I had this type of lizard once. It’s very docile and I could actually hold it. Beautiful creatures… peace and hugs KP

I had two of them, I got them at an expo, the males have color the females are completely brown with stripes. The male died because of a viral infection (because they’re wild caught) and the female lived but her tail now splits into two at the end. I’ve had the female for mine than a year now and she’s fine-ish with being handled. Mine didn’t breed because the male only lives for a few months but I’ve heard that they’re live bearers. I’m going to the same expo I got them at so hopefully there’s more, and it was 25$ each so 50$ for a pair.

Interesting. I believe the brown one you are describing is a different species from the same area in Madagascar (possibly Tracheloptychus madagascariensis). From my research, males and females don't look different in color and can only be identified by the males larger scale tags on each side of his vent. I also found they lay their eggs conventionally (Oviparous). Good luck at he expo. Thank you for your comment!

My girlfriend and I are doing the exact same thing for one of these guys. He/she has been at our local Petco for months so we are hoping to go get them!

I just got two from Petco for my daughters! I also consider it a rescue, because they've been there for several months. Where did you get those rocks?
@madmakerreptile82944 жыл бұрын
Hi Jonathan, great choice for child. I picked up the rocks from a local stone and brick yard. Thanks for commenting!

Its good to know that mine is acting very similarly to yours, because I'm not nearly as experienced as you seem to be and this is my first pet. I got mine May 27th last year and he's barely grown, although the guy at my Petco said they live for up to 14 years. Great video!

Great first pet! Excellent choice! I really don't know how long they can live. 14 years seems like a lot though....

I have a male and he loves to come up sun bathe and then go straight into the water dish. He acts like a skink in my opinion except he loves the sand.

Wow, how interesting! I have only seen my guys in the water twice in the year I've had them. I still keep it clean... Yes! They seem to be all about the sand. Thanks for commenting!

Mine doesn’t like his substerate (its coconut fiber.) he just lays above ground and doesn’t burrow. He was a rescue from a store shipment from madagascar (males attacked the poor guy) and has a missing foot and half a back foot. The Reptile Rescue said he has recovered and has been doing better past few months. At the moment He just sleeps above ground near his uvb. And he will burrow when I open his enclosure. Does feeding them live meal worms work well? Im worried they’d damage his stomach. I have him a rock hide and some dead ornamental grass and cholla wood. I plan to replace the Substerate or mix it with some Non dusty playsand.

Sounds like that guy's had a rough go. Sucks... I do feed mealworms and small super worms. They seem to be doing fine with it. I have cut the worms in half first before. They will eat that too. Might be good for your guy. Easier to catch. I feel like clean play sand would be okay although I've never tried it. Mix in 5 or 10 percent eco earth or something so it can hold a little moisture. Good luck and thank you for the comment!

MadMaker thank you for the response. Im planning on mixing the sand and eco earth coconut dirt. Im thinking on getting him some Dubia roaches if he doesn’t eat them ill just breed them for my emerald swift. Thank You for the advice. Ill give you updates on Captain Hook (thats his name lol.) 😄

Cool! Small dubies work good. Maybe use a bowl they can't escape from and push it into the sand. This will give him better access and easy catching. Roaches be quick! I love emerald swifts! Always wanted one.... never have. Thanks!

From my understanding the males have more blue in their faces
@madmakerreptile82945 жыл бұрын
Interesting thanks! I'd not heard that. I did learn since making this video that they have small "tag scales" protruding out each end of their vent. Males have larger tags... Thanks for your comment!

How are these 2 doing? I just got one today and information is scarce :(
@madmakerreptile82943 жыл бұрын
They are doing great! Still going strong. Basically nothing has changed. I did find out that they can brumate. Cool them off a little and they will stay buried and not eat for about 3 months. Thanks for the comment. Let me know if you have any other questions. I'd be happy to help if I can.

I honestly don't know. I would guess they are imports of some sort but who knows? Thanks for your comment 👍

I just bought an African one today! Ive been keeping reptiles for a lttle over 2 years now. What would you say is the best day time heat lamp setup.
@madmakerreptile82945 жыл бұрын
Congratulations! I'm not sure what you mean by "African one". Temp requirements are very specific to the exact species. What's yours called? I have this basking spot at about 110 degrees (43 C). Thank you for your comment!

MadMaker Reptile I have an African Flat rock lizard native to Namibia and South Africa
@madmakerreptile82945 жыл бұрын
Ah yes. Had to look it up but now I remember. I don't have any experience with your guy's species so I Highly suggest that you try research them as much as possible and as specific as possible. I don't know how you purchased it but breeders are usually the best source of information regarding care and husbandry. I would contact some if possible. I'm doing the same for my guys. No luck yet. Hopefully this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. That's what our channel is all about!

MadMaker Reptile ok Thanks. I got him from a local pet store, way better and less neglectful than petco, that have half the tank setups as bioactive tanks. I will definitely try and find a breeder.

Very cool! See if the pet shop you bought it at will put you in contact with the people the got it from. Great place to start. Good luck to you!

@madmakerreptile82944 жыл бұрын
Since I made the video, I learned that you can sex them (once mature) by examining the scales on each side of the vent. Males have one elongated "tag like" scale on each side. They're not really visible from the top. Females lack this.
