Here we have a simple male-female parts interaction. As usual, once the female gets the upper hand, the male part will suffer.

Great channel however while standing back from the problem, I have some solutions. Use a short steel round welded to the piece you want to remove, this way the slide hammer or winch can pull from the center of the tube. The current bolt welded to the side ends up tilting the tube you want to remove causing it to lock in. Slide hammers are really damaging to hands and the impacts will tend to tear the weld. ( the offset pull does not help either as the weld is now in peel rather than in tension. ) A crank winch will do wonders as a steady pull on the part does not have to constantly overcome starting friction where as a slide hammer is overcoming starting friction with each hammer. ( Starting friction is higher than running friction ) Tightening the slide hammer tight into the pull bolt preloads the nut weld reducing overall strength leading to a failed weld. A minor amount of heat on the outer would be helpful however if there are any flammable liquids in the tube, that could lead to a bang. The only way collapsing the inner tube works is if it is collapsed past say 50% otherwise the initial collapse just locks the pipes together. Think trying to get a piece of exhaust tubing out of a muffler or an old style domed flat freeze plug where you hammer the dome to lock it into place.

Well ! I always look to you for answers. This way looks the best. This would be the way I would have tried. Maybe use a long stemmed carbide cutter inside the tube to reduce the inside tube pressure on the outside tube ? Anyway you got it !

Although I haven't tried that CRC stuff, there are _much_ better and satisfying lubes out there for the yanking and banging, especially at our age. ...but I have never... ...NEVER ONCE!... considered FOLDING it, ffs! My god man, I can't decide if you are a masochist of a genius, and I'm worried I may have to try this folding advice and really break something permanently...

Don't like banging on frames for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction. I would rig a fine thread puller. Support the main horn in various locations against a direct straight on pull. Turn the nut a bit and let it rest, possible some hot water on the holding tube.

Hahaha I know that situation well.. You have done everything as you normally would, but one tiny issue upstream creates a massive headache for the remainder of the process.. The give away for me was the careless hammer strikes, half expecting to hit your own hand.. Usually when I play that game it's because I'm so mentally frustrated with the job/issue it feels unusual not to have physical pain on board as well... 😄

We front halved an alcohol funnycar where the inside tube was notched welded and ground because the main frame tube was extra thick. It was a similar fun time but not as bad. We made stepped slugs to put it back together. Another one had a weld vent hole drilled internally in the oil vent tubes, that thing leaked oil for weeks even after we cut the front half off. We got lucky and cut out the vent hole and the new front half didn't fill up. I was afraid we would need to stand it on end to get a clean weld at the splice.

1. Would have been a lot more bleeps if I was doing that job. 2. I would have brought out the flame motivator and heated up the pipe some- but not too much, then whacked it some more. Whacking it hot works well. However the tab deal might have put a flaw there. 3. My wrist literally hurts still to this day from a slide hammer working on a wheel bearing race on a 8.8 rear end. Need a cool air hammer -slide hammer type device... hmm 4. With all that jacking and hammering.... is that KZbin friendly? Demonitzed content for TOS issues?🤣

So compromise the integrity of a tube that you cannot replace is that what you want me to do? Steven you obviously do not understand. It definitely is not my first rodeo and I had already ran a die grinder down through it. External welds had penetrated to the tube
@stevenpederson1645
@stevenpederson1645 3 жыл бұрын
@@robwendland No, That's not what I'm saying, this would be a better conversation to have in person. I understand your point about the weld penetration. Finesse of a neuro surgeon or a Millwright would be necessary, a bigger hammer is not always the answer. I don't think that you mentioned the grinder in the video. I do enjoy watching your videos and the knowledge you bring into them, thanks, and keep up the great work.
