The only slabbed cards I’ve purchased were an Alpha Sol Ring (CGC 9) and a Beta Sol Ring (CGC 8.5). I was happy to pay the premium for them being graded because it gave me confidence I knew what condition to expect them in (as well as confidence in their authenticity). Needless to say, I cracked them out of those slabs as soon as I got them.

Wow, cracking them out of 9s is crazy. Do you use them in decks?

Yip, I use them in decks

CGC ahh....

@@life_kluda my brother in christ, the actual card grading company you use is pretty irrelevant, especially if you are just looking to buy a card in good condition that you are going to take out of the slab to play with. All the companies have track records of authenticating fakes, giving out nonsensical grades, etc etc. The most popular one (PSA) is notorious for handing out undeserved high grades.

I have a full Power 9 set that I had graded primarily to let any potential buyer know that these cards are legit and not proxies or worse.

I like to grade higher value cards for authenticity primarily , sometimes also if I have a very good copy of a card that has a low 10 pop it’s worth taking a shot for the premium

I always avoided slabs (comics and cards), but it makes sense that it's only upside for older pokemon that no one's playing. Hell, maybe those older pokemon leagues will have folks putting together shuffling sets like I've known many vintage mtg players to have.

Sadly Sorcery didn’t get much traction in GA and SC. But I only grade cards that are extremely rare. I also avoid PSA. I have no faith in their Yugioh knowledge due to all the errors I’ve seen.

The whole concept of grading is to derisk a purchase/investment by having 3rd party verification of the cards authenticity and/or to preserve a collectible. However, you are mostly paying extra to know the alpha Lotus has been 3rd party verified to be authentic. When it comes to grading, it is simply the rarity of a high grade within a given census. The concept of grading is relatively newer than the creation of some TCGs, the younger (more modern) the tcg the less valuable grading is for authentication and grading - people are more into grading now then ever straight from the pack making those high grade cards on a given census worth significantly less. It can make sense to grade extremely rare modern cards but I would really only save it for vintage cards needed authentication and preservation. Really the likelihood that anyone cares about that 10 Umbreon Vmax or Philosophers stone in 20 years is exceptionally low relative to a vintage power 9.

I collect MTG. I, as most in MTG collect BGS slabs primarily but given the lack of supply and CGC's popularity I have recently purchased multiple CGC slabs. The market is changing slowly but all things equal the premium is with BGS as most of us have most of our slabs BGS graded.

I wish I could get my cards slabbed. That's pretty wild. If your pokemon card doesn't get 10, it's basically raw.

Also, BGS seems to have the best UV protection for cards.

With all due respect to Sorcery (which I love), how dare you put that on the same screen between a Mox Sapphire and a Base Set shadowless Blastoise 😂 Also I do have a sleeved 24 year old Pokemon deck that I used to win all of my badges

Beckett has a huge advantage over PSA on vintage Magic in that they will grade all the cards. I'm not a fan of grading, but if I were to grade something vintage it'd be whole sets, and for many sets it's just not possible with PSA. I tested this directly and PSA simply would not grade any of the cards modern WotC has deemed problematic. That hits every core set from Alpha through 7th, plus Arabian Nights and Legends.

Graded cards are up with Sealed packs/boxes. Cards are meant to be played with not oggled at and used as "Investments"

Hello, not sure if this will be seen but I was wondering if you’d be able to make a video on how to run a tournament as an LGS, like what software if needed and such. Or if you happen to know anyone who’s posted something like that.

As a tournament organizer, I know a lot of stores (that I’ve played in events at their store) could definitely use a video on how to properly run a tournament
