EDIT: Turns out I can't bloody edit and cut out half the section talking about my spanish interview - basically it went much better -messed up the speaking section but other than that it was much better! Hey guys - thank you for watching this video. It's definitely an honest video that has traced the emotional rollercoaster that has been the last few days. If I'm honest, I'm feeling pretty down and dejected, and primarily disappointed in myself, as I know I could have done so much better. My heart hurts more than I thought it could and I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. To fall short at the final hurdle after SO much work is horrible, and sadly being there for the last few days has made me fall in love with the place even more. When you have a true passion for a subject, it’s heartbreaking not to be given a chance to truly get that across. Despite all of this, I'm still proud of myself for at least brushing myself off and stepping up to the plate in my second interview - which is something I didn't think I would be able to do. I put my everything into this, and I think it's only now that i've had to admit how much it all meant to me. But hey ho! Now it is a waiting game. Thanks for supporting me as always - I hope you enjoy this video. X ps. sorry if there are anymore editing bloopers - wanted to get this up ASAP but my brain is the most fried it has ever been!

Eve, you're so honest and pure The reality is that not everyone finds their oxford interviews perfect, in fact the TSR has shown that out of the 60 candidates who rated their 2017 oxford interview, those who scored a 1-4 out of 10 for their interview actually got the offers other than those who said 8-10 out of 10. I guess the reason that you are feeling down is because you are challenged! And GIRL going to Oxford is going to challenge you every day but you overcame that and I'm sure the interviews can see that from your apt performance you clearly deserve a place because there is a gap for them to fill! They can teach you! You did well!!!!

Oxford or not, you will be successful in whatever you go into and that's what matters

They don't care only about if you get the answers right or know absolutely everything. It's more about how you think and how you cope in the situation and when you don't know it already. They are fine if you don't know the answer as long as you are clever in how you combat that and how you try to work it out.

Honestly my interviews went the exact same (History and English). They didn’t refer to any of my UCAS or submitted work or even extra reading. I felt like there was no discussion as the tutors had set questions so I wasn’t able to direct the conversation to something I felt comfortable talking about in depth. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting but everyone I have spoken to has said the same. I’m sure you have done so much better than you feel you have - it’s natural to feel this way after an interview.

Danielle Yates mine was exactly the same. It completely threw me!

Alexandra Brooke in my English interview the tutor specifically asked what books I was studying as part of my school modules - not what I was reading outside of the curriculum so all the extra reading has felt like such a waste. I’m glad other people have felt the same though.

Hey Eve. Just wanted to say a huge well done for getting to the interview stage. I've been following your revision channel from the beginning and really appreciate how honest you are about your academic endeavours, especially as a language student. I'm in Year 12 right now, studying German, hoping to go to Cambridge for Japanese, and I really admire how real you've been about the interview process. Remember that Oxbridge consider your application holistically! I have every faith that you have done the absolute best you can and I'm sure that wherever you go, Oxford or not, you will shine. I wish you the absolute best of luck with your Oxford application - you are so nearly there!

Eve I literally felt the same in my interviews last year for Cambridge. But sometimes even if you mess up an interview if they really like you then you still have a chance at getting a place. You’ve put so much work and effort in so you should be really proud of yourself nevertheless. Don’t feel too disheartened about it because you’ll be incredibly successful wherever you end up

Hey Eve I'm a first year at The Queen's College Oxford doing German! I honestly felt exactly the same as you after my interview last year. I cried so much because I was convinced that I had completely messed up! The poem they gave me was about 5 lines long and I literally didn't know what it was about at all so I was just making up stuff and then in the section where they asked me questions in German I actually didn't know how to answer one of the questions (couldn't figure out how to use the conditional lol) and sat there in silence and then my tutor had to ask me another question. I really thought last year that if I didn't get pooled to another college then I'd have absolutely no chance of getting in because I was so disappointed in myself and I knew I could have done so much better butttt I've now just finished my first term in Oxford! The tutors are honestly looking for potential and seeing how your brain works I think. They know that you're going to be so so nervous so they massively take it into account. I just want you to know that literally everything you said was how I felt coming out of my interviews last year so definitely don't give up hope!! 💛
@martevandergraaf9237 жыл бұрын
Also about the way the tutors are in interviews, I think a lot of them purposefully put on a blank face which makes them look like they aren't interested so that people don't really know how they've done. It's so funny because I was absolutely terrified of my tutor in the interview last year and I really thought he hated me but I absolutely love him now and he's actually really funny and lovely not scary!

Hey Eve! I'm a first year biologist at Oxford :) Your interview experience sounds very similar to mine. My first interview (at Magdalen- didn't apply there) was absolutely dreadful (also came out crying lol); I went into the second one with my hopes dashed and so putting no pressure on myself. Turns out I really enjoyed it and that is seemingly a good sign- I ended up getting an offer from them!

A Flanagan a large part of the decision is how the interview goes. They analyse your personality and whether you’re suited to the environment in an interview. It’s quite a corrupt way of doing things if you ask me, but that’s the way they do it. They must’ve just decided Jade wasn’t suited to the environment and we have to trust them on that. It’s whatever though, Oxford isn’t everything, there will be other opportunities for Jade.

