I found the best combo is the Dexcom G6 and the Tandem X2 slim. Also if you have an issue with the Dexcom sensor/transmitter, make sure to tell Dexcom that the sensor is on your abdomen or there will be issues with Dexcom giving you warranty.

I am in Arizona, USA and have been researching CGM devices. This was an awesome video - well planned, presented, and informative. I do not have diabetes, however; hyperinsulinemia is a complication I have developed as a result of gastric bypass surgery in 1993. I have had many scary BS drops in the last few years - as low as 20mg/dL (about 1.1mmol/L using a conversion chart I keep handy) and our medical insurance approved the Dexcom 6 without hesitation. Sometimes I feel a drop coming on, but more often I get no warning at all until I am suddenly facing a crisis. I am a 69 year old retiree with orthopedic/mobility issues (4 full artificial joints and counting) and fibromyalgia so I am carefully considering where to place my Dexcom. You gave me plenty of food for thought about picking the areas with the fewest drawbacks. My husband will be picking my system up this afternoon and I am going to set alarms to help me avoid those awfully deep lows. Thanks again for sharing your experiences.

@@JenGrieves !! The 670 G is ok but the sensors are very finicky. It's slow to drop insulin when going down as well as slow to give updates when going up to do a correction. I am thinking about changing to the Dexcom G6 sensor with slim x2 pump. Need to do more homework. How long have you had the omnipod?

i wear libre sensor at back of arm on top of which i have blucon nightrider which converts it into continous monitoring device. I feel most comfortable at back of arm and rest places are very discomforting

The omnipod dash 5 which I am on has to be about to "see" the dexcom so it makes it much harder to choose especially being a side sleeper. I've only been on it for 2 years and have visual scars now. I'm going to ask my Doctor if I can go back to shots but keep the dexcom.

Omnipod AND Dexcomsites: front of top leg (positioned to avoid stuff in pants pockets or under and behind the arm. Sometimes on the stomach but gotta be careful not to hit a blood vessel. It leaves a crazy hematomaish bruise if you do.

I wear my Dexcom g6 so far in 2 places. 1.) the outside upper arm with the arm down, and 2.0 the left side of my belly from about 3 " left of the belly button to the left side. On the right side of the belly I have the canulla of my medtronic 630 pump. I keep it above the waistline of my jeans to the right of the belly button and around to the right side also. Occasionally, i will place it below the waist line. on the right side of the abdomen. I do have more a possibility of no deliveries there though. This is probably because of 15 years for 3x daily injection pens, so there is probably some scarring in the area. I look forward to trying some of your areas. Thanks sor the tips.

Love your videos. When I was looking at a pump three years ago watching your first review of the Omnipod really helped guide my choice and made me feel more confident about having something attached to my body. Anyway been using it since and still loving it! Have tried all the sites you mention. Arm in winter and for yoga (other areas hurt with some floor positions), tummy and lower back in summer and also use under the bra strap - especially useful for evening/swim wear. Interestingly tried it on leg for first time during lockdown - gotta have something to keep me entertained. Not totally convinced but if it preserves my other sites for better days then will persevere x

I'm super nervous about where to place it so it doesn't get bumped or pulled off by my 18 month old. The under arm spot may just be the spot for me!

Me too. I asked about getting a pump from my GP last year. After seeing Theresa May saying anyone can get one on the NHS and because I’ve replaced my insulin pens myself many times over the past decade and a bit. They flat out refused. If given an opportunity to switch take it. The inconvenience of picking sites is surely nothing compared to manual monitoring, Excel spreadsheets or manually inputting blood glucose readings into an app, having fingers as if you’re a sewist, or hoping any toilet you need to use to shoot up in isn’t some disgusting urine soaked dystopian nightmare.

Thank you for this video. 29+ year T1D here. Bad control for 25 years. I got the Libre 18 months ago and my blood sugars are as good as they have been in over 25 years. My last a1c was 6.8 which for me is amazing! I was 10+ before getting a CGM. I just received a letter from my insurance stating they will no longer cover the Libre but they will the Dexcom system. I am glad to see you can use the back of your arm as I love that with the Libre. Thank you for this video! I do have one question. How do you compare the accuracy of the back of your arm vs your stomach with regards to your actual blood sugar if you do a finger stick to test. I still take injections in my stomach area and I have some scarring from my years injecting around the same areas. Again, THANK YOU!

Hi Jen. Just discovered you while doing G6 research and thank you! thank you! thank you! I’ve been type 1 diabetic for 43 years and Medtronic pump user for 21 years. I switched to Omnipod 7 weeks ago and so far so good. I love the freedom of no tube, however, am a bit frustrated figuring out where best to where my Pod. I’ve been staying away from my tummy as that’s where my Medtronic tube was inserted for 20+ years. The back of my arms seem to be working best so far, albeit one run in with the edge of a door resulting in the Pod coming off. I really liked seeing you use an “unofficial” site...gives me confidence to play around a bit “outside the box” and will be trying your suggested site next! Also, I will be starting Dexcom G6 shortly (was very hesitant due to bad experience when CGM’s were first available years back) and after watching you and a couple of other G6 user videos, am very excited to get started and give my calloused finger tips a break!! Thankyou Jen, I am still on multiply injections. I thought about taking the plunge and try the pump, and the omnipod was the one that appealed to me. More free without tubing and other stuff. But in Australia not on our ndss . However the freestyle libre has just been approved, have been using these for 2 and a half years, so now free, they has been great, no more sore fingers for quite a while. I wear it on the back of the arm like your Decom . I knocked a couple of them off when I had them on the side of my arm.

