I love that you say that it’s OK if folks like to buy fixed circular needles as they need them. A lot of times in the knitting community it feels like you’re not a real knitter if you don’t have an interchangeable set. Personally, I don’t like to have to think about the joins of interchangeable needles and checking them and making sure everything is good while I’m knitting. I’ve been burned a few times and I just prefer the relative safety of fixed circulars. I really like knitters pride, and haven’t tried a chiao goo yet. But after that endorsement, I think I’ll try them out. 😉 And as always, thanks for mentioning budget options as well! Your podcast is just… so lovely. 😁 Thank you for all the work you put into each time!

Hello, I hope you have tried Chiaogoo now. I love them, knitting is a real pleasure with good material. They knit all alone ☺️, so smooth. I don't like the knit pro /pride, the joint is not good, I'm disappointed with that. Have a nice day.

@@armellec.4101yes! I’ve been knitting on straight needles for a year. 😅 treated myself to an interchangeable chiaogoo set and it’s like driving a Ferrari. Honestly couldn’t be happier. Tho if you need the 2.5mm needle you have to buy a mini cable. Both not included in set and was incidentally the first needle I reached for when I went to cast on my first sock. I went for a jumper instead only to find out that I needed a 2.5mm for the ribbing. So, swatching with 3.25mm whilst I await the additions to my new little needle family. Totally worth the money. Promise. I saved for them for a year. So I get they are pricey. But worth the wait and a few less coffees out. 😂🎉

I invested in a knitters pride interchangeable set of bamboo needles really early on when I started knitting and I have not regretted it. I think they may have changed the policy but they have replaced two sets of needles for me for free under a lifetime warranty! One because the connector broke and another because the needle broke.

I've been a crocheter for over 10 years and wanted to get into knitting... decided to go all in and get Chiaogoos for my first set of needles. Felt like if I got the best needles I wouldn't have to get any more in the future Also, it's crazy how the amount of contact knitting needles have with the yarn and your hand make needle preference so complicated. Not the same with crochet hooks. I've been using the same cheapo aluminum set for over 5 years now.

I’m a tried and true Addi loyalist after knitting for more than 30 years and trying most of the other brands. The feel of the smooth tips just makes the process of knitting more enjoyable. Seems I’m in the minority here, lol! Though I do agree the ChiaoGoo cables may be superior. But for the overall knitting experience, Addi still rules in my book!

Like many others here, I too enjoy the chiagoo "red" fixed circular needles ... but I always try to get the longest cable as possible for whatever size I need. I discovered magic loop/traveling loop knitting a couple decades ago, but the stiffness and twisty memory-holding of the cables I was able to get at that time made that form of knitting less appealing. My first time with a 100 cm cabled 3 mm needle pair, and I was in LOVE! I STORMED through 18 pairs of socks using magic loop, and it was effortless! No fighting errant twists and curves, no need to dip the cables in hot water only to have the memory return just days later, and the sheer beautiful smoothness of the tips let me race through what would normally have been very boring, dull, but necessary projects. So needless to say I now ALWAYS purchase Chiagoo fixed circulars despite how much more they may be than other brands. To me they are worth it!

On a funny note, I have a really cheap set that are similar to the Lion Brand. They really look like bamboo skewers with plastic tubes. I grabbed one while waiting for some Chiaogoos to arrive. They turned out to be delightful to work with...who knew? Thanks for the walk through your needle collection Tayler.

I went through many needles fixed and interchangeable and now I have my ChiaGoo red twist interchangeable set for ALL my knitting needs. I bought the small set, later added the mini set, and have bought large tips as needed. I have rounded out my set with varying lengths of red twist cables, connectors, and adapters and I can knit ANYTHING. I love the sharp tips, the surgical steel, the smooth joins, and the wonderful cables. I don’t like knitting with bulky yarn so that isn’t an issue for me, but you can use adapters to go from the large red twist cables down to the smaller, more supple cables. Some of the coatings on the nickel plated Knit Picks needles and some Addie’s chipped off, and the cables start to break at the join. But the ChiaGoo remain perfect. I did love the knit picks wooden needles back in the day when the tips were really sharp, but hated fighting their cables. So ChiaGoo have been the ones for me.

I do agree with the recommendations Tayler made in this video! If you are looking for an interchangeable circular set that won’t break the bank and you prefer sharper tips, I got the Knit Picks Options and I really love them! They are wood, but they have a slicker surface than some other wood needles I’ve tried in the past. I thought I was a metal only needle fan, but they changed my mind. For comparison, I tried the Knitter’s Pride Zing interchangeables before and I thought the tips were too blunt.

