My Protracker Workflow (Jungle Music on Protracker)

This is a short video that shortly covers shot details of my short workflow for creating short music on protracker. Let me know if you want me to go more in-depth when creating tunes.

As a classically trained musician and an original Amiga user, I have a deep respect for anyone who can make music on a tracker. I was going to try and learn how to use a tracker, but after watching this video, I give up. Way too alien.

The first time I used one I was overwhelmed, but I found it easy to start by just getting a kick and a snare sample and making a nice little syncopated loop. I would recommend giving it a go!

When you say "original Amiga user", do you mean you owned an Amiga when it was originally released (in the late 80s?) Or that you are a new owner of an original Amiga?

thanks for linking the samples. i'm starting a new jungle project soon after a very long break from anything drum and bass related and its nice to find some samples i havent used before. going at it with renoise, a mpc, and an emu. glad there are folks out here keeping the old traditions alive and chopping up breakbeats.

@@whit3devil yeah im coming from FL learning sunvox/milkytracker and want to buy renoise. I actually really like the tracker workflow, I'm a fan of keyboard focused stuff like Vim so to me it almost feels like the Vim of DAWs. And something just satisfying about using oldschool tech.

17:04 you actually don't have to do it for every note, if you just put the c command on the first note and remove the sample number on every other note, the c command will carry over to the other notes. :)

So is the key for the correct original pitch of the sample is F-3? I really enjoy using protracker but this thing about tuning the sample's pitch really frustates me.

Hey man thanks for making this tutorial. I decided to finally follow along as you do stuff. I've noticed that the jungle-jungle pack samples get cut off early by pro tracker - like they're too big for it or something. Did you do any conversions on the files before you used them in this demo? Is there a setting in protracker to allow for longer samples?

ok I did a little reading and it looks like Protracker doesn't really care about sample length. It only cares about file/sample size. So I followed the instructions on wasp's video found here -> kzbin.info/www/bejne/fnWrd4mgmqeGo80. Using audacity to export iff files at a low sample rate did the trick :D

@@thcdenton You should check out the AmigaPal software by echolevel. I think there's a link to it in the Wasp Amiga sampling video. It's a drag-and-drop program for converting wav's into the 8svx format. Super simple to use and you can convert in batches. There might still be a limit to max sample length but I've never run into problems using two or four bar breakbeats.

Soulox Hey I got the pack but something ain’t right. Every time I’m inserting a sample into protracker or milkytracker I get a message saying that the file hasn’t been found and the format of it is not supported. So every time I need to use audacity to reformat the audio and I don’t wanna keep doing that for my samples I’ve download. Is there a way I can fix that problem?