Current French and German student here at the Other Place (Cambridge). As such I won't claim to be an expert on Oxford interviews, but a couple of things to bear in mind: first of all that they're not looking for the finished article - otherwise they wouldn't have anything to teach you - but rather for someone that is going to cope in the system and who they will like teaching. I'm convinced that what they're actually concentrating on is 'deeper down' than whether you use the wrong word here or there. I've said some incredibly stupid things in supervisions (tutorials) before - including a low point where I didn't understand the text that I'd just written a commentary on. Also the interview is but one small bit of your application. Again I think we do things differently to Oxford, but at Cambridge they interview about 80% of applicants and take a much smaller number, but they already have some idea as to the ones they're going to take before the interviews begin. They're just looking for the interview to back up what they already know about you, and as I've said it probably did that. Again I don't think Oxford collect as much data as Cambridge, but the principle is probably similar. Basically don't worry, you and your application are more than the interview, so don't let it ruin your Christmas. (Also the Spanish interviewer probably genuinely didn't know whether you'd done your German interview, let alone how well you did in it. As someone who's worked as a student interview helper, let me reassure you that they're too busy to be chatting away on the day about how candidates did.)

Hey! Current History and Economics student at Worcester here. Sorry that you had two horrid interviews, it’s a really sucky experience. Don’t get too overwhelmed when thinking about how you did in them though, or about pooling decisions etc. I only had two interviews, and some people had loads and loads. So many of my friends had what they thought were ‘car crash’ interviews, especially those doing MFL, but they still got in. Interviews are only a part of what they use to make their final decisions, and they base it on GCSE grades, personal statement, essays, aptitude tests, teachers recommendations as well! Also, Worcester language tutors are pretty mean, from what friends say.

Ok eve I’m gnna put this out there. I worked my backside off when I was 15/16 in my GCSE’s to get the best marks and apply for the prestigious exclusive public boarding school in my town to do my a levels at so I could eventually go down the oxbridge path. I passed the entrance exam but didn’t actually get in because I had a serious health condition that meant I couldn’t do sport and participate fully in school life. I was a risk they weren’t prepared to take and I was heartbroken, especially since I was in hospital just woken up from brain surgery when my denial letter arrived and my dad came into the ward and told me 😂 it was crap day and I was absolutely heartbroken. I thought I wasn’t good enough. I went to college instead, and actually ended up having to drop out because I got so poorly. The lesson being, everything happens for a reason. I’m now 21, doing a fine art bachelors degree from home with the open college of the arts. Once I’m graduated I’m then going to apply to oxford to do my masters in literature and arts. Or maybe I’ll go to a local uni if it doesn’t happen. Maybe I’ll actually be happier there than in a more stressful academic environment where you constantly compare yourself to others. Wherever you go for uni, your degree will still be valid and you will work hard for it. Be proud of yourself. Sometimes your biggest dreams are the things that never actually end up happening and that’s ok. But still have hope. Still believe in yourself. I’m sending you huge hugs. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are amazing. Love. X

I went to LMH and work at Oriel now I've graduated (if you've seen any of Molly at Oxford's videos I pop up in a couple of them!). It's so difficult to tell how an interview actually went (no matter how good you think you are at assessing your own performance), and even so, it's not a yes/no thing: the university will still look very carefully at all of the other parts of your application. And yes - it is an amazing achievement no matter what the outcome, so give yourself some credit :-)

Even though it's not Oxford, the interview was horrible and they didn't refer to my personal statement or what I've done, only questions that they have to ask everyone which are stupid and did not let me get in what I wanted to! There was no discussion and I couldn't get anywhere with the conversation and I felt like they didn't consider me as an individual but only cared if I knew the answers to the questions. It was my top university too, but I realised after the interview that I just really didn't like the place anywhere because it didn't seem like they cared for each student. I was in Oxford last week for law interviews and don't worry they went absolutely horrifically (including me going to the wrong interview first and not realising until I was in there, being asked about someone else's personal statement (twice!), flung my pen at the tutors and above all, was flustering and had no idea what I or the tutors were talking about!!) However I had a lovely experience and the people were amazinggg, I have literally no chance of getting in after that train wreck but I'm becoming okay with that😊 so try not to worry at all, even the description of your german interview seemed actually okay! Eve, I don't know if this makes you feel any better but I had a very similar experience in cambridge in the past few days. One of the interviews went well but the other one was one of the most horrible experiences of my life - the interviewers were SO aggressive and hostile and somehow managed to make me doubt my whole value as a human being. As soon as I walked out I burst into tears - all of that preparation and passion completely down the drain :( needless to say my hopes of getting in are near nill now. I just think it helps when you know there are people who feel similarly! Only can wait now :( when do you find out? Xxx

