Your flash grade is the grade that you can flash 8/10 times for example. If he flashed 1/10 7Cs, it doesn't mean that his flash grade is 7C. He flashed most of the 7As, but fell off some harder ones, meaning 7A could be his flash grade more or less.

take an intro to climbing at your local gym. it'll come with a 2 week membership. climb lots really focusing on getting good at what you're taught and not worrying about grade. sign up for a membership. take a level 1 class. climb lots to enforce what you're learned. level 2 course. then you should be ready to take a lead class with your trusted partner. once certified to lead at the gym, really work on technique and get comfy with your headspace. practice falling lots. make sure through all if this you're communicating with your partner: belay on, climb on, climbing, take, falling, rope, clipping, etc. could very well save you from injury or worse. if your gym offers it, take a class on anchors, going off belay, back on, rappelling.... time to buy gear: draws, rope (if you've been borrowing at the gym), pas, helmet, etc. go outside and, a few grades below where you are comfy inside, pull onto real rock and go from there. I'd say a year to reach this point...seems long but your life is at risk and with such a big price, it's worth spending the time and making everything second nature. the less you're unsure of, the greater the chance you'll have a long and enjoyable climbing career. you can climb anywhere outside that has bolts all the way to the anchors once you've done all of that. it's high level but hopefully that helps.

Realistically you could probably do it very quickly with a good mentor. Just don't expect to be doing hard or scary stuff. The yosemite bit idk, but leading doesn't have to come after a huge long road of indoor toprope to lead to outdoor toprope to lead. That being said, you absolutely wouldn't want to try this without a good mentor that you trust and who seriously knows what they're doing, so the safe bet is to take that longer road others have described. To be clear I'm not talking about sieging El Cap here, just single pitch stuff. There is a tiny amount of sport climbing there, so technically you don't even have to know trad.
