What were your best & worst modelling experiences of 2024? Will they change what you do in 2025? Let me know in the comments below.....

It's a great pity about the Belvedere and several others of those in the Vintage Classic line. You're right, they're nostalgia builds and serve to reflect on how much more forgiving/less critical we were back then. Whilst I love the fact that the series exists, I think that Airfix needs to review the price point or offer bulk/subscription discounts to reflect their intrinsic quality.

I also have an N1 starfighter and thought it crazy there was a copyright stamp on the outside . . sigh

Kudos for using "All that glisters is not gold", instead of the usual (incorrect) "All that glitters is not gold". Well done.

The P.1127 was one of the first kits I made in the mid 70's. Great memories there. Maybe I need to pick one up and do it again.

Excellent video, and I like your precised "pros and cons" of each topic/model selected. Just to add a bit without unnecessary stirring, In one of FB groups (Weathered Models) I had a similar experience but as third party person, and I perfectly understand your point, sometimes the aproaching is miss understood and the feedback can be aggressive, here my case: I posted one of my dioramas, a 1/48 Abrams rolling on top of a Iraqi Mig 25, in general, the comments were very good (and overwhelming because of the quantity!) but there are always people that make comments just to hurt with no logical base or background, mostly out of context and incredibly non sense, however I decided to not do a payback comment, I felt that unhealthy to get angry for that, in that moment and context, but what I did was focus in answer all the possible technical stuff that other people asked ( excepticism is strong in the community), and even with different personal taste and ways to do, the feedback was 100% positive for all. The best part was the support from veterans and active soldiers that where there when the Abrams crushed the Mig, and they were many commenting considering that is a modeller's group!.

My worst of "24 was the 1/48 Italeri F-22. My best was meeting most of the KZbinrs i follow, like yourself, at Telford SMW and a couple of fellow viewers too. A great community we have here.

Enjoyed that Alex. The great thing about Airfix vintage classics is that you go into them with eyes fully wide open, but that Belvedere looked a mare. I've built most of them and in general my childhood was recaptured with a big smile. I'm pleased you had good things to say about the Gannet as it seemed to be a bit Marmite amongst modellers. Looking forward to more excellent content in 2025. Cheers

Thoroughly enjoyed watching/listening to that as I finished off building a kit (IBG Models 1/72 A9 Cruiser Tank - excellent model but dreadful instructions!). Wishing you all the best for 2025 - your shop, your channel, and your move! Finally, as you are always so honest with us, I have to tell you that my wife kept looking over my shoulder at the screen - when I asked why, she said that ''he sounds like such a nice bloke and I wanted to see what he looks like!''

Enjoyed the video so thanks for that Alex. While the paint videos left me behind on occasions I found them to be very enlightening. Consequently, I'm very much looking forward to your output in 2025. Happy New Year to you and best wishes for the future.

I very much like your list of the best and worse. I agree with you on what makes something great or terrible. I have had my builds go well or wrong too. One thing mentioned is my pet peeve, bad instructions. Poor illustrations, improper placements, wrong order of build and incorrect item number callouts are very frustrating and make a build pleasurable or a nightmare. My personal suggestion is that before a kit is finalized is to have an independent model maker (someone not a company employee) build the kit with the instructions and find those errors and make corrections BEFORE sending it out to the rest of us to suffer the pain! My second part is in the form of a question and an example. Which company does the best job of marking their sprues or frames? I have my thoughts, but I want a second opinion. I am currently building a 1/72 Edward kit and am having an annoying time. The frames are not marked (A,B, etc.) and every one of the numbers are small and have a sink mark in the middle of them. It makes it hard to read without a magnifying glass and twisting around them to get just the right light (especially the clear one). What are your thoughts? Thanks again for a good video and best wishes for the new year.

I think Airfix are doing a good job, because aside from labelling, the layout is important - I hate having an assembly build where I'm putting piece A1, B22, C43, E2, F44 and G12 together, and I have to hunt over 6 frames to locate everything. Airfix new tools set to lay out the frame in a logical order, so you are using pieces A1, A2, A3, A4, A5 & A6 in an assembly, and they're all next to each other - that helps facilitate the build. They're not the only one, but they're the one that springs to mind.

I was lucky , I only built 3 kits in 2024 hasegawa 1/48 Macchi. 1/16 das werk panzer 3 and Italeri 1/24 Escort RS 1800 MK2 & they were pretty good builds. I've only heard great things about the Gannet. Happy New Year to you also.

Bit of a shame about the Belvedere. You'd think Aiirfix could at least have updated the clear parts, and done something to prevent the warping.

My best of 2024 was the Airfix (Academy) 1/35 Panzer IV. It was my first serious attempt at armour. A great kit. My worst was a Revell 1/32 Messerschmitt BF 109 G-6. I had pieces missing, and it was a pig to build. Currently back on the WIP shelf.

You lightweight. It should be 25 projects in 25 hours for 2025 :) My highlight last year was getting pretty darned close to actually finishing a model kit. I did paint a solitary figure though. Mind you, it's only 1/48...

Border Models Instructions: You'd do better to throw them away and guess where stuff goes and how.. (Plus, they NEVER give any painting directions for ANY interior parts....) Like the exact opposite of what you expect in these times.

Was rather surprised by the Hobbyboss 1/72 Sea Hawk....not an aircraft that would be top of my list but it is an absloute joy to buld and a cracking little kit....even the decals were a joy to use unlike other hobby boss kits i have were the decals were crap.....the model is really growing on me

worst: AH-64 in 72nd by Tamiya (reboxed italeri) best: T-62 diorama the worst experience caused me to pay more attention to how old a kit is before i buy it.

Getting back into modelling after retiring I thought I'd try the Challenger 2 from Trumpeter. It was a difficult kit as it required so much effort to correct the various warps and unclear instructions. Almost put me off the hobby!

The video is this - kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2rXgaaEgsZqiM0 I don't have a link to the SMCG as it's a private group and wouldn't want to send anyone there who wasn't "ready" for it - it's not a very positive space. The original intent might have been good, but some of the contributors there are toxic in the extreme.

Airfix Bristol Belvedere was easily the worst experience of the year. It is a difficult kit to build and didn't give me that burst of nostalgia I was hoping for...the end result looks ok but I wouldn't build it again. My favourite kit of the year was the Airfix Apollo Saturn V. I remember building this as a child and I was super pleased with the result this time around.
