I'm really glad you've reviewed this from the point of personality and the kind of person (especially with ADHD) who thinks by writing - because that's exactly what I'd use it for. I have shitloads of notebooks that I forget what's in them (or grab the nearest one to write something in and mix it all up which... hurts). I was unsure if this was any good for me but everything you're talking about is my jam.

The main reason why I've thought about getting one is the ability to insert new notes in between old notes. Just like if after typing a whole page on Word and you want to insert a new paragraph in the middle and the words below just shift down. Can't do that with pencil and paper. I would like to organize multiple notebooks worth of notes into one digital place but being able to add notes in any order amongst older notes would be even better.
@i.v.iivilation63633 жыл бұрын
Omg, I'm thinking of buying an e-reader and note taker tablet just because of this reason--inserting new notes in between old notes--but I can't get my hands on reMarkable(it doesn't ship to my country) so I was thinking of buying Boox note air, which I really hope it has this functionality of insertion new notes in between old ones...

I just bought the Remarkable-2 a few days ago and even though I've been looking at it for quite a few months and have been interested since number 1, I got a sudden panic about it. I was scared it was another one of my stupid impulse buys and that I was gonna regret it. (I'm not diagnosed (yet) but I'm pretty sure my brain lives in the add land somewhere lol) This made me much more calm and confident about my choice. I think this will be a great tool for me as my ipad (although I love it) is definitely a distraction when I try using it for those functions. Thanks for this informative and simple video. I started watching a review/guide split in 4 parts, 45 min each, and it was just not possible for me to get through. Brain be like HUH? ... Rewind. Huh? Forgot to pay attention.. Great review. And you nailed the question some people have about ipad vs reMarkable. Two completely different devices. Ive owned an ipad for many years, but for example, while I’m on my zoom calls using my ipad, I cant take notes using the ipad, so thats where the reMarkable comes in for me. I take a lot of notes and create post it notes and sadly, all my notepads and stickies are spread all over the house, so cant ever find any of my notes when I need them, or I have 3-4 projects sitting on one notebook which is equally confusing. I order my remarkable 2 a couple days ago and just hoping it doesn’t take as long as some people are saying.

Was about to purchase a Remarkable/2 (despite the fact that there are no local distributors). Then I checked the vendor Warranty. Unfortunately, it's "limited" and lasts for just one year! Almost all the viable alternatives offer 2-3 year options. And in some instances, this includes accidental damage etc. Deliberately minimal Guarantees like this are concerning. In my experience, this indicates that the manufacturer has no confidence in the reliability & longevity of their product /device. Yes, it seems like an innovative & useful device, especially for some specific use-cases (as explained). But it's expensive - and I've no interest in purchasing a new one each & every year. It's a shame that they don't offer a decent Guarantee. Will keep looking.. elsewhere.

I have a rM 1 since two years and, like for the rM2, the support for organizing documents is basically inexistent: no support for page bookmarks, no way to access the same document from different folders, no way to add pages with annotations to a .pdf document, no support for rotating a two-columns document for better readability. The devices have very limited memory, a crap software and poor customer support, in my view.
@peerthroughmedia3 жыл бұрын
Fair, I mean it doesn't even begin to touch the first 1% of what an iPad can do, BUT I personally still like it. Helps me disconnect from the screen and still get work done. I have couple of questions. 1. I wanna use it as a "kindle".. read books, I mostly read nonfiction, textbooks types and I write directly in my books. This looks perfect for that, but all of the vids I've seen, there's one thing that looks really annoying.. It looks like the pages flip really slow.. like internett in the 90's, waiting for the page to load.. 2. Can you create notes with bookmarks from e-books, if you know what I mean.
@peerthroughmedia3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the e-reader is decent, but not great. The pages flip somewhat slow and the functionality isn't off the charts. It might be possible, but to my knowledge, you can't highlight and add bookmarks. It's much more of a note taking output device than an input , information consumption device.

I'm hoping to send files to the remarkable 2 to take notes on (like a pdf of color powerpoint slides for classes). When you send the document back to yourself after taking notes on the remarkable 2, does it go back to being in color or does it stay grayscale?
@peerthroughmedia3 жыл бұрын
Not sure, but I would think what you could do, is make notes on a new layer. Then when you send, turn off the visibility of the layer with the slides, send as an SVG and overlay those notes on your computer. Should work, but doesn't seem that efficient/I haven't personally tried.

