A sad reality that there are really parents like the one described in this story. I hate these kinds of parents. I am a parent myself and thank God i have a good relationship with my children and grandchildren...respecting each other as a person who deserves respect.

After you graduate high school and college, your life is your own. If you have parents like this, tell them to sue you. The only thing people can do to you is that which you allow them to do to you.

But there's a lot of people whose parents have shattered their confidence so badly that to do more than consider leaving them is mentally impossible. I had to go through that until the first time Mom made me homeless. She didn't want me, she wanted a domestic. Which I practically was. So this story isn't as hard for me to believe as it would be for others.

@@Tarotlynx You sound like you have been able to overcome your Mom's disregard for you as her child. The reason I'm able to reject the manipulation from selfish people is because I, like you, was compliant for a long time until I became clear on what I was and wasn't going to allow anymore. Isn't it strange how much stronger we grow in adversity? You have my respect & admiration for being able to come out of your situation with such grace and understanding. Stay strong and beautiful Tarotlynx!

Ever heard of saying "HELL NAW!" Then in the end you found out what GrandMa did. And you put up with this for 30yrs?! They'd be giving my loot back. Then go NC!

These parents obviously don't know how to raise children.

Why didn't she tell them she made about 1/4 of her real salary? Smh.

Also, a perfect touch would have been if there was a rare first edition in the grandmother's books worth a fortune.

I was treated the same way as Nelly, except I was the youngest. My older brother was the "golden child". Anything he wanted - he got. Even if it meant taking what I earned and saved. I was just John - I didn't matter. I told my mother I wish she had let me die when I was an infant - she never loved or wanted me - she had my older brother - he was the only one she ever cared about.

I am sorry you were treated that way. Bad parenting is half the problem with the world today. I hope you were able to overcome your past
