.

I love the dial and the warm "blue" hue of platinum, and the fact that most people wont know its platinum is a huge plus to me. Those in the know will be able to tell from across the room because the color combination is very easy to spot.

8:06 the day date 2 actually did have ceramic coated pins (the gold models didn’t). It was a test run for rolex (so people think). Now all the day date 40s have ceramics coated pins

I've always thought that people who put 50 grand in a watch were insane. But looking at it from a different perspective I realized that buying a valuable, well made wristwatch, in platinum or solid gold that is more likely to at least hold its value in 10 years is actually a pretty smart move IF YOU ENJOY IT not just as an investment. You hold the value in your hand whereas bank notes or numerals in your bank account is nothing but virtual. On top of that this watch is gorgeous! Congrats

There might be a guy sitting next to you wearing a YG President and think that his watch is more expensive than yours but he has no idea that your watch costs twice as much as his. Something about the smooth bezel I do not like...the classic fluted would make this pop. I have both DJ & Pres and when you have the Pres on with the fluted bezel with the Pres bracelet as opposed to the DJ with the fluted bezel and the Jubilee bracelet there is a difference. The price however is a sticking point as I can think of the AP Royal Oak in this price range that would out do this watch. If you really want to go with the 40mm Pres I would go with the Rose Gold Olive Green Dial now that's Boss! Not taking anything away Eric you have a watch that will last a lifetime...Enjoy!

I saw this watch and tried it on last year at a boutique in Chicago. Beautiful and heavy. I asked the sales person who buys this watch. He said that he sold a similar piece to a Chicago Bear football player. You gotta have a pretty muscular arm to carry this heavy weight. It might “ wear” on you.

You say you understand why Rolex do the flat bezel for the platinum watches? You say it’s to make it different and set it apart. It’s not. It’s because of the physical nature of platinum. A fluted platinum bezel wouldn’t stand up to wear and tear as well as gold or steel. Platinum doesn’t scratch or scrape quite like gold. Instead, it shifts and moves around, so the fluted bezel would lose its shape over time.

Hey Eric, great review. Love that watch. Not my favorite dial pattern. If I could get one, I would get the ice blue sunburst dial and baguette hour markers. The diamonds seem to hide a little in the blue. But that dail with the Roman numerals is nice.

I also like that one with the crosshatched design I think it might be a date just. I think you’re right about the 40 mm.Especially as there seems to be a trend downward in case size. Of course the new Ref.Nr in 2022 has an Excellent Amazing effect, with the fluted bezel. Yes it's Perfektion of course. But I personally don't like that Perfektion no matter how beautiful it is.
