Fun fact: After the passing of his beloved little brother Jerome (Curly) Howard, Moe started to reenact some of his old antics. Notably his whooping noises and his grunting.

Based on what I've seen of his history, Moe is kind of a hard edge but loving man. He wasn't overly affectionate with any of his family including his wife and kids but he did clearly care about all of them. Even Larry his lifelong friend. When he passed after so many years Moe fell into a deep depression that eventually took his life. It was almost like he had lost his lifelong brother.

Moe even had to crossdress as a child, and toured with a Nearly All Girl Water Ballet Troupe in Long Island,NY during 1913-1914. Moe was Doted and Devoted to his family. He Treated Jerry like his Baby Brother, because he was. According to Joan Howard Mauer, Moe was a VERY loving father and was VERY devoted to Helen. Helen in fact, died just several months after Moe.

He was much more worried about the money and less worried about Curly’s health that he downright refused to accept the offer from the other two stooges to let him rest, which was a very bad move and would ultimately lead to Curly’s career-ending stroke. He only appeared in the three stooges short two times and for a short time. One was on “Hold that lion” where Curly played a role of a sleeping passenger with a derby hat and a nose clip. The other, which we don’t have footage on was on “Malice in the palace” where Curly played a role of a hot headed chef.

At 6:50 is the stunt where Moe didn't fall correctly and broke several ribs. You can see he didn't pull off the stunt fall and landed very hard on that pile of wood. His professionalism was of such a degree that he took a breath, stood up, and then after that slap to finish out the scene, he passed out.

Fast fact is Moe was actually injured more than any others. In the scene where Curly cuts the table he got his ribs broks. Also, in the scene with the water pump Moe was hospitalized. Larry got a fountain pen stuck in his forehead and a breakaway vase cut Shemp up pretty bad.

If not counting Ted Healy as a stooge (I don't know that history too well) then Technically Shemp would have been the 2nd Stooge, Moe was the first to be a Stooge originally working with Ted, Shemp came along next then Larry came in 3rd making Curly the 4th Stooge. Shemp just left before it was fully established for more film styles then came back when Curly passed away.

Shemp was the original 3d stooge until his untimely death. Curly stepped in his place to save the stooges

In 1946 Shemp returned to the act when Curly became too sick to continue. Curly died in 1952 and Shemp remained with the act until his death in 1955.

Curly Howard started having health problems by 1945 including hypertension and obesity. His drinking problems affected his health to and had a stroke in 1946 ending his career with The Three Stooges and had only appeared a few more times in cameos. His older brother Shemp came back to replace Curly. Curlys health continued to deteriorate and had more strokes before his death in 1952. Shemp Howard stayed on with The Stooges with his brother Moe and friend Larry Fine until his death in 1955 of a heart attack.
