My Paper Airplane Launcher is DANGEROUS

What happens when you use a 3000KV brushless motor to launch paper airplanes?
In this video, I explore that question with a 3D printed paper airplane launcher. Watch as I launch planes at speeds of over 100km/h (60mph) through balloons, fruit, and even glass??
I'm not gonna lie, I was scared of this thing every time I turned it on. 20,000 rpm is FAST when paired with mainly 3D printed parts. Engineering is fun, and I wanted to showcase that in this video. I hope you find it as enjoyable to watch as it was for me to film!

Huge thanks to ‪@ChronosCameras‬ for sending me their 2.1 High Speed camera to try out. All the super slow-mo shots in this video were shot on their camera. You can find more info here:

The first place my brain went after watching this was “sheet metal airplanes”.

I wonder if there's like a Bonneville salt flats but for paper airplanes, like an outdoor area that almost never gets wind, where the conditions for those distance flights are best.

I guess you fulfilled my childhood dream with this :D My suggestions on improvement would be more resin in contact point to increase friction , so it will be lees likely to skip turns on paper and transfer more energy) make these wheels heavier,so they would act like a flywheel storing it them more energy to transfer to paper and try more rigid paper for planes, for them to not deform with that crazy acceleration. Not sure if you are interested in V2, but thanks for evoking my fantasy such a boring day it was

These are great suggestions! V2 would definitely use some metal parts for the wheels, and more rigid paper for the planes would also be a huge help too. Happy to help make the day less boring!

Am I the only viewer who felt a pang of sympathy when that airplane crunched into the glass? Guess I've seen too many "bird rescued after flying into window glass" late night videos!

i guarantee you could actually get good outdoor results with this, you gotta use a real stable design and get the paper plane properly dialed in before you do it though, i would reccomend the nakamura lock

Maybe the rpm is too high for the outdoor test not allowing enough time for lift its shooting it rather then floating on the air like a plane

You’re probably on to something there, might be deforming the plane too much as well
