Never forget how McGill rejected me when I applied in the 1990s. Told me I should consider another career other than medicine. The problem was I got accepted at U of Toronto, Queen's and Ottawa. (the only other medical schools I applied to). Several years later after also earning my PhD, McGill wanted our research group to give a talk there. Told them that if I wasn't good enough to go to your medical school I certainly wasn't coming there to talk to anyone.

@medwithmani Жыл бұрын
Sure, although I was a much different student back then. My overall average was probably around the 85 mark, but keep in mind, that was a student who never studied for his exams. The point is that if your grades are high, great! If they're not, it shouldn't be a reason for you to give up, especially in high school. Either you need to commit to your studies a little more or you need to optimize your study habits! I hope that helps!

Hey! Thank you, I appreciate it! The R score system has changed since I applied, and sec 5 grades are not relevant to med school applications, so I am afraid my grades would not be of any help! In high school, you want to get decent grades to ideally put you in a science program in CEGEP (I would say 85+ overall average, especially in math and sciences). In CEGEP, ideally your R score is above 34 for a shot at medicine. Hope this helps!

Inspiring story man. I’m really confused about some things right now. The medical school at McGill basically offers the MDCM program correct? Is it for high school graduates or do you NEED to have an undergraduate degree beforehand as is the case in the universities in the US? I’m getting really varied information on the internet which I can’t trust. Also, is French proficiency an admission prerequisite? I’m from india so when I looked up the website it says there are merely 2 seats for international students, that is indeed extremely competitive but I believe I can still get in, given high school graduates are eligible. Cheers🎉
@medwithmani7 ай бұрын
Hey! So yes, McGill offers an MDCM program, which is equivalent to a MD. High school graduates CANNOT get accepted. In Quebec, they must at least go through CEGEP first. As an international applicant, you must apply to an undergraduate program (i.e., a Bachelor of Science program), complete that and the program pre-requisite courses, and then you can be considered for one of the 2 international spots. I hope this helps clear some things.

Someone who gets in first try will get in straight out of CEGEP! For me, I completed my 2 years of CEGEP, then 3 years for my bachelor's degree (some people get in at this point), and then another 2 years of Master's. what was your course duration with honours thesis- 3 yrs or 4 years ?
@medwithmani2 жыл бұрын
I completed everything in 3 years, but that was only because I took a full course load (5 courses per semester). If you take 4 courses per semester, you would complete your degree in 4 years.

What is better - Bsc Biology or Bsc honours biology?
@medwithmani2 жыл бұрын
On paper, an honors degree is better, but you can do a regular degree with an honors thesis and it comes out to the same thing. That's what I did!

🙏🏻 Do i have to take exams before entering university for bachelor's degree, and if u know could u please say what kind of exams?:) Look forward to your answer:)

Not that I know of, but maybe it depends based on what bachelor degree you're applying for. For medicine, you'll most likely have to write the MCAT and the CASPer test at some point during your university studies, so you should look into them :)

Is it difficult to pass a year at mcgill?
@medwithmani2 жыл бұрын
Great question! I assume you're referring to medicine. It's not easy to do extremely well in med school, but passing should be very feasible as long as you organize your study schedule and do not fall behind!

How much does it cost to study at mcgill?
@medwithmani2 жыл бұрын
www.mcgill.ca/student-accounts/tuition-charges/fallwinter-term-tuition-and-fees/undergraduate-fees Depends what program you're interested in. For medicine, Quebec residents pay approximately $25k for the 4 years. This price increases for out of province and international students!
