This is a video I put together as a supplement to my web site www.mypalmoe.com, which is dedicated to Moe Howard and the Three Stooges. During my teenage years, I would write to Moe in the late 1960's and early 1970's. He would always write back answering my questions and often sharing a story. I eventually had the pleasure of meeting Moe in person at his home in July of 1973.

You are absolutely correct Robert Graham that the younger generations do not know what they are missing not watching The Three Stooges! When I grew up during the 70's I could remember all that they showed was classic movies. I grew up watching The Three Stooges films when they would air them. It was after the mid 80's that I noticed programming began to change and they started to show the most recent movies on every network it seems like. I notice that AMC will show The Three Stooges short at like 4:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the morning. Then they will show paid programming on AMC. There are times where they might show a few shorts of The Three Stooges before a movie. IFC does the same thing as well.

I miss them all myself, but we have them in shorts that we can watch. I have the complete collection and when I bought it in DVD box set I sat down and started with Curly all the way until Joe. It is a shame that I did not get with the box set all of the Three Stooges films. That would have been great to watch!

My little brother was a huge Three Stooges fan. One day in 1967 he sent Moe a birthday card. I think he found out from a fan club his birthday and where to send the card but I wasn't really paying attention. A few weeks later Moe wrote him back and thanked him for the card. My brother still has that letter framed in his office to this day. My brother wrote several celebrities over the years. Moe was the only one who wrote back.

What I love about this video is that even at the end of his life, Moe was still playful and true to character by making the eye-gouging motion with his hand and two fingers for the camera. If that doesn't bring a smile to your face, then nothing could. I was born in '71 and grew up watching reruns of the Stooges late at night on WFLD (or maybe it was channel 50) in the Chicago area. Moe was already gone by the time I began watching them. And for Curly to have died in his early fifties was just tragic. When Curly was near death, he reportedly said to a friend, "I guess I won't be able to make the children laugh anymore."

This is beyond cool!, to have known, corresponded with, met, and spent such quality time with one of our nation's treasures, is beyond words. Bob, you must re-live these moments each and every day! Your friendship with Moe, must have been very important to him, especially during his twilight years. Virtually every American male born during the "Baby Boom Years", and shortly thereafter, owes you a debt of gratitude; because you were able to make Moe aware of just how very much the entertainment that he, his brothers, and in later years, Joe and Curly Joe provided, meant to us, and how very much we enjoyed our formative years, parked in front of our TV sets, just waiting to hear that ever-so-special "Three Blind Mice" intro was.

Nice video. About a real class act.. The legendary Moe Howard. I never had the pleasure of meeting Moe. But as a young girl I would faithfully watch the Stooges after school growing up in the late 60s and early 1970s. I grew up in the Hollywood area, and I actually lived in that same house 9061 Thrasher Avenue in LA. But it was at least 20 years after MO passed. Back in the Mid 1990s. I never knew he had lived their until recently. How surreal to actually be living in the same home Moe lived and not finding out till years later. Hmm. I wonder if any other celebrities had lived their before or after my residency. I now live in Massachusetts but I always have fond memories of California and the few years I lived there.

Thanks for sharing, this is excellent. What a great man Moe was. They were so larger than life it is hard to believe how short all of them were. And what a great opportunity for you to get to meet Moe at his house. In this day and age that would never happen.

A sweet remembrance video. I think I’ve seen you in other Stooges biographies, Bob. And maybe you were in that western movie they made. Sorry if I got it wrong.
