I never heard anyone talk about a recovery plan. This is great!

It's very important! There needs to be some semblance of a structure that we follow to keep things moving and consistent, otherwise we fall into our old behaviour patterns which usually consist of compulsions, avoidance and unhealthy lifestyle choices.

Oh wow this is a great explanation of the unconditional acceptance. I kept getting it confused with thought /feeling neutralization and rationalizing fears to a pulp and it was perpetuating my fear of fear cycle. its great to think of it as, 'yes i don't want it and i dont have to like it at all, but i could handle it and it wouldn't be the end of the world'. its kind of hard to put into practice when ocd is latching to real life issues, but it's helping me learn life acceptance. being willing to experience anything kind of then allows you to refocus on the things that you want clearly and creating goals for them without a crippling fear entering the room and making the decisions for you. thank you jade! this helped me so much this morning just being able to clearly define my plan for recovery. an "aha!" moment.

Hi Charlee, I'm sooo happy you experienced that moment of clarity. I felt exactly the same about unconditional acceptance - I couldn't wrap my head around it for a long time. Sounds like you're really making a break through. I am going to cover your comment in my upcoming Q&A video because I think it's such a good point, so keep an eye out for that!

This is exactly what I needed to hear today, thank you so much! I was really stuck on trying to neutralize the thought using unconditional acceptance and accepting worse case scenarios in the moment. And I had my doubts whether this was the right way to do it or not, but this video just answered that question and has really helped me out, so grateful!

Hi Tim, I'm so glad it was helpful and I found the same as you that I couldn't understand unconditional acceptance for quite a while. It's so nice to get those moments of clarity. Jade

Jade, thank you. I’m also a mother of a 5yr old. I understand everything you’ve mentioned I’m going through it too. This is such an informative video it really helped me make my own plan which I’ve never had intentions of doing. So this was truly accommodating. Thank you for taking your time out and being so brave be proud of yourself. I will get there.

You absolutely can - one of the key components of recovery is to take ownership and accountability of the recovery journey, and to understand that you have the capacity, capability and power in you to do this!

Thank you so much for this video, Jade. I feel like I've watched enough of this channel's videos to start understanding what needs to be done for recovery, but it's all been a bit of a jumble in my head. This was a really good summary, it sort of brought it all together into a couple of key points. 😊 I love your videos, you're so well-spoken and articulate!

I still feel very confused by how everything fits into my theme. I wish I could afford Rob as life coach but at this point I’m sometimes seeing a therapist who uses ACT. I don’t feel as if accepting the thoughts and distancing myself from them plus using mindfulness are bringing any of the anxiety down. At the same time I don’t know how disputing irrational beliefs and practicing unconditional self acceptance will bring the fear down. I’ve had a terrible year after my OCD returned in December 2021.

Hi Alet, I'm so sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time since last Christmas. I've definitely been there where CBT and mindfulness did so much good for me and took me a long way toward being better, unconditional acceptance definitely was a valuable part of the tool kit. I'll go into this comment in more detail in my upcoming Q&A for you, keep an eye out on the channel and I'll explain a lot more about this. In the meantime, all the best to you. Jade

Hi Maximo, I’ll talk about this is my next Q&A video - what I would say is that from my experience with strategies including “it’s not me, it’s my ocd” and trying to relabel and refocus it became compulsive and only provided short term relief, I’m not closed off to this idea of this potentially helping many with less severe ocd than I had but it is not what I would consider a good approach to ocd treatment due to the fact it’s reassurance central to the strategy.

@@jadet1337 I quite much agree with you Jade. These strategies may soon become compulsive rituals. However I resort to the "refocus" step every once in a while and it ends up being quite efficient (only if I use it in small doses) Besides the other day I tried thinking "my brain may be sick, but my soul (my conscience or whatever) is healthy since this is about unmaterial stuff" Then I checked things out making an effort to look at them sort of "from my soul" It worked, but only the first 2 times ... afterwards it turned into a compulsion haha ... Damn!!!