I'd add Lantern Moon for wood needles. The cord is similar to Chiaogoo. Also, good to know that Chiaogoo has amazing customer service. If something breaks or doesn't work correctly, they will replace it for free. It was so easy to have them replace some tips that came with my mini set and didn't fit correctly into the cable. I got it within a few days.

Prym Circular Brass - I recently needed a 4mm 16” circular, and I’ve enjoyed ChiaoGoo, but wanted to try another option. This Prym brass needle has been a tremendous pleasure to knit with -very slick, smooth, light, just the right amount of pointiness, very smooth join. The stitches slide easily/effortlessly. The short cable doesn’t tell me a whole lot about cable flexibility, but I do have other, longer Pryms (with synthetic ergonomic tips) that have very nice cables. I am really loving these needles, and can highly recommend.

@katpraeuner9794 Жыл бұрын
I have the foursquare interchangeable set and love them. I also have several of the other sets. I can't keep the stitches on a metal needle, so wood is my go to. Square, light, dark, swirls... lol I purchased the Chaiogoo small set in bamboo and the joins for the smaller sizes suck; also the cords are not anything like what I thought - they are not red but clear plastic. I have decided I prefer fixed for socks and I have collected these for years. I seldom use the addi's cause they are metal but knitters pride fixed are perfect for me in the wood. I bought a mindful set and tried them, way too slippery for me. I went with interchangeable because they are so versatile and take up very little space.

@Ss-dz6cm Жыл бұрын
I have 2 sets with swivel cables. Knitters pride mindful things has both fixed and swivel. And I have the Chiaogoo forte set with the new swivel cables. I hate them! Especially the forte set. Something about that swivel makes the yarn snag so bad at the joins. It wasn't so bad on worsted weight yarn, but dk was still annoying and fingering weight impossible! I switched them out with the red cables and love that set now. I would try one before you buy. I do love the flexibility of the swivel cable. It is better for magic looping if only I wasn't fighting to get yarn over the join. Of note, I am neither a tight nor loose knitter. Exactly average.

I’ve tried their latest spin swivel cords believing their marketing that they were improved from the original spin cables but found I was not happy with them. They snag the yarn at the swivel point so have wasted my money.

I love Chiaogoo's Swivel 360 cables but yes, the snag is real, with certain yarns. Its not as dramatic as some make it out to be with sport yarn. I have found that light fingering, lace weight yarns run the biggest risk of snagging so the connections need to be super tight, or use a different type of needle, like Lykke fixed circulars. The Swivel 360 cables are super delicate, super light, lighter than red cables which I love for large projects and enables me to knit super fast. Everyone's experience will be different though, so u just have to try different needles. I dont like Addi because the tips are too blunt for my taste. Addi is great for beginners

My mother bequethed me her set of 1960s steel cable needles, ive never come across a modern set where the cable is steel as well as the tip. I also have a set of all plastic circulars which came free with a magazine, are probably made very cheaply in China, but are perfect for straight knitting as the cable is thicker so stitches do not distort if you knight tightly.

I honestly love Prym ergonomic needles. I do feel safer with metal needles when I get to smaller needle sizes, but Prym have seemed to hold up and I feel like I have more control. Excellent resource, thank you. One of my local LYS had a great idea: a needle swap. People brought their old, unloved needles and for free you could “shop” the table and pick up something you liked or were curious about. I gladly liberated my Clover bamboo needles that possessed cables you could fix tires with and would never relax. Within half an hour they were gone and another knitter was happy. I’m curious about Chiao Goo lace interchangeables. Any thoughts? Also, I have spent silly money on needles but was very pleased to discover Susan Bates metal needles that possess beautiful Goldilocks tips. Dreamz are a top fave too. Thanks again!

Hello, love your videos. I have my coffee while you drink your tea and we talk knitting. My preference is fixed all the way and I make no apologies for it. I just don't feel the industry has created an interchangable set that is reliable. My go to and frankly the maker that changed knitting for me is Addi. Truly my all time favorite and i have a bunch of different sizes with assortment of cables. My only complaint is the priniting wears off the cable after using them and you are left without a printed size. Very small issue frankly because the needle themselves are amazing. Thank you for the chat, look forward to more. 😄

Love how informative this video is! I started with Boye circulars, then upgraded to Clover Bamboo. But my current favorite is Knitter’s Pride Dreamz. For small gauge or magic loop, it is ChiaoGoo Red Lace. I could not find a 2.25mm in the ChiaoGoo, and ended up buying Knitter’s Pride Zing. I recently needed that size for magic loop, and I did not enjoy the Zings at all. The join was not good. Luckily, a yarn store near me had the 2.25mm I needed in ChiaoGoo. It made the project so much more enjoyable.

