I've seen this story before, and there are details missing from this version, as if they had been omitted by an AI. The whole family HAD been told who the actual thief was. The cousin and uncle were just blaming OP out of habit. They both knew better, which of course made their comments worse. Also, the comment OP made about the cousin's boyfriends was because the cousin had been caught cheating before, and bringing it up made her cry, which is what made the uncle upset. I think the original story also explained how the thief had been kicked out of the house and moved in with the grandparents, which was a last ditch effort to set him straight. This version only told how that ended, with a totaled stolen truck.

@@cccpike Oh, Ok, thanks for filling hte missing sub-plots. I didn't get the cousin's comment comeback from OP because of all the missing information. As I understood it it could have been a remark on her body being flat and her BF saying it's missing something when comparing with his friends' GF.

They did teach OP a valuable lesson; that his egg and sperm donors were not parents except in a strictly biological sense. He should have gone NC as soon as he moved out. There is no way for them to make amends. There is no way to make it right. There is no way to fix it. If they were sincere they would have sent a message to the extended family revealing everything, gone NC with Liam and made a public apology for their abuse. It wouldn't fix anything, but without it there will never be reconciliation.

Also, the parents should have given him a PUBLIC apology to him in front of the whole family to set the record straight. But it looks like the parents are going to screw around with this "golden child" and lose their home. He may con them out of their home. They made the protagonists life hell, but covered for their golden child. The parents are the big problem here.

When I was 11 -12 years in the early 90’s I had saved up 350$ dollars. My mother helped me set up a savings account. Her second husband a got arrested for something and she used my savings. She never put the money back and closed my savings account. When I wanted to the bank with my grandmother to get money for a snes game, is how I found out my savings was gone. My grandmother lost it and went off on her is how I found out. Several months later she bought a radio that stayed at her house and her other kids ended breaking it. She thought we were even somehow. I got tired of waiting and never getting my money back took 5$ out of her purse. She made such a big deal out of it in front of her family that I became the scapegoat similar to the story. Things were always rocky afterwards and I stopped interacting with her side of the family. It’s been almost 25 plus years since and haven’t had a good relationship with her or money since.

When I was a kid many years ago, my mom got $14 stolen at work, or she lost it somehow. She didn't realize it was gone until that night after dinner. I was accused of stealing it, I didn't but I was accused anyway. They figured I got it as a joke, put the money in my pocket and lost it playing outside. I tried telling them I didn't get it, but they never believed me even later on after I was married and had kids. One evening, we were visiting and that $14 was brought up, and still my parents didn't believe that I didn't take it.
