My Opel Manta A '71 DRIVES AGAIN!!! | First start | Restoration DONE (?) | Assembled |

Hello everyone!
I am glad to finally put this video out - Manta being assembled and engine started and first meters done! Firstly - the car is NOT DONE yet. We still need to sort some details and some modifications will follow but this is a big milestone in the project as the car finally drives and is registered. Also - we need to optimise the engine etc. Hope you will enjoy this video as I did making it. I know it has been a long time coming but I just focused more on the car than on making a lot of shorter videos.

I had a metallic green Manta A back the mid 1980s. I still think about that car now and wish I still had it. Great to see one getting restored. Well done.

I was just thinking of you Friday, May 10th. I was very pleased to see your new post. Your car sounds very nice coming up the hill. So glad for you to be able to drive it. You will fix the "bugs" in time. You and your dad have come a long way with that car. I wanted to tell you the bolt on battery clamps can cause problems with corrosion and for that reason you need to keep an eye where the positive cable bolts to the battery clamp. One other thing. Battery powered leaf blowers are the newest thing to blow the water off of your car when you wash it. It will dry spot free. Something to think about down the road. May you have many safe and trouble free miles with your car. Thanks for posting your restoration.

Ah, continued determination, huge help (father?) and now the enjoyment begins!! May you have many years of payback for all the effort, and drop us videos when you can. Be great if you could mount a camera in passenger head rest for some drives so we can see as if your passenger. One tip you might already know, when storing battery outside of car, always place it on a block of wood and not on ground. Exceptional restoration Metod, looks SUPER! Go MANTA

Congratulations!! That first engine start is always scary. Do I have oil pressure, what is leaking, is my engine timing correct. All that will be sorted. I did hear some coughing from the DCOE Webers. That can be from being slightly lean of fuel, but it can also be from the throttle synchronization, between the front and rear DCOE. Years ago I ran dual DCOE, and had a similar issue. I finally made a plate that connected both DCOE bodies together via the air horn studs. From there the bracket had a tongue that an adjustable rod fastened to the engine mount bolt. The upper half of that rod went through a 8mm hole in the DCOE tongue, using two rubber shock absorber washers. This finally stabilized the DCOE carburetors, allowing me to keep the throttles synchronized. By the way,...I love the sound DCOE carburetors make. Great job Metod!

Dual carb setup will require some fine work and I keep improving it and it rund way better than it did but still not good enough by my standards. Great job Metod! Awesome to see the car on the road, and the big smile on your face. The dual carbs sound fantastic. I'm still dreaming of doing something similar. I like your Recaro seats as well, probably a lot more supportive than the stock seats. It's interesting to me that you installed an AFR gauge, I've been considering the same thing to help with carb tuning. Also I was interested to see you tape off the C-pillar vents to wash the car. I never thought to do that, but probably a good idea! We had to patch those areas on my Manta during restoration ~15 years ago, and they are bubbling again underneath... maybe from car washes! Anyway big congratulations and I hope you have a lot of fun with the car this summer. Will look forward to whatever updates you have in the future.

Thanks man! Yeah as you know the gills on C pillar are not the best when it comes to water so I figured I rather spent 2 min and tape them. AFR gauge was I think money well spent as it really helps for tuning the carb. Thanks for following the project, more content is to come 🙌
