Always tickles me when I see you using the hive tool as a spoon!! 😄

Thats awesome. From an engineering standpoint I don't think it would be much harder to automate the rest including a belt that carries it through a roller to flatten them out...looking forward to you getting the bees out of that shed! Thanks for the video sir!

That is awesome. Necessity is the mother of invention. Oh, you have some funny looking coffee spoons up there. I use mine as a hive tool! Ha, Ha, Ha!!

Somewhere there is a Tim Hortons missing 2,000 doughnut bags :) Reminds me of a commercial pasta maker we saw years ago in Chinatown. Minus the extrusion die. Brilliant timesaver! Speaking of pollen sub, Ian one of these days I'd love to hear what you attribute your low Nosema counts to. Keep on buzzing Stepp man.

That's friken ingenious! love it. And yea March is a pain, too cold to see my bees. But I've also been using it for some prep work. Building Nucs and hive bodies, purchased apivar... etc. I'd love to have a list of parts, and a more in depth look at how you built this :D

A little rubber belting on the mixer and you'll have a nice clean hopper in the end. I had considered a clay pug mill might be the ticket for making patty logs which could then be cut into uniform patties with a wire cutter, but I like the idea of pumping it directly into the sandwich bag. I haven't been able to find any of those bags, so I settled on just scooping my bulk mix directly onto the top bars. I then use the scoop to mash it down flat so the foamy will fit over it. That seems to be the easiest for me. Now I need to find me an inexpensive 20 qt mixer.

Love the entire setup! Can you maybe do a total cost breakdown for each patty? I know it has to be cheaper than buying that stuff, but how much cheaper?
@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog2 жыл бұрын
The biggest reason I do it is for cost recovery on labour. Whatever I save in mixing goes against the labour it took to mix it. Helps keep guys busy when not busy and out of my hair

Speaking pf Patty recipes. Will you be trying Randy Oliver's patty Recipe that's balanced using Leucine as a baseline and compare it to your own? Or will you modify it to cover the new balance of amino acids?

Oh yes, Randy’s work was a breath of fresh air, it makes so much sense. The original mix we used wasn’t far off, actually almost on the money

Have you ever tried or thought to use Spirulina in your pollen patty substitute? I've read a lot of interesting information about this and it seems it's really a good substitute. Dry or wet, apparently the bees like it. Thoughts?
