Great video Lyn!!! Sorry about those losses, had a few too, not so much from cold as other reasons. Yes, kitties love to do videos!!! Our cats just can't go without being in a video!! Lucy reminds me of our Twiggy calico peach paws!! Very similar!! We have had pretty good weather for a couple of weeks now. But mother nature is going to slap us in the face this weekend. Down to 32 Sunday night. Not supposed to last. We should be OK by the end of the month .lots of growth and flowers coming!!! Thanks for sharing Lyn!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to across the emerald isle, stay warm and have a nice day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!! ✌️💖🌵🍀🌻🌱🌾🥀🌿🌷💐🌴🌹🌳🪴🌸😃👍

Awwwww thats so wonderful that Lucy is like your Twiggy with the peach paws, awwwww I love these cuties haha, and they really do love to be in the vids, I have a funny feeling Lucy is going to be making quite a few appearances in the future haha, she is so friendly and almost like a dog in nature as she loves to have her belly rubbed, which is so unusual for a cat as they always hate to have their bellies touched haha, my past cats would claw me if I went any where near their fluffy bellies haha, thats fantastic you have had good weather the past couple of weeks, but brrrrr with just 32f on Sunday, this time of year is so up and down, we are having it quite mild during the day but still dropping way below average at night, I may have to water the very shrivelled young Trichocereus this weekend and some of the very shrivelled Opuntias, but will have to hold off watering the big cacti for a little bit longer, thanks so much Clyde for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Deb and all the pets and plants all lots of love and happiness and PEACE, LOVE, PLANTS and PLANT POWER to Morris Park for a terrific Thursday XXXX

The cold really did arrive extra early in December, especially after the very hot heatwaves in the Summer, and usually our Decembers are very mild in U.K and Ireland, so sorry you lost plants too Ziggy, thanks so much for letting me know about the Bordeaux mixture with the lime, as some cacti can't take lime and I will make sure not to use it on any of the sensitive ones, I am so happy to see the Chamaelobivia hybrids in bud, thanks so much Ziggy for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Irish sea for a wonderful afternoon XXXX

Hopefully some of those damaged cacti will come through and then they might have gained even more character. I hear you with the cold! I gave my succulent plants a rest up until two weeks ago, though they're indoors, but the cold and humidity near the windows frightens me. And the rust fungus too : ( It has made many victims this past year. The indoor cacti are perfectly fine with a long dry spell I've noticed. Even my Euphorbia. My Millii reacted with glorious new growth after the re-watering immediately : )

Thats fantastic you have watered your cacti again Anders, and I think I will be doing the same as a lot of the smaller Trichocereus are so wrinkled I don't know how long I can hold off watering, the days are quite sunny and it gets so hot in the polytunnel, I may have to give the smaller cacti and all the wrinkled ones a water this weekend and put the heater on at night, thanks so much Anders for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

Oh I dread the day I lose any of my cacti. I've lost plenty of tender succulents due to mealy bugs and underwatering. They just don't like me, lol. My prickly buddies like me tho, ha.

Its so gutting when we lose plants and Mealy bugs really are horrible little 'beasties' my Echeverias are always getting them as they love to hide in between the rosette leaves, thanks so much Marie for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX

Hi Lynn! I'm having a hard time with my Easter cactus!!!!👎 I'm not able to get it to bloom and I'm continuing to loose claves!👎Most of the past month it's been rough. It did well all year up until March! And only one store had Easter cactus this year for sale near Celina Texas. What do you make of this?💚

@@ellenhaben1217 Awwww so happy you was able to notice the Thrips, the funny thing is I never get them on my Christmas and Thanksgiving cacti only my Easter cacti, the little Thrip 'beasties' are such a pain as they are so minute but these thrips cause the clades to fall off and go yellow, WOW with 25 holiday cacti, thats incredible, so happy you love these cacti so much too, thanks so much Ellen for your awesome support and wishing you a fantastic plant powered Sunday XXXX

Sorry to hear you have more loses, but positive note looks like most are doing great with many buds. my Mammillaria matudae did not lose it buds so been flowering last few days, no new buds yet just the buds what been there for many months. might confused it by leaving heater on when days temps went up in the rest period. who knows but at least one flowering whats good. that one never flowered, one my original ones, but since started following your tips and adapting to the environment i keep them in it flowered every year since. others still not got to flower well not really, when i got then the first winter it flowered but the spider mite attack and no flowers since but it did effect 70% plus of the plant so recovery, other one flowered when i got it but did not flower last year but then had to save it so going to be a while till that one flower, others i think still to young or not a good size yet. hopefully this year i can trigger them in to flowering fingers crossed. the only other ones i lost a few of this year, bunny ear ones, they good one minute flopped over the next, quite strange as others did well. as ive started watering a week ago hopefully start seeing buds, gave them there first good water today last week a taste, but watching that weather forecast so i can put heater on for those cold nights. hopefully not long no more cold nights :)

Thats fantastic your Mammillaria matudae is flowering Steven, argh yes Spider mite is such a pest for our beloved cacti and my beautiful Rebutia perplexa got a bad case of spider mite a couple of years ago and it really knocked back the flowering for the past couple of years, thankfully its recovering now with new growth and the signs of very tiny buds YAY :-D so sorry to hear you lost plants too, my bunny ear Opuntias seem to have done the same too with being fine one minute and then flopped over and gone the next, I am hoping that I don't see any ore signs of cold damage appearing as cold damage doesn't always show up until a few weeks later, thats brilliant you have started watering, I will have to give my wrinkled cacti a watering this weekend too as they can't hold off without water any longer haha, thanks so much Steven for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday today XXXX

@@desertplantsofavalon it amazing how it can be weeks later then all sudden go bad very fast. im just going to take the extra cost if i need heat on for a few nights till summer finally arrives i will. im thinking with the spider mite, im just going to use a smoke bomb to wipe them out. it worked for upstairs as it filled half the house so use one in conservatory. think it give a good start growing season plus hopefully it get ones you cannot see like the furry hairy ones or lots fine spines. i went a thought i do one more tray, 8 different types a mix of Mammillaria, Rebutia, echinocereus, aylostera. between 5-30 seeds a pack so start prepping that soon. one thing for sure now need to start re organizing my cacti so get all get good light or most they can. lets keep our fingers crossed no more have late sign of cold damage. all i want is more sunny afternoons, best time day for both my cacti areas :)

Hey Lyn its been a while, especially after the pandemic. good to see a new video!!. I was wondering, just out of curiosity, when you have youre Ariocarpus indoors....what is the light cycle you use? for when youre using LED lights. how many hours on and off is what im wondering. Hope you are well.
@desertplantsofavalon
@desertplantsofavalon Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much :-D I hope you are keeping well too and looking forward to the growing season, I keep all my Ariocarpus in the polytunnel now, but when I had them indoors I would put the LED lights on for around 6 hours in Spring and 8 hours in Summer, and 4 hours in winter, but I had them close to a window where they was still getting some light, but if I was growing them away from a window or in a position with no window and in total shade then I would have them on for around 12 hours in Spring and 14 hours in Summer and 6 hours in winter, just enough to keep them topped up with light in winter, I would have the lights on for around the same time it was naturally light outside, and switch them off when it starts to go dark outside, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX
