Frames help to even out the outward pressure on the glass from the water and, in the case of the bottom frame, it also helps to keep the tank bottom from flexing while seated on the stand.

i know this video is older than dirt, but i just got a new 150 tall...and it is an epic pita to reach to the bottom of that thing if you have to, and for smallish fish good luck catching them lol
