I graduated from the U of T Medical School in the early 1990s. At that time there were 125 places with 2400+ applicants so the odds were still stacked against you then too. The best advice I can give anyone starting an undergraduate program in university and hoping to go to medical school is to do your undergraduate work at a smaller school (ie. Carleton, Guelph, Trent) as the likelihood is that you will be in a smaller class size and be able to get more 1 on 1 attention from your professors/teachers. When applying to medical school an "A" is an "A" no matter what school it comes from when your GPA is calculated. A larger school like U of T, Queens, or Western will have much larger class sizes and you know for certain that all your classmates will be trying to get into medical school too so the competition and pressure can be overwhelming. Also if you are determined to get into medical school and don't achieve that in your undergraduate years there is always the option of going on and doing a graduate degree (MSc/Ph.D.) and you will then be reassessed by medical schools by different criteria (your graduate school grades/papers you publish etc). And take part in activities/volunteering/causes etc during your undergraduate years to show perspective medical schools that you are "well rounded" as a person. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Congrats Nimit and thank you for sharing this. I have a few questions, if you don't mind: 1) which 3 universities interviewed you?...2) it was my understanding UofT Meds accepts after a 4 year degree undergrad---how did you get to apply after 3rd year?...3)When did you write the MCAT a 2nd time (sorry, I didn't catch that after you stated you weren't happy with your 1st score) Once again, congrats.

I graduated from high school in Norway and here we can directly apply to medical Education after high school. The qualification in Norway is that you need to choose science( subject like math, chemistry, biology and physics) as your elective subjects and you also have تو have high GPA from high school. The top GPA is 6 and lowest is 1 or 2. So to come into medical studies u have to get 7 out of 6, you may say how that would be possible? Well, you can collect points by going to a military for a year, one year in vocational school to special in biochemistry or sth like that. But is it true that for apply to medical school in Canada you need to have a bachelor degree in biochemistry or etc? Cuz in Europe you dont need any bachelor degree.. some place require biochemistry test, others don't and your high school GPA is enough.. Can you tell me how is it in Canada?

Is it better to to do a co-op program at UTSC as pre-med or a normal program? Does co-op negatively affect my chances of getting into a prestigious medical school? BTW, I am an international student.
@themedboys
@themedboys 8 ай бұрын
In our opinion, co-op does not negatively impact your chances of getting into medical school but we did the normal stream and found that we had more freedom in our schedule, which allowed us to pursue different activities/employment opportunities that ultimately helped us. With Co-op, you also graduate at a later date. Whether it’s better depends on your circumstances and you should always speak with an academic advisor to clarify

This was so inspirational. I have a query. I'd be really thankful if you could please reply. I am new immigrant to Canada from India. I came here in August, 2022 as a permanent resident via express entry. I hold a bachelor's and master's degree from India in Biochemistry (Hons.) I have been searching all over the internet to get information regarding my eligibility to give MCAT and get into med school. Am I eligible as a PR Canadian student who has Indian edicational background? Can you suggest any relevent sources where I can find more information regarding this? Thank you.
