Emy, I have the aftermarket 3-slit ebonite feed and it changes it completely. I’d probably go 2-slit.
@Volkmannx8 ай бұрын
I read a lot about those feeds in forums and it looks like that most people recommend the 2-slit, the 3-slit being too much.
@pen.venture8 ай бұрын
You cannot imagine how helpful was this 🤝 I’m eyeing out the 3 slit and I was like “maybe a 4 slit can be what I’m looking for :))” - but in this case 2 will do just fine - I’m going to also make a video and do a before and after with the conclusions as well

If you want to try a different nib experience you should ask your friend to pick up an 823 with a waverly nib. It’s a different shape and ends up writing something closer to a medium fine line. It writes differently depending on angle and is a really interesting option

will check it up :D

If you want to try yet another different nib experience, you should invite your friend to get for you the 823 with the Waverly nib. This ends up writing differently than the typical nib depending on angle. It’s pretty interesting and for me closer to a medium-fine in the way it behaves

if ill have the chance to try one of those nibs ill be more thank happy to do a video on it :D

Maybe it’s about the ink (in my case Sailor inks) and/or the months of use, but my 823 with FA nib seems to be much wetter.
@pen.venture8 ай бұрын
This can be the case or I even heard that sometimes by pressing the times become a little bend and the distance in between tines is slightly wider - translating in a more wet inflow. At this moment I’m just trying to figure out if the “tuning” part included the narrowing of the point itself, If it did - as much wetness can be added - I’ll never run as wide as a normal untouched FA nib

Would it have made a difference if you decided to use the same black in to test both fountain pens? I wonder what would happen if Pilot decided to use ebonite feeds in the majority of their fountain pens? Thank you for sending the handwriting sample to my students. Take care.
@pen.venture8 ай бұрын
I don’t think so - since the gap in the at they behave is so so large, I don’t think they ever going to go with ebonite, even the Emperor which is a flagship 2k pen has a ABS feeder that is coated in urushi and not ebonite 🤝

Thanks Emy, I am hoping to purchase the Pilot custom heritage FA nib, so I have been doing some research by watching videos etc. I do calligraphy so I enjoy line variation in my every day writing. I saw one of your older videos recently, even though I am a long time subscriber of you using Leonardo Taurasi Vino ink, I loved it so much, and your lovely writing, so I will be ordering it from your shop soon. Happy Easter and stay well ❤

Thank you so much 🤗 the FA pilot and also the Pilot Falcon are the best tools for a calligrapher that is not shy of going outside the box and be open to more contemporary writing instruments and not only dip nibs

What adjustments did you do to your Medium nib in your 823? Comparing the line thickness from this video to the previous review video of the 823, it seems to me that in this video it writes a little bit thinner or less wet (which I personally prefer), I thought that the writing example from your previos 823 video looks a bit too thick or wet for a Japanese Medium.
@pen.venture8 ай бұрын
:D I dont think that is from adjustment - its just the flow hiccup with the valve open or shut, anyway y Medium nib 823 is much more wet than I've received it :D - I know that the Japanese nibs are by standard coming a bit tamed as for a flow, I find that for the way I like to write with them, I need some added flow

Hi, I' m interested in purchasing a Custom 823 but I'm not sure what size I want, I'm thinking between M and B. My "collection" is very small for the moment as I am a student, I own a Parker Jotter and an Urban Royal, both medium nibs and honestly I see a difference in thickness between them, I preffer the Jotter. I don't really like fine nibs, do you have any advice on what shoud I get?
@ianpoV-58 ай бұрын
Tried both and they are absolutely wonderful. Really smooth. I guess, it’s more of a question about your writing style and notebooks you’re using - for example, Medium nib will be much easier than Broad for a small Hobonichi grid size.
@pen.venture8 ай бұрын
We do have it on Pen Venture in smoke and black - as for nibs if you like to have something similar to a Parker I think the pilot medium adjusted by me to run a little wetter can be great, if you want to try something new, a Broad then

Retailers unite and demand color from Pilot! I have suspected you might have gotten hold of the blue one from Bungobox. Boy would I have been jealous 😅 Anyway, thank you!
@pen.venture8 ай бұрын
I think there will be a point where Pilot has to enter in the color area just because they need to keep up with Sailor - as far as the eye can see - Sailor is really doing wonders there 🙌🏻
