I recently had PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) laser eye surgery and wanted to vlog my experience. Not having glasses or contacts is amazing! Ever thought of having laser eye surgery to provide freedom as an outdoors(wo)man? To be prepared for a SHTF situation? Stay tuned to learn want I went through for my recovery.

I had same procedure approx 11 yrs ago and will say the best investment Ii have ever made. I healed approx same rate as you. You may have a few weird light rays at night for a few months but that should go away 100% ( at least mine did). Dr had told me many require same procedure later on but I remain na comfortable 20/20. Thanks for charting and sharing your procedure.

Awesome news Dale! Congrats on the success of your surgery. Yes, I still have some light rays visible coming from street lights/headlights at night. I had them before the surgery so we will see if it clears up in time. Good news is that I am used to it and it doesn't bother me. I go this weekend for my official eye test 3 weeks post op. Hopefully I'm at or very close to 20/20

I cannot thank you enough. I was freaking out. You described the exact experience I am going through. I did not do enough research. I was also planning my cornea transplant as I was thinking I had made the biggest mistake of my life. I am on day 7 and your video lifted my spirits. I will be patient and hope I recover just like you.

good for you. i have had poor eyesight my entire life. i have thought about laser surgery but, honestly, you are braver than i am. i am so used to protecting what sight i have left that i dont know that i could do it. you have inspired me enough to look into it again though. it will be different watching your videos without you wearing specs. : ) thanks for the video. i think you are one of the best presenters on youtube. keep it up!!

Thank you so much Todd :) A lot of the laser eye surgery places have free consults where you can go in, get the tests and ask any questions you may have. I waited a while from my consult to the surgery date so that I could do more research and decide if it was something that I wanted to do.

Thanks for sharing your experiences to date. My wife's hesitantly considering the surgery, so hearing how it played out for you gives us more information on how her surgery and recovery might go. I'm gently encouraging her to get it done, because she often talks about how nice it would be to wake up and be able to see the time without having to fumble for her glasses. Thanks and cheers!

You have really explained this well ,I thank you and wish you continuing vision improvement.

+protonhead1 I'm glad you liked the video. It's amazing what they can do with eyes these days. If I get a cataract in the future, due to my PRK surgery, a different technique is used in the lens replacement process.

Mike had this done around 2000. His eyes were so bad, he had to wear coke bottles for glasses, they were so thick and he still couldn't see well. So he did the surgery. His was pretty uneventful, and afterwards, his eyes just felt sandy. He didn't experience the extreme pain, so sorry you went through that. I will never forget the next morning, someone called very early and he grabbed the phone and looked at the alarm clock and he got so excited because he could read the clock with glasses! It was a life changer for him, and now I can see his pretty baby blues all the time. Glad it went well and you have new and improved vision!

Good to know Helga that Mike had it done a while back and things are still OK. Thankfully the worst of my pain was eventually controlled with the drugs and rest. It is funny as I still make motions to put on/take off my glasses. LOL.

This is the most encouraging experience vlog I have come across. Most of the ones I watched were quite different from what i have experienced. Im day 3 of recovery and the first 2 days were nothing but pain. My pain scale from day 0 to day 2 were at a 7-9 with day 1 of recovery being thr worst. I thought i wont make it through lol. They have taken the lenses out of my right eye today since it has fully healed but they changed the lenses on my left. Still needs a couple of days to heal. Your vlog is extremely informative as well. Thanks for this!

I had PRK and it destroyed my vision. It was the worse decision I ever made and it destroyed my life and has destroyed the lives of so many others. I didn’t develop any vision issues until about a year after the surgery. You may be fine now but you can develop vision issues and/or severe eye pain years after the surgery. You are also more prone to all sorts of things like corneal ectasia, detached retinas, early onset cataracts, etc. Even if you don’t develop noticeable symptoms, your eyes are still damaged structurally. The cornea was never meant to be cut open. I wish every single day I could go back and not have it and be able to have perfect vison with glasses and soft contact lenses again. Unfortunately, I can’t go back in time but at least I can warn others about how dangerous these procedures are so maybe they won’t have to suffer like me. You said you don’t need a stick in the eyeball because your eyes are too important yet you paid for someone to slice them open? Please do not promote these horribly dangerous and completey unecessary procedures. All you’re doing is potentially hurting others by encouraging them to go through with it.

I had full Lazik with wavefront done two weeks ago. My eyes were really red but it only lasted for a week. Recovery was fast. Eye drops stink my eyes for the first 3.5hrs and they last for 45mins each time I applied the eye drops. But after 3.5hrs, they went away. I had to apply the 3 types of drops every hour for the 1st day. No scratchy feeling unless my eyes were dry but not bad overall.

I know that this is a pretty old video but...I had my PRK procedure done last Tuesday. And to be honest thenonly thing that freaked me out was the recovery, the pain and how I will handle it. Butbto my surpeise, i only experienced some mild discomfort (for short periods of time, usually during the night) foe the fiest two days. On days 3 and 4 my eyelids were a bit swollen from all the tearing and was a bit light sensitive. But all in all, spent the first week just resting, listening to auidiobooks and keeping my eyes closed. Thanks for sharing thus video and the others as well about this topic. Some of the recocery tips were really helpful. 👍

The development of a central microbial corneal ulcer or haze after a PRK is a potentially serious complication. Two types of haze can occur, first one tends to appear 1-3 months after surgery and then disappear; second is defined as “late-onset corneal haze”, appears after three months and persists for more than three years which is extremely dangerous, which can cause vision regression and loss too. I know a women who did PRK, unfortunately after 20 years a haze occurred in cornea thus vision got loss. Definitely long term everyday complications do have in PRK unlike in LASIK.