I have 3 sets of different Knitters Pride needles. I first bought the acrylic set because I wanted to be sure I liked circular needles. They're not great but they got me knitting again. I thought I hated knitting because I learned on straight needles and that hurt my wrists. Then I invested in the Ginger set of interchangeable and that was a gamechanger! I love them! They're a wood set and they are so smooth!!! They came with a pattern holder built into the case and a matching pen! Not too much of an investment compared to some brands, they were $90. Then Hobby Lobby put a ton of needles on sale and I got the entire bamboo collection for $0.50 a piece! They're a little more grippy than the wood, but still pretty nice. A great backup set! I just got swivel cables from the Mindful collection and they are so nice with the wood set of needles! I would love to try some Chiagoo or Lyyke eventually though! Thanks for sharing Tayler!

I really wanted to try the Chiagoo red lace needles and got an opportunity to them finally. I ended up getting a 3mm fixed circular knitting needle that was 47" long. I know, long, but my reasoning was for 2 at a time socks and for whenever a pattern calls for 3mm sized ribbing. I was amazed at the cord as soon as I opened it and the needles themselves are extremely light. Much lighter than what I thought they'd be.

I love my KnitPicks Majestic Wood Foursquare interchangeable. I appreciate the warmth of the wood, I find the square needle easier to hold and the amount of slip/grip is just right for me. I knit everything on a circular needle as I find it really helps with wrist pain and hand fatigue. HOWEVER I needed a US1.5 circular needle and bought a Chiaogoo fixed lace needle for Magic Loop and I do really enjoy them! For such a small diameter needle I found the super flexible cable so easy to work with. Since I wasn’t fighting the cable I was able to knit indefinitely without fatigue. The size 4 KnitPicks gave me much greater issue with that as the KnitPick cables, as you said, do have a bit more memory to them. I don’t regret my KnitPicks at all - they have been great with such smooth joins - and will purchase Chiaogoo as needed for smaller needles.

I recently purchased the Chiagoo Forte set which was a mighty investment! The key attraction to these needles is the swivel metal cord. I must admit there were some problems with one cord in which the screw in part was blocked and they also packed the wrong size smaller needles but their warranty process was excellent. I don't regret spending this much but do think there are many other options that are just as good.

My needle preferences can be based on so many things. I have a selection of fixed and interchangeables in Addi, ChiaoGoo, Susan Bates, Takumi bamboo, Prym (ugh, why do I have so many?!). I seem to gravitate to different needles based on the yarn more than anything. I'll use bamboo for slippery or thin yarn, Addis for yarn that's thicker or more rustic. I'm usually only on one project at time, so all my needles are pretty much available, but sometimes I end up with multiple WIPs and "have" to drag out needles I don't use very often. And then I love them, too!

My fave go to knitting needles are knitter's pride mindful collection 360° interchangeables.....lace tip. Love them

I happened to try Kollage Square needles and am amazed at how comfortable they are and how much they reduce hand fatigue. Be aware that square needles can affect gauge. I always have to size up when using square needles and have seen other reviewers saying the same.

The Lion Brand Bamboo were my favorite needles (my budget is a Walmart/clearance kinda budget) until the tubing cracked. I guess the sweater I was knitting was a bit on the heavyweight side. The good news is that I was able to cut off the damaged part and use some superglue to reattach the tubing to the needle! 🎉 They are still one of my favorites!!

I like 9" circulars for one thing-knitting socks. Would probably like them for mittens, too, but I never knit mittens with thin yarn. The trick with 9 inch circulars is to relax your hand.

Hello. Will you do a podcast on your needle storage solution? How you organize your needles using the storage solution. Are they hanging by needle size? Cable size? Do you need more than one to hold all of your needles? Where did you get the hanger? Thank you.

I used Lykke but found they aren’t pointy enough. I’ve found Knitters Pride Dreams to have the best points. I,ve knit for 60 years and have them all. Lol.

I’m an addi and clover and now love my short knitters pride interchangeable with the 360 swivel rock. Also use the cable with my Tunisian crochet

I also LOVE ChiaoGoo! LOVE LOVE LOVE the tips & the coated wire cables! I was very disappointed with the cables on Hiya Hiya & recently have had the opportunity to try some Addis that have come with a few kits i've purchased. The tips could be sharper, but i do like the square shape of the Rocket2's & the cables aren't terrible, but definitely, ChiaoGoo is my go-to!

