I want more of this please! Whenever I have a planty issue everyone and every site screams “you must be overwatering!” Which I know I’m not. Being able to diagnose what’s up with a plant is the bane of my existence.

I bought a honeysuckle fuchsia plant for 10 dollars from the local plant shop and I can't help but feel like they were laughing at me on my way out. I've been trying so hard to do right by this plant but it's been dropping leaves like The Fast and the Furious drops sequels. I don't know what it wants😭

Great tips! I had a very similar problem with my ficus and turned out my issue was too much sun! It was in a South East facing window which it loved in the Canadian winter, but once the sun became stronger in the spring a couple leaves started to turn yellow. I had to move it back from the window. Now it’s happy again!

Have you ever thought about potting up a bunch of your plants in the same soil/planter? From what I've been able to gather (read: I watched some documentaries when I was bored) plants communicate through their roots and can actually speak or shout at each other as well as help a distressed plant out with extra nutrients. This way it would be a lot easier to keep them healthy, especially if you also have some mushrooms helping them out.

I have a new green lucky shamrock(under a grow light)that is as big as a basketball. It's fantastic and blooms and grows new leaves constantly. My QUESTION is when do I take it out from the grow light to let it start it's journey into my closet for the winter hibernate? I'm assuming I can follow the same directions of care as your purple shamrock, I hope this is correct. Thanks Mr. Sheffield(I like calling you this) Peace.

I bought the moisture meter you advertise. At first it was pretty good. I was having a lot of fun and felt great knowing I was taking better care of my plants watering needs. This was until the other day. I was checking on one specific plant that I wanted to divide as a couple of friends wanted a piece of it. I gently took it out of the pot and the soil was completely waterlogged! I grabbed the moisture meter and checked and it still read dry! Unfortunately all the roots had turned to mush. I pinched all the tops off and thought I’d try to propagate them. Well there was just too much water in the stems and it just continued to rot further up the cuttings. This was a tradiscantia lilac I believe the type. I read the reviews of the meter after this happened and there were many that had the same basic problem. I am happy with my grow lights though that you advertise.

I have kept ficus for over 25 years I think it is root bound and maybe too much fertiliser as if u want it small(bonsai) you must give minimal to none if you want it to stay small and happy without growing out of its pot every 6months as they are vigorous growers

Great video. Very informative way to figure out what is going on with one’s plants. One of my plants (pony tail palm) has what looks like thrips but I don’t know. Rest of the plant is doing really well. Just some marks on some leaves. I know you can’t tell me what to do over KZbin. Wish you could.

My daughter in law has a dracena which had mostly half brown leaves. I repotted in damp but not wet potting soil with about 25% gritty mix. I made a cutting from my Fiddle Leaf Fig. . . I put it into a clear tall glass with water. I put it into a semi-sunny window. The roots are getting very good light as well as the leaves. The roots are yellowish-white and are coming in thick. I have read in the past that it is better to root cuttings in water in an opaque vessel and not put it into any sun. What is the correct procedure - and is it the same for all cuttings that are rooted in water? Thank you - USA. NJ. . .

@Superdudehatesmilk
@Superdudehatesmilk 3 ай бұрын
I use tap water with mine, but I let the water set for a couple days before I use it. You can also use the stuff for fish tanks that dechlorinates the water though. What works for me is keeping a 2 gallon bucket full of tap water on my back deck and I just water all my plants from it. Eventually rain water mixes in there and the plants seem to like it. But if you do decide to use tap water, just make sure you're giving it a good shower every once in a while to rinse away the salts. And keep it somewhere where it can get bright, indirect light if possible.

Hi Richard, thank you for bringing us along for some plant care. Could you give me some advice on grow lights? I have Sansi grow lights and grow bulbs, 10 Watt and 15 Watt respectively. Unfortunately, these lights give me a horrible headache and burning eyes, even when the lights are facing the wall! I contacted Sansi, but the lights aren't compatible with an external dimmer. Do you know of any decent grow lights that are dimmable? Thank you in advance! Pinstripe.
