My teenage son and I watched this last night. Absolutely phenomenal. I don't think I've ever cried so much during a film - tears of joy, heartbreak, hope. If there's one film you commit to whole-heartedly immersing yourself in this year - this decade - make it this one. Much more than a nature documentary, it's one of those rare films that just might succeed in changing some people's perspectives about themselves, their place, and their role on this planet.

Up until then I had never had any feelings regarding octopi but I am totally changed now.

This is an exquisite film. What I took from this, is that we are all a part of a beautiful, intelligent and majestic world much bigger than our mere human one. We so often forget to step outside our trifling human experiences, and this film allows us to. It provides a glimpse into that bigger universe, with its unique timing, genius, and rhythms . I found this to be a beautiful, soothing story, with incredible camera work and gentle lessons. Best film I’ve watched in a long time !

Though the film looks like art it's actually a visual essay on the selfishness of a man. He stalks the octopus to gain her trust and exploits her trust by drawing her out "every day" exposing her to danger and in a moment when he could have protected his "friend" he betrays her trust, saying sanctimoniously he "doesn't want to interfere with nature" and instead, films the shark ripping her arm off. What a hypocrite! For all he supposedly learned from the octopus he didn't learn self-sacrifice and the integrity of what true friendship is. With a friend like Foster I wouldn't need enemies.
@joell60833 жыл бұрын
Feel the same way you summed it up perfectly.
@ozrenbalic60512 жыл бұрын
Ending was far more disturbing than the shark attack in this clip. He was filming his "octopus teacher" being washed away out of her den, barely alive, being eaten in little bites by small fish, commenting that he "could have held her in his arms and chase the fish away, but didn't". He interfered with this creature's life on the daily basis, but not when she was in pain and suffering. Way to pick and choose. What exactly did she teach him, how to make a bank without leaving home? Who on Earth watched this, and applauded this guy?

Plants are living things, why you eating them ?
@defendanimals3 жыл бұрын
@@tyrranicalt-rad6164 Yes plant are living organism but are not the same as animals. Animals are sentient beings with the capacity of feeling pain and suffering, with individualities, with needs and desires as ours. Plants do not have brains or neurons which are the pain receptors in the brains of all animals. Finally animals are not "things" they are living beings!
@vivanyatodd50363 жыл бұрын
@@defendanimals Plants might not have brains like animals, including humans, but they can also responded and reacted to various stimulation, positive or negative. They might not capable to feel pain as we do, but who's to say couldn't suffer or hurt in their own term as well?
@vivanyatodd50363 жыл бұрын
@Madda Lena Plant have no nervous system, which means they can't feel the same pain like human and many animals did. But how do you know they can't feel their own version of pain? It's surprising to see naivety and stupidity marvel at what it discovers for the first time about the life of octopuses for example, things that are not new and that many people do not know. This nice man did not save the octopus from the shark attack so as not to interfere with its environment but I wonder if he asked himself the question because by his simple contact with the octopus he interfered with his environment and when he wonders what the octopus is looking for in this relationship, well, you don't have to be very smart to understand that the octopus seeing that he was harmless is probably said that he would be a good bulwark against his enemies because much bigger than them. Then the female octopus remains in the hole to protect her eggs but above all to oxygenate them. Well he will discover, I wish him, lots of other things about the sea and nature, hoping that he will be less naive and more protective because he literally let down the octopus who was counting on him.