I love Lykke needles but hate their cords so… when I got the interchangeable set of Lykke driftwood, I also bought a set of cords from Knitter’s Pride Mindful collection, which is the same kind as chiaogoo cords. I now have the best of both worlds

I am also in love with the Chaio Goo circs! The ones with the bent metal tip are wonderful for hats.

Enjoy going back and watching your videos from bed discovering you. I bought the Knitters Pride Dreamz Tunisian hooks last year so I knew I’d love the knitting ones for beginning. I love how they hold the yarn for newbies rather than slipping on metal. So much easier to learn. Definitely love the chiaogoo fixed I have too. I just bought the metal Knitters pride interchangeable Zings now that I understand there’s not a universal perfect needle. You’re so right. So many factors come into play with deciding which to use. I understand now why grandma and mom had boxes of needles.

I am very much an interchangeable needle fan. With that said I'm not sure I have a favorite needle. I have many knitters pride metal needles, they work great. Have a few cubiks and they do seem to lessen hand stress. But on a recent trip to Jimmy Beans shop I found my absolute favorite cords. Lantern Moon swivels! The swivel makes all the difference. I no longer get caught up in the twisty cords and they are just lovely.

Chiaogoo are my go to metal needles but I absolutely adore my seeknit koshitsu needles. The bamboo is smooth and the free spinning cable is wonderful

Hi! Excellent video. Just a comment about the large ChiaoGoo needles you can purchase an adapter so you can knit with the small cable as well.

Yup Chiago Red Lace all the way. circular and interchangeable. I have yet to find a wooden one with a cable I love. This company has an incredible replacement policy if one breaks--I have only had one from the dozens I own. Lyka are close in a pinch

Love my ChiaoGoo’s. I have 2 interchangeable sets as well as many fixed. Love my Addi’s. Have the Turbo and Rocket sets as well as many fixed. Same with Knitters Pride Nova Platina and Dreamz. Some of the Platina’s tip are a bit too pointy for me and can actually hurt me but boy are they ever slick! Won a set of Day and Nite which are really nice. Very smooth wood. Knit picks make a nice set as well. Great video. 😊

I agree fix needles little expensive but if you knit garments you can get lot more use for one or two size cable length Great information Namaste

I love my Chiaogoo interchangeable sets, I have a 4 inch tip full set, as well as the shorties in the blue case. However, I do hate those beefy cables for the larger size needles, so I buy the adapters to screw between the needle base and the cable, so I can use the thinner cables. I don’t typically buy fixed needles, but I did order a set of metal fixed circulars from Wish a couple years ago that have bends in the needles (curves after the join) and, honestly, I kind of love them. They have very Chiaogoo-esque cords.

I love my ChiaoGoo set, they were my first set of interchangeables and are what I use 99% of the time. Recently used an Addi fixed circular needle and had forgotten how nice those feel too.

I also prefer Chiagoo, especially for lace. I cannot use their interchangeable set because the connection gets unwound for me, but I've heard the newer sets come with a rotatable connection to the cables so it may be time to try them again. My current interchangeable set of choice is the Addi lace set, but the connection can be a bit snaggy. When I'm doing a lace project or working with yarn that snags, I'll get the Chiagoo fixed for the project if I don't already have it.

I had a hard time with metal needles when I first started, and options in my town are limited. I started using clover because it’s the main brand they have here for wooden needles at Joann’s. Love them! Got the interchangeable set with a coupon for like $75 and have been set for anything I’ve needed!

I know you weren't talking about interchangeable needles on this video. I recently was informed that Knitters Pride has come out with a line of interchangeable cables with a steel braded core in the Mindful collection that are similar to chiaogoo's cables. they are not quite as flexible but close. My go to wood needles are Knit picks (which are interchangeable with knitters pride) and metal needles are chiaogoo

I've been using the interchangeable set from knitters' pride (knit pro in Europe) for years! But I got my mom some 2mm chiaogoo interchangeables, and they're lovely.

I knit lace, currently i am using a us1.5 / 2.5mm lykee circular needles and i ABSOLUTELY love them. I am paranoid about dropping stitches cuz i am rather new to this and these r the perfect combo of slick but friction. They r perfect. Would deff recommend.

I use ChiaoGoo for my socks magic loop and love them. I also have the lykke interchangeable needles. I am getting ready to sell them. I love the needles but I don’t like the connection and I also agree that their cables are too stiff for my liking. Excellent video! Loved the information.

I haven't been knitting for too long so I tried several knitpro (knitters pride) interchangeable tips, but quickly I gravitated towards Addis Novel needles so now I buy only those. I wanted to try Chiaogoos and Haya Haya also, but the price always deterrs me as they are anywhere between two thirds to twice as expensive as the Addi in any given category...