Do you have to fund your pumps too or are they provided by Medicare? I'm always curious as to how other countries operate - we have a very fractured system here that varies by region which can be a little difficult, but I'm very grateful to have the access I have. @@JenGrieves hi Jen, Insulin pumps are only provided to children up to 18 to families on low income. Private health funds depending what level of cover will help with some of the cost. My health fund would help but not for omnipod. Up till now , my health fund have given me $1000 per year towards the free style libre, so they payed about 5 months of the year. So it has been a blessing to now get it for free. How does it work with the NHS ? As you said it depends where you are. Stay safe, Rex

Thank you for sharing the info. Been diagnosed since 2006. Resisted the technology until today. Starting the dexcom. Not ready for the pump. Maybe later. My issue is that I do Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as my hobby/exercise. Not too many areas of my body are 'hands off', or don't have 270lb guys applying alot of pressure. I'm trying out the dexcom on my inner arm. Hope it goes well.

What part hurts? The insertion? Ask your doctor about something called ethyl choloride. I have used it for years for pump changes, and it is a game changer.

Before I was told about it, I would literally have to lay down for a couple hours after pump change because it hurt so bad. I will say, though, that my pump trainer had taught me wrong and that I am a super weinie. But I love my numbing spray.

Thank you SO much for this video. I just purchased the dexcom G6 because my insurance won't cover my libre anymore. I didn't want to get this because it's so much more complex but knowing that it is now approved to wear on your arm makes me feel a little better...... just a little. I'm a plus sized woman and the idea of wearing it on my stomach or upper buttocks when my bottom clothing would definitely rub against it making it extremely uncomfortable.....not a good thing. I'm about to start my journey!

So terrified of trying new spots... even while using numbing spray. First time I inserted a G5 manual inserter, I physically got ill. I need some bravery pills. Trying new injection sites when I was young freaked me out, too. Nurses didn't inject me. My mom did, because I hated the way they stuck me in the back of the arm. 30+ years of diabetes, and I am still a weenie.

I’m late to this video, but wanted to make sure you got answers. You probably have everything squared away, but if you have any questions I’d be glad to try to help. I was very overwhelmed when it came time to decide whether I wanted a pump. When you get on a pump they stop the long acting insulin. I used to be on the 2 types. The pump gives a small basal dose continuously, so it replaces the need for the long acting. I love my Omnipod. It’s so much more convenient and my A1c is sooo much better with it. I also could never go back to not having my Dexcom G6. I had to for a day and I stayed stressed out the entire day.

i read that application sites should be limited to the abdomen and upper buttocks area. i see you that you have it on your arm, which would be my preferred site. have you had any issues with arm applications? i currently use the 14 day freestyle libre. it works well but sometimes i think it gives false low sugar readings. i used to have the dexcom g5 but i hated the application process. the g6 looks a lot easier.

Great video! I use Libre. Regarding arm placement, I totally agree - one has to be careful taking a T-shirt off. Also, from my experience, door frames are number one spot where I ripped out my sensor. Upper thigh is number one spot for me, really love it! I also like chest but it is not approved.

I am using the G6 and about 6 days into a sensor, it starts to itch. At the 10-day expiration, I remove it and I have an itchy, rash-like red area under the adhesive. Wondering if others experience this and if there are methods to prevent this.

@@reeree1 I just got some "over-patches" for lack of a better term. They are made by EalionMed and fit over the G6 sensor. Bought on Amazon. I believe that mine start to itch when the Dexcom adhesive is exposed to air and also when it gets wet. I will start a new sensor today and will give it a good test.

I just start having rash from the dexcom g6 sensor , is it cause I used only two spots ? And I switch over them every 10 days ( on Arms ) or is it cause showering ? The sticker get wit and dry in the skin and make crazy rash ? ( red skin ) and smell bad too , it just start happening to me the last two sensors I used

Because the more wet the sticker get on the skin .the more bad smelll will leave . And leaving spot on the skin it will happen because of the sweat too so I really don’t know I have 3-4 spots my sensor left on my skin

Hi! The Dexcom G6 sensor you can only apply/use once, but the transmitter that fits into the sensor you reuse with each new sensor for three months. I switch sites with each 10 day sensor wear to give different areas a break, but you can use the general same area if it's comfortable. Hope that helps!

I think so. I found that I would also experience issues with most arm placements. I now use the inner back of my arm for my G6, as that seems to be where most of the fatty tissue is.

Great video. I'm terrible at rotating my sites. I tend to stick to the same comfy spot to wear my pump/libre. Do you ever need extra adhesive or tape? My libre does. But I tend to have long bubble baths which doesn't help. I have serious G6 envy!!

Great review of the devices, application sites and your experience with each. Thank you. I'm a T1d and have been using the Libre. It has not worked for me on the back of the arm as I'm a runner. I've lost 3 during different 100K and 100 mile running races. I now apply the Libre sensors to my chest as I saw another active T1d do on the Tube. That has worked perfectly for me. I have not lost one of those ever, despite doing dozens of 50K or longer races. I just obtained a Dexcom G6 as my insurance no longer covers the Libre and the new Libre 2 does not work with a phone app like the original Libre did? That is a deal breaker. SMH. Looking forward to trying out the G6. Thank you for all that you do! PEACE

I have noticed that the back (underside) of the arm does not work for me as far as Dexcom goes, which is the recommended part of the arm. It is WAY too painful. Same with putting pump sites in that area. The top and sides of the upper arm (where, weirdly, there is much more muscle) is much more reliable for me as far as Dexcom readings and lack of pain for Dexcom goes. (I've just given up on wearing my pump on my arms for now.)

I don't believe a Transmitter and Sensor is not recommended on the inside of one's upper arm. Your G6 Sensor is covered and hidden from your Pump Receiver.
