I had the same thing with one of my old oscars! Its good that your treating it before it gets too sunken in because those dents can be permanent! Great video...loving your camera work!

I've been through this once before, but I was hoping that I could avoid it with this guy. I didn't see any signs of it until it was this large. 24 hours later it's darkening and looks like it is healing. The scrapes however aren't healing as quickly. Thanks about the camera work. I actually am a video producer as a full-time career, but haven't really utilized much of it on the channel yet as I do it in my free time and try to make the videos very quickly. My garage isn't the best for filming either. :)

Hi Tony.. I hope Oski does ok.. and gets better fast. It happens and sometimes you can do everything right and you still have trouble.. trust me I know. At least there is treatment you can do.. Good Luck Hope he's healthy soon
@hooktherapy8 жыл бұрын
Thank Deb. I know you went through a real tough time. I guess I am lucky that this won't spread to others in the tank. Also, I sent you a message. For some reason I haven't been allowed to comment on your videos for the past few days. I get an "unknown error". I'll probably try unsubbing and then subscribe again to see if that will fix it.

I had an Oscar that had this, and the hole formed completely through his head. He still lived for a year or so longer, but he did eventually pass a while back. Was weird to witness, but I learned a lot about what causes it.

best of luck with treating your oscar. general cure is a great medication but expensive. i would recommend a 20g long as a hospital tank and you can save on the general cure.
@hooktherapy8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. He's looking quite a bit better 24 hours after the first dose. General Cure is a bit pricey. I paid $16 for it...more than Oski cost to buy. The 20 long is a great idea! I have a 20 gallon hospital tank I could use, but it's not a long one. Those are all in my rack and full. I'm willing to just go with it this time and dose all 50 gallons for convenience.

Actually I think you can put the dry almond leaves in the tank, add salt and methylene blue or millian you can buy them at the drugstores. Normally it will take 3 days.

My Oscar had the same issue, I watched for 13 hrs and found he was scraping his head on a piece of driftwood, this is a 400 gallon aquarium suiting 4 oscars, tank auto water changes every 36 hrs, I think this is not a hole in the head situation.

@binhleton86444 жыл бұрын
You should have another smaller tank for the treatment (I call it the hospital tank) because medicine may have a bad effect on the other fish not a medicine but just in case.

Yes, mine was swimming around this morning and just found dead now. Pulled him out looking at fins and then finally moved him in a certain way to notice his head wasn't right so touched it and my finger sank in, there was a massive hole . His face mouth also had massive hole. We are sad and gutted. He was about to move into a bigger tank and get tank mates as he lost his. Sad he never got to the better tank

The exact cause of hole in the head are electric poles that emanate from the brain of the fish. These poles start at the brain and run down the electric pathways of the fish. The cause of this situation is "capacitance" Most fish tanks have lights that emanate electromagnetic energy into the water. Pumps and heaters as well, The water isn't grounded as it sits in an insulator (glass or plastic). The water becomes electrically charged and unable to release the energy. The tank becomes a "capacitor," the electrical brain activity reacting with the charged water body creates a cathode. This cathode, ionizing the flesh at the location of the magnetic poles that emanate from the nervous system. Once the flesh is opened up by this electric affect, allowing infection. The infection is secondary to the magnetic cause. Ground your fish tank to earth It only takes a few mili amps [ma] over long periods to cause this situation.

and i thought my oscar jump and cut his head pretty deep. so i thought nothing of it cos he is eating well and showing no sign of lethargic or whatsoever... eventually the hole disappeared without medication. After i learnt about “hith” i upgrade my filter system and put extra careful on my wc.

My oscar has a white mark near his head. I can't tell if it's HITH. It looks like he banged himself on the lid because when I got home, the lid was not slightly moved out of position and he had a SMALL layer of his skin on his forehead cut off but still connected revealing a white mark underneath. I hope it's just a wound though. I added some salt in today after my weekly water change. Tank Size: 55 gallons Tankmates?: None

I have kept a few oscars, and sometimes when they are younger they will get scrapes on their head from bumping into things. Are you sure It's HITH? It just looks like an injury to me. Maybe from bumping into the rocks at night when the light is off? Anyway, beautiful oscar. I love them. They have such great personalities.
@hooktherapy8 жыл бұрын
I'm not positive it was HITH. I went based on pictures and taking photos to the local fish store.

They are a messy fish. You need A-1 cleaning procedures to make sure rotting food in the gravel doesn't set it off, i think. I used this API once(back to back, 2 doses as recommended) , it seemed to spark his energy levels a few days to a week, but I have mot beaten this Hole in Head on him yet. Ill give another go here soon.

My flowerhorn is having holes in the head and I used the API treatment last week. After 57 hrs later my fish got better because the scars look like it's healing up so I stopped. Now it's coming back again, so do I repeat the same treatment this time? How long do I need to continue to make sure the disease is completely gone? On the package it said 48hrs then repeat for another 48hrs but even if after 4 days the fish won't get better, what do I do?
@hooktherapy7 жыл бұрын
Sorry I just saw this. I had a tooth removed and have been recovering with lots of sleep. I would try it again. It may not have fully healed. Did you do a massive water change after it was doing well? Stress or poor water quality can be a cause. So if you aren't changing whatever the source may be...then it might keep recurring.
@MaiNguyen-es8mc7 жыл бұрын
Creative Fish Studio I did only a 25%water change after so that probably the reason y! Beside API, do u have any other recommendations? Thank you for ur reply!

You should have done a 80% water change used to keep discus back in the 70"s did 80% water change every week . don't under stand modern 20 to 30% change makes no sense?
@seanmetzger47803 жыл бұрын
There’s no master fish keeper on the planet that recommend an 80% change, your doing nothing but stressing the fish being in such low water, and such a drastic water quality change...if you need an 80% change to keep your water parameters in check, your filtration is terrible. I can keep my nitrates in check with a 10% every 2 weeks
