I really like how the kit is geared toward helping new players and underprepared players! Also you can use dice to prop up elevated figurines and that can help with remembering exactly how they are. 1die = 10 or 20ft.
@FontofInspiration3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! My primary goal was to make a kit that could be useful at a convention when playing with new people. It helps get the game going faster when the GM has player aids the players can reference.
@3nertia2 жыл бұрын
Adding to that idea, you could even have the die itself represent how high up they are; 1=10 feet, 2=20 feet, etc.

Minimalist kit for the whole table: stack of index cards and a very slim pencil case (containing some pencil nubs, one for each, an eraser & sharpener, and 1 set of dice: 2d20, 1d12, 1d10, 1d8, 4d6, 1d4). You could pre-write basic actions on a couple of index cards to pass around.

This is actually really helpful for a beginner DM who wants to introduce the game to someone too. It isn't that hard to put together and isn't very intimidating. I'm probably going to design something for a 3D printer for the tokens, because that is a really clever idea.

My big suggestion would be to add a notepad to it, just a small and cheap one. It helps to keep track of some things physically as a just in case for things going wrong on your end and handing sheets to a player who asks is great for keeping them involved. It also lets you pass some notes to players if you don't want to let the other players know directly... 3x5 cards are another thing that's useful both for the notes and they have a lot of uses that keep popping up. Special status condition from a scenario, well, put it on a card for the players, having some computer issues, well, player and monster names on the cards for initiative, limited item the players have access to during the adventure only, put it on a card (Helps remind them that they have them so that they actually get used), players keep using spells that have marked effects, well, the cards work well for templates in a pinch... Of course, some basic templates for spell effects and the like tend to be very useful as well.

Excellent point! I keep a notepad handy with my adventure, so I forgot to mention it because it wasn't in the box.

Hi! We use rings from a bottle (the ring that is connecting the cap to the bottle). For marking conditions on the battle field. The colours are corresponding with the condoom cards we use. And to mark how high a player is flying we use a d4/d6. Each number x10. That is in case of certain spells or if a player loses its concentration and falls. Apologies for my English! But I hope it helps :) Loved the video btw❤ Greetings from Holland🌷🇳🇱

The Tokens from Sidequest TTM are brilliant. I always have them as part of my own GM Kit
@Jimalcoatl Жыл бұрын
My kit is very similar, except I use an Android tablet (Galaxy tab s8+), Paizo flip mats instead of the chessex mat, I just use Yugioh cards and card sleeves as backings for my custom cards, and instead of wet erase I use Korean liquid ink board markers. They work like dry erase but are refillable and don't stain. I also bring a small box of painted Heroquest and D&D board game minis because I like painting and want to show off my work. I also make sure to have a charged usb power bank. I once ran a campaign using nothing but dice, my phone, and some index card size mini white boards just to see if I could. It went ok, but it didn't flow as well as I like. I had to draw any visuals by hand, and paging through phone apps isn't great. I got it streamlined after two or three sessions, but it still wasn't ideal.

For that portable light, you can even add in a "Micro USB Male to USB Female adaptor" to use that light with your phone/tablet if no laptop is available. Better yet, a simple folding stand for your phone could work too. 🤦♂️ Specific colored dice to help new players. That is a perfect answer to a question nobody has been asking because it was so easy, it was over looked. Totally borrowing that idea. Those coin tokens are fantastic. I hope they're still available.

Could you please tell me which Meiho VS tackle box that is? EDIT: For anyone interested, after some guesswork and odering an incorrect VS-3010NDM, I'm fairly certain that it's a VS-3020NDDM. I don’t use tabletop materials, so my portable kit is simpler. All I need to DM is dice, a notebook, pencils, the DMG and MM, and a DM screen. A large coffee and some chips might also come in handy, but I play old school so the rest is improvised.

I recommend also having a handy little "mini character sheet" that you can write an action on in wet/dry erase, along with the modifier. the attacks are hard to find for new players, so having the default ones written out (ie, fire bolt, crossbow, crossbow with sneak attack, etc) on a small (maybe 3"x5" card) that you can hand to the player as a reference is good. if you do it double sided, the other side can be for spells, with "Spell Attack" and "Spell Save" written clearly, with little dots to fill in for spell slots. alternatively, have a half dozen of martial and half dozen of spellcaster, and have a space for character stats on the back (ie, hp, AC, and saves) for useful info in combat. I made a custom sheet for my pathfinder character, with the bardic inspiration, spell slots, hp, and found it worked really well to keep track of everything. it was in a plastic pocket, so I could do dry erase over it, filling bubbles at a long rest and wiping them off when they were used.

One thing I like about WoD and the storyteller system in general is that you don't need 5 different types of dice, its all done on a d10. I would immagine our storyteller going nuts with all those dice, the rest of the kit is really nice though, I will give a thought about that portable dice pad.

I stopped using DM's screen decades ago. I roll most everything in front of the players (with any hidden rolls under my hand). If they want to look at the adventure module, they can, they're only cheating themselves. There's no me vs them as a DM's screen would suggest. It's a team effort to advance the story.

11:57 "Tap the Icon" is actually a really good character name! 😄 1. I really like the multi-colored dice idea for noobs. 4:35 You could also use a die for showing elevation, d20 for example, in 5' or 10' increments, is up to 200' 10:11 I've been playing since the 80s, and I love that people still use pen and paper and real dice and still get together in groups to play. You can do everything digitally now, heck, you could play anywhere anytime with just your phone. But it doesn't compare to in-person, multi-sensory tabletop play. Not even VTT will change that. Also, to all you millennials and zoomers who grew up with this, screw you! Little bastards! (Sorry. I'm just super jealous!)
