My PROBLEM with the New Fantasmic Finale

I can kind of understand them not wanting to remake the dragon given how it was always very finicky and didn't always work even before it burned down, but at least integrate the dragon into the show in another way or rewrite the finale instead of just having it be the dragon one but with Maleficent instead; that's just lame.

It was closed for work under the stage, writing new choreography, and updating the safety backups/settings to keep performers safe. Also, the dragon is returning next year as it's being built in London. Expect it by the 70th

Fantasmic's yearlong closure had to do with much more than the dragon. Fans saw the dragon fire and wondered what took so long when the dragon didn't even return with the show, but a lot of the damage was what wasn't visible to guests. Much of the infrastructure under the stage was burned too, they had to completely rebuild things like the Kaa snake. The decision to bring back Peter Pan also delayed the show's return, especially when they had to reorchestrate that segment to fit into the current soundtrack. Not trying to be a bootlicker for Disney, I wish it had come back sooner too, but cut them at least a little slack. Plus multiple sources have indicated that the dragon will return, so at the very least this version that "sucks" is temporary.

I appreciate your optimism, but imo the return of Fantasmic was not a priority for them. From what I heard, the new Kaa head is the same one they used in Fantasmic 1.0, so idk if that’s fully true. Plus they didn’t even bring back the flying carpet, so the majority of infrastructure that was damaged is either sitting there abandoned or was completely removed. Very bare minimum effort imo…

Actually that might be right about Kaa, I knew he was one of the casualties with the fire but in that case he wouldn't be new-new. I do agree about the magic carpet, logistically I don't know how easy it would be to build a new one but it was disappointing that it didn't return after all that time. Like I said, I think their decision to bring back Peter Pan was a big reason why Fantasmic's return took more than just a few months. This is speculation but I think they wanted to do some fan service with Peter Pan since they knew the dragon wasn't coming back with the show, but I'm just not sure how long reworking that segment should have realistically taken.

@@JacobHood I think Disney just wants to reduce ties to Johnny Depp. their relationship imploded in 2017 which was the same year the Pirates segment was introduced. I think they were planning on bringing back Pan for a while and this was their big excuse. There is nothing new about the segment so I don’t think it should have taken that long to implement. They had all the music, lighting, choreography, props, & stunts already in place. They already did all the hard work. It shouldn’t have taken that long to reintroduce this scene. It’s the only part of the show without projections on the cabin so it feels out of place imo. And ofc they replaced the physical croc animatronic with the water screen projection -_-

Maybe during that year, they were trying to fix the dragon, and also come up with a replacement scene in case the dragon wouldn't work.

The dragon was always a problem for Disney, but a whole year for a cherry picker really sucks. I kinda wish they remade it with modern technology but just have it breathe smoke

I understand being upset about the dragon. I don't really like this version of Fantasmic either, but not for the same season. I don't like it cause they kept all the Fantasmic 2.0 story issues. My biggest gripe is Mickey being in his sorcerer outfit before the final and also being on top of the cabin before the final. They should have brought back the original 1992 soundtrack. They also removed a lot of the color. But hey at least they brought back Peter Pan and the correct Mickey entrance. Also apparently the reason it took so long is because lots of the show elements were damaged in the put where the dragon used to be, for example the magic carpet, and things like the lifts. But I do agree the new final is lame, even though they didn't have a dragon there was much more they could have done to make it better, even without a dragon.

@@Jakepugh15 yes but he never has it when he appears physically. It's also still dumb that he's talking to the magic mirror and is on top of the cabin. When the evil queen showed up it made sense because she was upset about all the beauty, especially from Snow White, hence why she wanted to stop it. It still kind of works not but they took out the evil queen transformation.

A family member of mine knows someone who is one of the lead creative people on Fantasmic, and I heard about peter pan's return through him before it was announced to the general public. Which I was so over the moon for, I did not care for the pirate's segment at all. But they also were in the creative phase where they were trying to decide what the final scene would be and she said one of their ideas was to have mickey chase the old hag around the stage instead which honestly is freaking hilarious I wish they went with that, anything is better than what they came up with. But it is also really stupid and doesn't really make any sense at all. So what I think they should have done was do a sort of combination of that idea and what they decided on and just have multiple villains come up on the stage and try to attack Mickey and he would have to fight them off. Kind of like what they do for the one in Disney World where they call all of the villains together with a mix of projections but also physical actors. I feel like that would give it more life and something for us to look at and draw suspense instead of just Maleficent in the corner acting like a big car dealer noodle. That being said I hope they bring back the dragon soon, and hope that the rumor of it being built right now and premiering for Disneyland's 70th Anniversary is true.

Fantastic is one of my favorite Disney shows of all time. Sometimes I would camp out for three hours just to watch every time I go to the park. And after waiting a whole year for my all time favorite show… and I don’t feel the same. The finale was disappointing,anti climax, and underwhelming. And I waited a over whole year. OVER A WHOLE YEAR. What the actual hell did Disney do during that time. Nothing. They had the time and money to make a new dragon or better final during that whole year and the fact that they didn’t legitimately blows my mind to me and the fans.

The dragon used to be a cherry picker with a dragon head draped with a black cloth. Used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. Couldn't they bring that back until they build another dragon? When Murphy burnt down I stopped coming to the park. As you said, it's a reflection of how Disney is being run today. With rides breaking all the time I don't fly off on a Matterhorn bobsled.

Many AAs are built at the "Candy Shop" at WDI, but this is taller than the building they use. Same reason the cruise ships are built in germany, instead of Florida