I had an interview at Oriel College last week for History and I had the exact same thing where one interview went fairly well and the other I felt I'd let myself down in. Its so hard to tell how well you've done, I had both my interviews in the same day like you so I just let it go and spent the rest of my time enjoying the (beautiful) city. I'm sure you'll have done fantastically and reading into it isn't going to get you anywhere! Amazing achievement to even be interviewed. Best of luck to Eve and everyone who suffered Oxbridge interviews this last fortnight! Xx

Hey Eve, I had a German interview at Cambridge...literally spoke about the text I was given during the WHOLE interview! I felt comfortable with its meaning to an extent but it was not at all an area I felt knowledgeable about!! Don't feel bad about your interview!!
@amybrook53007 жыл бұрын
I know exactly how you feel - I was interviewed by the same people for German last year, and I promise you, your interview can't have gone worse than mine! I had to analyse a poem about Charles I facing up to his inevitable death and all I could say was that it was grim, and then I started bawling for the rest of the interview. Unfortunately I didn't get into Oxford and, all I want you to know, is that you can't let this experience destroy you. I know exactly how it feels to have years of aspiration flushed down the pan in minutes, but know that regardless of the outcome, this DOES NOT mean you are not clever or unworthy or whatever. I know I'm rambling here, but take it from me, I took my experience really badly at the time and it near destroyed my life. Whether you get in or not, you are still so so intelligent and inspiring to so many people. (Though I know you'll probably disregard all this, as I did a year ago haha)

I'm a first year studying French at Catz and thought both my interviews were terrible, but I still got in! I'm sure you did much better than you think, have everything crossed for you gal xxxxx

I interviewed for French and Spanish at Worcester and feel exactly the same as you about your German about my French !! Went horribly and I came out crying, I felt so stupid 🙄 it’s done now though and I’m sure you’ll still get an offer because you’re brill! Also spoke to a German and History undergrad at Worcester and she said she thought her German interview was the worst thing ever, the interviewer rolled his eyes and sighed at everything she said but still got in!! Good luck xxxxxxx

I love you so much eve, I’m doing my gcse mocks at the moment and my anxiety is through the roof and so this is giving me a much needed distraction. Someone from my school leaked our maths paper 2 and so we may all be getting 0’s which makes those of us applying for external 6th forms quite anxious about our math papers so that’s kinda stressful so this is giving me a much needed break so thanks xx love you eve xx
@allis46267 жыл бұрын
Chloe Reynolds honestly with the external sixth form thing I failed ALL of my mocks, and still applied to an external sixth form to do 4 alevels. Just explain your situation and they should give you the opportunity to better yourself in your exams :). After failing everyone one of my mock, I came out with 2 8’s, a 6, an A*, 3 A’s, 3 B’s and a C and I’m doing 4 a levels now! Please don’t let your anxiety control your success Xxxx

I had interviews for my course and after my first interview I was told that I didn't understand the true role of a social worker (my course was social work) and I literally cried the whole way home but I somehow still managed to get an offer. I'm sure you did better than you thought and don't rule out getting an offer!

I had an interview for Sheffield Hallam about a month ago now for primary education. For part of the interview we had to prepare s teaching task and the other people in my groups had lesson plans and resources and I did a 5 min lesson about Spanish verbs. Honestly was so disappointed in myself and thought I had completely fucked it. Lucky they got back to me a week later saying I had got a place! I know it's nothing like oxford or Cambridge but from interview experiences I've had it's shown me that if they see potential in you they're more likely to give you a place :)

Eve don't you worry about your interview! Often people can't tell how it went and you may not have known a lot but the interviewers know when they see enthusiasm and passion for the subject! I had my interviews for e&m at the same time as you and they were rubbish!! But I'm so glad I got an interview because it so bloody difficult. So well done! You got further than most :)💗

Awh Eve! Hopefully you're feeling better now :) Even though I go to uni in America and the interview process was a bit different, but I felt so dumb afterward. In my interview they GRILLED me about myself and the subject I wanted to study. They literally asked me what kind of bird I would be (I know, stupid question), but I literally said bat and bat isn't even a bird. I totally feel sounding unintelligent in interviews! Everything will pan out in the end just the way it's supposed to! :) Good luck girlie!

I feel so sorry for you! Revising hard, spending so much time on preparation and the not getting the chance to prove you are the right one to get in must be so disappointing. Especially, because everyone can see Oxford is your dream. And even worse must be the disappointment in yourself reflecting on the things you said in the interview that you now know better. Believe me, I would be gutted as well and I wish you luck that (despite your feeling) it went better than expected. In your videos you always seem so determined when it comed to revision and therefore you absolutely deserve to sudy at your dream uni! But don‘t be too sad by the way: No matter where you end up university life will be amazing studying what you love. I can assure you that by 100%. I am currently at university as well (in Germany) and also a German native speaker. So, just in case you need help with anything, please just let me know! ☘️

My brother tried for Cambridge but didn’t get in after his interview but he’s now at Durham and loves it - I really hope you do get in Oxford as it would be an amazing achievement but equally if you end up going to Durham just know it’s a brilliant university that’s still one of the top ones Also you should just be proud that you even got an interview - that’s brilliant in its self
