I tried to tell my mom what her husband was doing to me. Instead they kicked me out at 17. Luckily for me my best friend’s family took me in. Stepdad died a month and a half after I graduated from high school. I rejoiced. She died from cancer when I was 19. I rejoiced. I got the best in-laws anyone could ever ask for. They were the best parents I ever had. I miss them terribly.

This was a story that kept my attention throughout. There are two gaps in this story that need filling. Firstly, why didn't Rachel tell her mother what her uncle was doing? Was he threatening her to make her keep quiet? If so, what was he threatening her with? Secondly, when did she tell her son, Matthew, about what her uncle did. From the conversation she had with him after going to her parents to tell them the truth, he said she was strong, which implied he knew, but it doesn't appear in the story. Did she sit him down to tell him? If so, how did he react? This is not a fully rounded story because of those two missing pieces. This was a good, though disturbing, story.

Good story but Denver has many programmes for homeless and low-income families, There are a few buses that go north-south and east-west for free. She could have gone to any number of homeless shelters and she would have been helped.
