I inherited a 1954 New Home home sewing machine that is a solid machine. I am the 4th owner of it. I wouldn't be surprised if that thing will sew sheet metal. ;) Anyways, after doing some research about my machine I found out it is made by Janome and badged "New Home". It's a straight stitch which for me is the stitch I mainly use. It's a real champ. The only thing after many miles of fabric and thread after all these years, I've had to replace the motor and foot pedal.

Nice machine! I love that you can wind the bobbin while sewing. That would be marvelous! I have a Pfaff and what I like about it is that I can wind my bobbin straight from my needle. Meaning I don't have to unthread my machine to wind a bobbin. That saves a lot of time. I am not certain if any other brands of sewing machines can do this, but it is something very handy if you don't have the "wind while you sew" capability.

I have a Janome SW 2018e; I've had it for 35+ yrs. I've recently started using it on a more consistent basis (COVID) & it's starting to show its age. Since I mainly sew bag & totes with the occasional quilt I don't need all the "fancy" stitches. I was considering the Janome HD3000. But was recently tuned into the 1600 series. I really enjoy your video because unlike other videos you show a close-up of the actual threading. You've made it a "little" less intimidating than others I've seen. Thank you and happy sewing.
@timothytotten94092 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Just be aware the 1600 is usually a strictly straight stitch machine. If you need other stitches, steer toward a different model.

I have a mechanical machine similar to the Janome and it is my go-to machine over my fancier computer machines. Sturdy & dependable and gives me a 1/4” seam allowance better than any other. I wish you many years of happy stitching on your new baby! 😍

Enjoyed your demo of Janome 1600. your telling that this Janome machine efficient and easy to use and looks fantastic. Im glad it is made with metal and the bobbin is made of metal, too. Its great to see the automatic button, too. Great machine!

I’ve got the Elnita EF1. Which is exactly the same machine except for the paint job. Also made by Janome. It’s great for making handbags. I haven’t been able to jam it up even sewing through multiple layers of vinyl, interfacing and leather. The knee lift and the thread cutter are great too.

The Singer S16 is the same machine as the Janome 1600P, the Singer version no longer being made. It was part of a trio of "Singer Studio" machines made for Singer by Janome: the S16, the S10 (embroidery machine -- same as the Janome 200e but with Singer's built-in designs and memory stick with hundreds of designs), and the S18 (full-featured zig-zag machine, same as the 6500P but with a few more stitches). There are Elna, Pfaff, Husqvarna, and Necchi versions of the 1600P also. (Janome owns the Elna and Necchi brand names.) The Janome 1600P comes in three different versions. I have the standard 1600P and the DBX.

What do you sew with this machine? Layers, leather, vinyl? Trying to decide between Juki TL-18, 1600p and HD9. The more research I do the more confusing it becomes. There are demos of the HD9 sewing types of leather but, I am unable to find videos of the 1600p sewing leather

There is no quality control in China. That’s why Briggs & Stratton is no longer in business. They made engines for lawnmowers for years in Wisconsin. Then they sent the manufacturing to China. The quality was so bad on the lawnmower engines that they were getting class action lawsuits galore, and had to go out of business. I could go on and on. If it is made in China, you can keep it. I don’t care how many cool features it has..

Timothy, what kind of needle does this machine use? The one for home sewing machines (flat side), or a commercial needle (round shaft)? Thank for the video and for highlighting the Janome machine.

In the description box below the video, he said the Janome uses a standard needle.

Standard. I use Schmetz 90 needles. The older version of this machine, the DB, uses a DBX needle with is round and, as I learned using that older version, a pain in the rear.

LoL is that all, there has to be something more to the HD9
@christelgrimmer44783 жыл бұрын
@@CrystalKay356 my understanding is it is a updated version of the 1600P, it has two thread ways, 1 normal sewing thread, the other for heavier thread, I believe better lighting and a bigger bobbin. I am just looking into it, I am between the Juki 2200qvp and the Janome HD 9.
