I bought my used Epiphone banjo 2 weeks ago and I was on lesson 4 of “Jim Pankey’s Learning Bluegrass Banjo” (Highly Recommended). I suddenly began to feel pain in my right shoulder and now after 4 days of worsening pain, I can’t even move my right arm. I’m hoping that I will stop hurting because I was really starting to get comfortable with the rolls I was practicing. As for YOU, WOW! you’re really sounding great! I hope I can be just a fraction as good as you at my 60 day point. Providing God will heal up this awful shoulder pain and injury. Congratulations! You are a very determined person. I see this video is dated 2 years ago. Could you possibly make a video of your current banjo skills? I would really like to see your skills now. I hope you stuck with the banjo over the past 2 years. Thanks for making these great videos.

Yes little bro. Setting up a banjo properly can be alittle daunting for beginners for sure. Very proud of you man. Going to tune my cheap banjo up tomorrow and start again as I have to replace the plastic but on my Washburn that's cut a mile to deep and pinches the strings.

Very good progress! One thing I tried last week to help with muscle memory, is to close my eyes when playing. My speed increased exponentially and now my left hand is moving to the correct frets 90% of the time with an occasional peek. Just thought I’d mention that, give it a try and see if that helps.

That's a good tip. I really focus on my right hand hitting the correct strings.

That would definitely help with muscle memory, I will give it a try!

Great video! You've really progressed in a short time. I can play Cripple Creek and Banjo In the Hollow now but nowhere near that fast. I have to watch my right hand quite a bit too. Hope I get as good as you in a few more weeks.

I started a few years ago on practicing rolls and quit because of sore fingers and started again and quit for the same reason. Now I'm starting again basically from scratch. I have a Washburn B-17 Americana but it needs some work and upgrades straight from Sweetwater but that's not their fault but I do have a less expensive lighter banjo it's a Harley Benton B-55 bluegrass banjo. Not sure if it even has a tone ring in it but it will be plenty good enough to practice on untill I get all the tools and confidence to cut and file a new nut for the Washburn.

You’re doing really well. I’ve only seen a few people who could pick up banjo as well as you did...good job! Also: you should make the titles (words on a black background) stay a little longer. I have to pause the video every time to see them

@@asimplekindalife8526 okay. So after I finished Jim’s course, I went with: I am a man of constant sorrow (Jim’s version) I’ll fly away (Jim’s version) Rainbow connection (Jim’s version) Cumberland gap (Jim’s version) The ballad of Jed Clampett (Jim’s version) Jingle Bells (Jim’s version. This one was very important-it taught me chimes, and that has helped me a lot) Sweet home Alabama (from Happy Banjo Dude) Dooley (Jim’s version) I did a lot of other little songs in between, too. I played with some guitar players, and that taught me a lot. Definitely start experimenting with improv, IE play a song you know well on a laptop and play the banjo to it, doing whatever, until you get it. That helps A LOT.
