Ok 1 more thing, just matched over to SWA A-list from AA gold which I found out is more than just free early bird- the same day change or standby is great and further they let you board after A1-60 so can still get a decent seat (since your actual boarding position would be the worst after standby anyway). Just tried it out and pretty clutch! Flexibility always gives more piece of mind

AA makes it way easier to earn status without flying. While United has a bit of a monopoly at my airport I want to see if I get fewer biz travelers to compete with on AA. I may try a United status match challenge- even that is a lot of flights and cash for 4 months- at least for gold, maybe I’ll just try for silver since I’ve heard (Ask Sebby) even 1Ks don’t reliably get upgrades out of SFO. Re-Qualifying would be really hard though. At least AA gives you a bonus earn on status points with status. To me, if they can’t even give you any kind of head start towards requalifying where’s the motivation?

On the other hand at least United and Delta give you qualifying points on award tickets now, unlike AA.

I just updated my united airlines explorer card to the united airlines quest card because I have over 5000 miles on united airlines and I feel that you can get better states on the quest card over the explorer card.

I actually mainly use the Chase Sapphire Reserve, but after having status now for 3 years and potentially losing it due to flying different airlines I may just start going the card route for more PQPs.

I just got approved for the Chase United Quest card. I went with that card almost entirely for the 70k mileage bonus. The additional 500 PQPs are nice, but are a temporary benefit since they only count in a single 12 month period (until FEB 2025 for me). I have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, but I don’t use the Chase portal for my many international flights. When something goes wrong (and it will), it’s so much better dealing with the airline if you booked directly with them, vs the 3rd party Chase portal. The Quest card has a 3x multiplier when used for United purchases, which is better than the CSP 2x on travel.