Checking out their site now, they do say that it might take two weeks for them to reply...which doesn't help you, I know, with the clock ticking. When I did return my unit (twice, since I sent the replacement back, too), this is what they had me go to this website/returns page: remarkable.12return.com. NO idea if there is science behind laptops directly on the lap etc. but figured - eh, why not just keep it off? As I mainly use it as an organized notebook, I don't super need it to be connected. I just turn on the wifi when i need to convert to text and send an email. Within that same couple minute frame it tends to sync all the content to the cloud.

Can you please provide advice for those who may be left-handed and/or have needs related to dexterity? It's hard to assess based on the videos if you have difficulty with handwriting. Also, do any of these products convert handwriting to typed text and do simultaneous audio recording similar to a Echo Pen? (where the writing and audio are synchronized)? If there was a notebook that worked well for left-handed people with dexterity difficulties, did synchronized audio recording, and converted handwriting to typed text, with the capacity to turn off the backlight, and even a screen-protector paper feel if it doesn't come with the product itself, that would be a game changer for a lot of people. Can you please make a video about this???? Pretty please!!!!
@peerthroughmedia3 жыл бұрын
To quote Princess Bride, "I'm not left handed" so I probably can't help you with a video on that side of thing. Though, there is a left handed mode. So, that should work just as well as the right handed mode. Remarkable 2 does a decent job converting handwriting to written text, but no audio recording that I know of. In terms of the capacity to turn off the backlight, remarkable saves you a step because there isn't a backlight. Seems like you have a strong vision of what you want though. Hope you can invent it one day! Thanks for watching :)

@@peerthroughmedia Thanks for replying. I do know what I want but I would rather work with a UX team to help them design it. It seems like reMarkable is super close. I tried to contact their team and they didn't seem to understand the concept of inclusive design (or at least the person I spoke to through social media didn't). Aish. I'm surprised that they don't seem that interested in expanding their customer base.

I've been wanting this for decades. :) But I don't want to get another device that I don't use because it doesn't meet my needs (like my frustrating experience with an e-reader). I am also confident that there are a lot of people like me out there and that even people who don't need these features will benefit from them.
@cybeles78063 жыл бұрын
The reason I'm mentioning turning off the backlight and the paper feel is because these seem like great features of reMarkable. But if iPad Pro, for example, was able to better deliver the other features on my list (and I have a cool list!), I'd pick another one and adapt it.

How small can you write on one of these? Would this be good for small writing, technical notes.. I'm thinking of getting this or something like this for college classes and for that unplugged feeling. Currently I'm going through a couple notebooks each class. I write sort of smallish I think - my letters fit inside a 4x4mm square on average. I've tried writing smaller but at 2x2mm sizes it becomes a bit too slow for me. Can this write that small?
@peerthroughmedia3 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure how to answer this question. You can zoom in and out on the canvas so that would help with small text. For the most part it feels like it can write as small as you can write on paper.

Thanks a lot for this very clear video. I’m waiting for my RM2 with the exact same configuration as yours. I live in France as I’m... French 😁 so the only constraint I see is the QWERTY keyboard (we need accents as you may know) One question, does the system automatically send the file in the cloud or do you have to do it manually? Thanks a lot

They have US and norwegian keyboard and even if a typical norwegian keyboard has les accents aigus , graves et circonflexe, you do not have them availble in the rM2 keybord for now. But the hand conversion to text (quand tu convertis ton écriture en écriture d ordinateur) takes into account french writing so it will convert les accents et meme les c cédilles.

Distraction free : when a device cannot do some basic things other devices can...
@gentlemansgear50413 жыл бұрын
Lol not really, they could have easily just ripped off some functions and added them to their software but that’s not the point of the device. Also it’s something quite different to other devices so we shouldn’t be comparing it to functions of an IPad or a Boox has.
@peerthroughmedia3 жыл бұрын
It has way less features, but that is purposeful. I genuinely enjoy the "distraction free" idea. That's why I say in this video it's unfair to compare it to a tablet, because it isn't a tablet. It's its own thing.
@chocoboleg3 жыл бұрын
@@peerthroughmedia I prefer a device that offers me some features which I can disable If I don't want to be "distracted". I don't compare a Remarkable2 to an Ipad, but to an Onyx Boox for example. The distraction comes from me and I can be distracted by many things other than table features.
