Informative video. I always enjoy your videos and wait to see which hat you’ll be wearing! My question is at this time of year with water temperature rising will the fish be ok with just the air bubbles?
@ThePondAdvisor5 жыл бұрын
Yes, providing water changes are made. The bottom drain on this helps with removing the waste that sinks. As this koi pool / pond is so deep the water is cooler than a shallow fish pond.

Hi there. I don't have a leak in my liner but I do have a problem filling the pond to the very top. I have crazy paving around the edge I think water is seeping under the slabs, there must be small cracks in the render. Is there a way of filling all the way around the edge with a sealant perhaps?
@ThePondAdvisor Жыл бұрын
It’s hard but not impossible, if you have a rubber or plastic pond liner then it’s more complicated. Sealing mortar and pond liners is very hard. Couple of options to cover the gap or disguise so it’s more appealing. Or take up the paving and seal up behind the slabs
@outpost31737 Жыл бұрын
@@ThePondAdvisor That would be a major job. I'm going to drain the pond and render the inside at the top edge, that might do the trick. Thanks for the advice :)
@mikeparker8265 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! Thanks for all the inside, given on your channel! I've seen you using the Oase Aquamax pumps with an Aquascape skimmer. I've bought both as well but have some problems getting it installed. Could you tell me, how you install them properly? What additional parts do I have to buy?The Oase 2" pipe isn't flexible enought to connect the pump inside the skimmer with its wall. And there seems to be another problem. My Oase 2" pipe is a little bit smaller than the Aquascape 2" adaptors on the back of the skimmer. Doesn't really make sense to me.
@ThePondAdvisor5 жыл бұрын
We’re did you buy the aquascape skimmer from? Yes the fitting are totally different in the UK.
@mikeparker8265 жыл бұрын
@@ThePondAdvisor I bought the skimmer online from a hardware store chain. I didn't know it by then, but they sent me an older Version of the 1000 series, probably because they still had it in their warehouses. [face plate is inside the leaf basket]. I think its called the 2" slip bulkhead adapter if I'm not mistaken. Its inner diameter is around 62mm and my 2" Oase pipe is has around 57mm of outer diameter. So I basically have a lot of space in between both. Do you have any recommendations on how to solve this? Second problem would be the installation of the Oase Aquamax pump inside the skimmer. The Oase 2" pipe isn't flexible enough to be curved to the inner skimmer wall

When i moved into my house it had a nice sized pond but was only half full , the house had been rented for many years until i bought it so the pond was just left and had nothing apart from a few frogs in . I had a very small pond at my old house so a about 8 goldfish to put in it , so thought i will clean it out and fill back up no problem . Schoolboy error ! When i got up the next day only the deepest part of the pond had water in the rest was dry! I looked for a hole but never found one , so started again and re-lined it and cemented new rocks around as the original ones were just wedged ! Been fine ever since !

Sean meads multi Clear with stop blanket weed from growing. But to remove blanket weed off a bare liner without water covering it. Multi Clean might help you remove the weed or just use a new pot pad or dish cloth, abrasive pad, not the wire wool one or anything with chemicals.

The Pond Advisor no not yet, how do you do it?
@ThePondAdvisor4 жыл бұрын
darragh mcandrew which the pumps off on the pond apart from air, if you don’t have an air pump switch the pumps of at night. If the pond goes down, wait for it to stop at the level, if you need to remove the aquatic life then do so (most of the time the hole will be close to the top, so no need to remove anything).

Hiya Mark, I have a newly installed second hand pond (hard formed) and I think I have too much leaking possibly an inch over night. Its 2 inches down from spilling over the edge (I like it right up to the rim) so I will check again tomorrow as its level with a plant pot on the ledge at the moment. I placed different types of rocks around most of the ledge such as Cotswold stone among other types. I watched something that said put a bucket with 6 inches of water in it on the ledge, mark where the water level is on both sides and if the pond drops more than the bucket its definitely a leak. What do you think? Any views on this techniques. I have a pump going into a pressure filter going into a waterfall filter. The pump doesn't matter but I've checked the pressure filter and the joins are good so will check the waterfall filter connector next as that was a DIY job. Great stuff mate as always and tried to copy how you did it. doing the waterfall was brilliant for me (even traveled 20 odd miles as someone was selling a hollow log from a terrarium). I was stomping in the waterfall when doing it though so how tough are these liners? Cheers
@ThePondAdvisor4 жыл бұрын
I would do the 24 hour test. The bucket is no good. If it’s a big leak yes may be but if it’s small the bucket will not be effected by wind or rain, I have had pond go up when the bucket has not come up as much number of reasons. I will not go into it to avoid boredom. Is the Cotswold stone fish safe?
@jamesward35474 жыл бұрын
@@ThePondAdvisor OK thanks Mark I will check it over the weekend when I can concentrate on it and give it my undivided. I'm not sure if its pond safe or not to be honest I didn't know that it might not be. Its old stone from an old wall out of the rubble pile and not new for this specifically? Its probably been there in the wall around 50 odd years or more. The water is cloudy and has been for a week now so I put a couple of those "control sludge" tabs in. Ordered "Green Away" and a pond bomb to kick start the bacteria. There was a lot of mud flying around when I was fitting the pond but that should have settled after a couple of days shouldn't it? Also I've just thrown 15kg of Alfagrof in the waterfall filter (and taken my marine live rock out) . :)
@ThePondAdvisor4 жыл бұрын
James Ward ok live, rock is no good, Alf agog is ok until it gets covered then it’s the same as pebble. Add the bacteria but keep the green away out, don’t add chemicals, sit by the pond and work out what is wrong. Water loss and you adding water is adding chemicals and phosphates so you are going to have water quality issues. The stone may be a problem if it’s soft, we don’t recommend this type of stone. You might be lucky however
@jamesward35474 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark just to say thanks for the advice. Did everything you said but more importantly took a step back and just spent time with the pond. I found the leak in a buried 40mm pipe just coming out of the pond from the pump. Very small leak too. Made up now with it so thanks a lot :)
